Guests are welcomed upon arrival with a drink, moist cleaning towels and a bracelet made of exotic local flowers. Check in was a pain free process that went smoothly. Hostess explained the hotel’s amenities, gave written information on the resort and a map of the premises. Guests are warmly welcomed and thanked for their decision to stay at the Dusit. I was pleasantly surprised by the Dusit offering a free upgrade to a deluxe Club Suite.
My observations on the hotel and amenities offered at the Dusit during my stay are detailed below.
The Dusit Club Suite has a spacious separate bedroom.
Air conditioning has two separate zones for living room and bedroom. The A.C. system was easy to operate and worked excellent, an essential service in a very hot and humid environment. A.C. operates off a small, well designed and easy to use keypad that also controls room lighting.
Room has a small fridge with complementary soft drinks. Packages of instant coffee along with a coffee pot are provided in a small bar area. Room is well stocked with bottled drinking water and replenished as necessary.
Food in restaurants generally excellent quality with outstanding service. No reservations required at resort restaurants and I never encountered delays in being seated or served.
Bathroom is spacious with both a bath and shower. Suite was in good order, well cleaned and maintained with everything functioning properly.
Staff is excellent with outstanding attitudes and strive to please. Servers at restaurants anticipate your needs by remembering what you ordered the previous day. The Dusit is an example of the world class customer service that Thailand is famous for. First time travelers to Thailand that I have spoken to are continuously awed by the attitude of resort staff and the exceptional level of service extended to them.
Response time for room service is outstanding, usually only 5 to 10 minutes.
Currency exchange available at cashier’s office at main lobby. Hotel cars can be reserved in advance for you travel needs. Sightseeing tours can be arranged through the Dusit in the reception area.
Dusit is a family friendly resort, safe and fun for children. There is a “kid’s Club” that offers a range of activities for children. From my observations, about 85% of the guests were European with a sprinkling of Americans and Asians. Dusit attracts a higher end clientele who are relatively sedate, making the resort an enjoyable, quiet and relaxing experience. There is usually nightly entertainment by a local band and live music performed by a soloist during the day in the main lobby.
Maids are outstanding and did a thorough job of cleaning room and passed the “pill test”. I dropped a small pill on the floor under a desk table which was barely noticeable – the pill was gone after room service was done, indicating that a thorough cleaning/vacuuming job was performed. In other highly rated resorts, I have watched in amusement as the fully visible pill I placed on the floor remained there for the duration of my stay!
I jokingly told my wife that, despite attempting something to complain about, I was unable to come up with anything. Two small matters, however, merit attention by the Dusit. The bathroom in the pool area had unpleasant odors and the table mats at the poolside bar were moldy and need to be replaced. In general, however, the resort was meticulously maintained and exceptionally clean.
Internet service was excellent and WIFI available throughout the entire resort. A problem plaguing many travelers is the attitude by hotels that internet access is some exotic type of service that requires premium pricing and high daily fees, when in fact internet service should be viewed as a basic service, the same as water, air conditioning, etc. To its credit the Dusit provides high quality internet service without gouging guests with “internet fees”, a policy that all hotels should adopt.
The Dusik is located seaside on the famous powdery beach of Bang Tao. The water was crystal clear and the beaches free of debris.
The trip from the airport costs around $20USD and takes only about 20 minutes. A round trip taxi ride to Patong Beach (a favorite tourist destination) cost BHT 1,400 or about $47 USD. The Dusit can arrange for taxi, hotel cars or limousine service as required.
Dusit International is a good corporate citizen involved in the local community. The “Dusit Smiles for Operation Smile Thailand” is a company initiated campaign under which the Dusit has given free operations to 85 underprivileged children with facial deformities during 2011, the year of His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 85th birthday. The Dusit Smiles campaign has raised THB 3.3 million ($110,000 USD) in donations since 2010, giving a new life to some of Thailand’s special children. It is gratifying to stay at a hotel that has a broader mission beyond providing luxury accommodations to it guests by improving the quality of life for underprivileged children.

