“Good for young families”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed here early may 2014 with two small children under 5. This was our second stay here however the reception staff upon arrival were not aware we had been in 2013 which I found odd. We stayed in a suite which are a great size for a small family. Overall we find the facilities to be excellent - pools are brilliant as are the water slides, beautiful foyer, gym and a great kids club. Happy hour (2 for 1 drinks) at pool bar from 11am til 5pm (from memory). Breakfast is lovely with good variety and quality. Not far to the beach, which is clean and inviting, with a good choice of restaurants. Bibi bar (a new beach club) is very nice. The only issues we have with this resort is that the food at the resort is very expensive by thailand standards. Eg 800 baht for a burger. I'd suggest to head to the restaurants by the beach for dinner, which we did every night. Also, the staff often seem disinterested. The guy at the pool bar (when its manned) seems absolutely bored and the staff at the kids club generally stay at the desk or office and have very little interaction with the kids and all the kids activities come at an additional cost. We stayed all he time with the kids in he kids club which has quire a few things for kids to play with and the kids loved the ball pit. The place has no atmosphere but if you want a quiet time in a great environment then I'd recommend this hotel. The food prices on site are excessive (for thailand) but plenty of nearby options. TIP head back towards town (left out of hotel then left again at junction) and after about a 300m walk (from hotel) you will find a few options for laundry (50 baht/kg). Laundry at hotel very expensive (about 10 times that price).

Needs a makeover. Paint peeling in many places, furniture feels and looks old and worn, ac struggled in the daytime to keep the room cool. Pool was about a consistent 3ft deep. Great for kids, but not much else. Pool has 2 watersides, but there is so little water to push you along, and it is not steep enough that you have to pull yourself down. Breakfast buffet was good. Tried several dishes off the lounge menu, and I would recommend the fajita wraps. Beach was about 500 feet away, through a muddy field with high grass, then through a restaurant/shopping street. But the beach was great. Just be careful of the huge boulders out there. They could really mess you up if you are body surfing. But the beach was among the cleanest I have visited in Asia. Not many dining options in the area. A microwave in the room would have helped. Long way to main area...Patong...which can be good or bad, depending on what you want to do. Very quiet.

Room Tip: It was nice being on the first floor and being able to walk right out to the pool.

Dear Thom1962,

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review of the Resort after your recent stay with us.

I was pleased to see that you enjoyed our breakfast and the beauty of Surin beach and the surrounding area. However, I was sorry to read that our guestroom was below your expectation. This is very important for us to maintain the room in a good condition, this issue will be shared with the maintenance team and we will work closely on this.

Thanks again for your feedback and we are looking forward to welcome you and your family back in the future.

Best Regards,
Thitirat T.

Staff were friendly. Rooms are clean and modern. Breakfast selection was good. There is a pool-side bar if you're feeling too lazy to walk 5 minutes to the beach and a water slide to keep the kids happy. Would definitely go back.

I went to Phuket for an outing with friends and booked into the DoubleTree. Being a father myself I could see the value for families: Great Pool(s), great slides and a complete kids world area.
Having been an individual this time, still the kids didn't disturb my stay and it's always nice to hear their voices when the slide into the waters. However, I got out early to the pool one morning and was alone by myself and happily noticed the peace and quiet of the resort at that time.
Rooms are functional and clean, shower has a good dollop of water coming out and the aircon is working flawlessly. Staff shows the typical Thai friendliness.Location-wise it is off the beaten track, while still offering the amenities of Surin Beach and also close to the major tourist locations on the island.
Next time will stay there with my kids and wife, for sure.

Room Tip: Pool access rooms do not cost very much more but it's nice to just walk out into the water.

I had points to redeem plus paid for an additional night. The frontdesk offered us a upgrade with a cost which includes the breakfast for family. Felt it was a good deal and took it. To start with the hotel is about 7-8 mins walk from the Beach. You have to cross the road and walk to the Surin beach (btw, the Surin beach is fantastic).

The hotel seems to be rebranded recently and you dont feel the same doubletree standard that you will come across. The room needs renovation and its mostly all the stuff you see from 10 yr old hotels, but rooms was spotless and we were welcomed with a fruits. We had an Separate living area with sofa bed (good for kids) and a nice balcony overseeing the pool.

The resort is mostly very quiet mostly due to the low season.

We stayed in Building 2 which is 3-5 mins walk to lobby. The staff was OK, the breakfast is average. The best part is they have a very small store inside which is priced at Familymart. i.e Water, Soda, Beer Etc. They also have a small coffee shop inside which is priced very well. We infact had most of our dinner in there. You have a salads, sandwich, smoothies etc. We also ordered some food for dinner and it was priced good and service was also good. We used their SPA and it was nice (though bit pricey).

In overall, if you are looking for a quiet family type resort / hotel away from all the touristy attractions at a competitive cost this will be it.

Room Tip: Rooms in new building is much better

Didn't have high expectations, knowing that DoubleTree is the lower-end sister of Hilton but was pleasantly surprised. Served a delicious welcome drink and signature DoubleTree cookie at check-in, then escorted to our suite (which though small, is very nice). Loved the Crabtree & Evelyn amenities (a definite surprise, since even high-end chain hotels I've stayed at use generic ones). Service was very nice, perhaps because we were living in a suite but you could feel the smiles were genuine; staff even went the extra mile for our late departure at check-out.

Breakfast was nice, with freshly-made fruit (orange, etc.) and vegetable (carrot, etc.) juice. though it got a bit messy when we arrived near closing time.

Really nice hotel, a bit far from the beach and had to cross a muddy field to get there in about 8 mins or walk the long way (15 mins). Rooms spotless, good drinks. Didn't eat there as when we got to the beach there were quite a few places that offered the same stuff much much cheaper and they tasted great.

The staff however weren't very good, had to constantly go looking for them to get served and we couldn't use the pool table 2 times out of 3 as they were using it!!! Bit bizarre.

Set up for family's so expect to be disturbed (for want of a better word) by kids in the pool, didn't bother us but you've been warned if your planning on making them rather than playing with them stay elsewhere. Maybe they could set up an area just for adults?

Room Tip: Ground floor facing the pool allow direct entry