Excellent hotel; excellent service; lovely location; wonderful staff. Very, very helpful. Only negative was that none of the hotels offer Skype in their business centres (and Skype would not work on our little netbook). Breakfast (included in our deal) was excellent - filter coffee not brilliant but they make an excellent capuchino to order (about 4 each morning actually!). Other meals very good but better value - turn right along the beach to the "Green Leaf" - excellent fresh seafood at good price. The Village just by Dusit Thani is expanding and has some good and useful shops, even a small supermarket now and 2 Jim Thompson's (including the cheaper Factory outlet); the cafe is also good. Hire a motorbike (with crash helmets please!) and venture out the main gate - there is an excellent supermarket and other shops. Do pop into the large antiques place on the left - has some great items and they will negotiate. In the town there is a Tesco Lotus store (turn right at the police station lights). If your turn left at the lights and keep going about 10-15 minutes there is a fabulous antiques store on the right - in Feb. we bought some gilded Thai hands (lovely) - negotiate! In Feb. took our bike up the road to some waterfalls - very pleasant little excursion - probably a lot more water in November / December after the rainy season. We did have some tremendous downpours in November but by December it seemed a lot more settled.
We were tempted by the offer of free tickets to Shows; or massage; or shopping vouchers up to the value of about £100 by going on a Laguna Resorts timeshare presentation. They say about 90 minutes but it lasted about 3 hours. Not hard sell - very interesting tour round with Mr Egor (lovely man from Estonia) and a good presentation. We were almost tempted to join but resited the temptation (they are very professional and above-board) - we choose 2 Spa sessions worth £50 each at the Allamanda Best Western in the complex - 90 minutes of pure heaven, free of charge. So yes - go for it!

If you are choosing between Karon / Kata Beach OR Laguna we would say LAGUNA wins easy!

Room Tip: In February we had ground floor Lagoon View (very damp room - humidity / lagoon / A.C./ ground floor...

Sawadee krup and greetings from Phuket. Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay in both February and December 2012.

Your Phuket tips are great for future travelers - even so much as to detail the travel direction and distance for future guests who venture outside Laguna. I have passed on your compliment to Mr. Egor.

Thank you again for being our guest. Wishing you all the best for a happy festive season and hope to see you in Laguna again one day.

My family stayed in Dusit Thani Laguna for 3 nights. It is located within the sprawling Laguna Resort. To save some money from the airport to the hotel, exit from the airport building and turn right to look for the "Taxi Meter" sign. You can take a metered taxi to the hotel for 400 THB. The taxi services within the arrival hall charge as much as 100 THB.

Check-in was pleasant with welcome drinks and cold towels. Porters were efficient and friendly.

Pros:
1. Good service staff
2. Complimentary shuttle buses that will take you to other hotels and to Angsana spa within the Laguna resort area. However, they would not take you to the main entrance.
3.Free toys and swimming boards available at the pool for the kids
4.The beach was clean but the waves were often too strong for us to swim

Cons:
1. Pool area was small given that there were so many rooms and guests. The pool was also not well maintained as there were chipped tiles. My 6 year-old son cut his toe while swimming.
2. Restaurants within the hotel were expensive. Breakfast selection was fair at best.
3.My daughter and son went for the batik painting class and it was a total letdown. The shirts provided for painting were stained and dirty and choices were limited.
4. Our rooms were fine but the bathroom doors were spoilt and could not be locked and even our front door could not close properly.

Overall a nice resort to stay in but maintenance of the place is a problem that the management should look at.

Room Tip: Choose an ocean-facing room

From arrival to departure four days later, the entire staff at the Dusit Thani extended warm hospitality and great service. The setting is gorgeous, right on Bang Tao Beach, with most seaview rooms a short stroll away. The property is well maintained. While it's not the newest or most modern resort (it just celebrated its 25th anniversary), the charm of an older property is appealing. The bathroom is modern, the air conditioning worked great, the wi-fi service was reliable although not fast, and the facility was spotless. The view of the Andaman Sea was spectacular. The goal is to keep guests inside the Laguna compound, and that's not a bad thing if you want tranquility, a scenic oasis, and great food. But all of Phuket awaits outside the front gate for a taste of local cuisine, local culture and entertainment, and sightseeing. I join others in being just a bit critical of the breakfast buffet. The same food each day (with no alternatives available) can get tiring. Plus it was pedestrian fare. Dinners at Laguna Cafe, Casuarina Beach Restaurant, and at Ruen Thai were excellent.

This is my 6th trip into Phuket since 2003 and - after having stayed at Laguna Beach Resort(2003), Novotel(north of Patong beach), Amari Coral Beach Resort, Baumanburi, Sukkho - I consider my stay here at the Dusit Thani Laguna Villa(lagoon view) the most peaceful and relaxed.

The service and attention are excellent and we were pleasantly surprised on one of the nights when a wedding party celebrated their auspicious day with a fireworks display.

I still have a few more days of holidaying left in this villa with my family of five, but I am relating my experience in advance because, instead of/or if you are booking two rooms for my/your family, I/you only had to spend a little bit more to experience a lot more by staying here. It is my first time staying in a villa, therefore I'm unable to compare with other villa stays.

Side note: The baby elephant and its mahout just strolled by my balcony this morning along the deserted service road just behind my villa. It was a magical moment, only three living things(me, mahout, elephant), without anyone else around. Happy Holidaying!

p.s. I enjoyed the blue cheese at breakfast, but it would have been better if they have crackers to go with it.

Our first ever visit to Thailand, and as a matter of fact, it was our third hotel, due to problems with our travel agent TravelBag (first hotel shut down, second choice hotel never confirmed) and so ended up in the Dusit Thani with a Club Room (#108) probably the best club room in the hotel right on the beach and on a corner).

One regret: why did we never come any earlier to Thailand? The DT is a perfect hotel the staff are unbelievable, Aorawan in the Horizon Bar stood out but also reception, guest relation and housekeeping staff were all excellent.

The hotel has a nice mix of guests when we were there: European (Germans, Brits, Scandic), but also Taiwanese/Malay and other asian nationalities giving at a good mix, rather than just an overload of single nationalities.

Our room was fantastic, right on the beach and close to Trattoria, where for club room users exlcusive b'fast and afternoon tea was served. We only had once b'fast in the main restaurant, but preferred Trattoria due to proximity to our room, and more private atmosphere (pls note the food choice is still excellent in Trattoria, although a bit less extensive than in the main restaurant)

The club rooms benefit also from free wifi (decent speed, I got 4-10Mb download) and beats what I have at home in the UK, free softdrinks from the minibar and daily free cocktails/drinks in the Horizon bar from 6-7pm. These are nice benefits for a Club Room, as drinks & F&B are otherwise quite expensive in the hotel (Western prices) and you have to add 10 + 7% taxes on top and this does add up over 2 weeks....

The only real improvement is for me the need for the hotel to install some showers on the beach so that you can rinse of the salt/sand. At present they have some water buckets but in this day and age, some showers are maybe over due. During a drinks reception the GM Mr Komposch said that further improvements are being planned now that the hotel is 100% part of Dusit group and not affiliated to the Laguna resort, so hopefully on our next visit we can see these showers being installed?

A massage service is provided on the beach too (not part of the hotel) and for 1hr/500Bht you get a fantastic massage on the beach. Nearby drinks huts are available too to order your refreshments at a fraction of the costs of the hotel/pool bar prices

We actually never had evening dinners in the hotel and we chose to each either on the beach in the private (not linked to the hotel/resort) restaurant. Tom Yum Googn (south/turn left at the beach) as well as Tony's and SOM (north/turn right on the beach) all of these are within a 15 min leisurely walk on the beach (and also provide if you want a free pick up/drop off service to your hotel, should you not wish to walk). Typical price pp for a dinner on the beach (drinks/starter/main) is about 600Baht (£12) for excellent seafood/Thai dinner, where as dinner in the hotel would really only be available from 1200Baht upwards + drinks + tax

Further more the nearby village of Cherngthalay offers plenty of restaurants, again many of these offer free pick up service from the hotel

We had dinner in
DeDos (best dinner of the holidays) - Fine dining
Tatonka (a close second)
Black Cat (casual)

all were good /excellent value for money.

We will definately be back to the Dusit Thani & Thailand.

We stayed 4 nights in a dusit club room. The reception area and looby is really beautiful and service is "pro". Room was great, clean with private balcony and private sunbeds. The pool is located in the middle of palmtrees, etc..and next to the beach. The place was quiet , not too big and the service is great all day long. You have one hour each evening of free cocktails on a nice terrasse overlooking the pool. The thai restaurant is great. You have free shuttle on demand to any location in the laguna complex ( 5-6 hotels) and thus access to many other facilities ( golf, restaurant, shopping,...)Please visit the Saffron Thai restaurant at Banyan Tree ....magic....
The only negative comment...the transfer cost to/from airport...at 1900 bahts per trip....The shuttle to Patong costs only 600 bahts. The place is well designed for couple that would like to enjoy a luxury place with a great service. It would be less of a place for families with children...
