Sawatdee Ka.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Dusit and I wanted to post about this true gem of a hotel.

I had booked the hotel car to come and collect us from the airport which turned out to be a great decision. Immediately on arrival at the Dusit hospitality the lovely lady brought us cool drinks and cold lemongrass scented hand towels. We were then escorted to an air conditioned car and the driver sorted our cases. There was fresh water and more refreshing cold towels in the car.

Upon arrival our cases were whisked away and we were escorted to reception where the staff took our passports and we were provided with another cold drink, more cold towels and a pretty bracelet made of fresh flowers. She went through all of the check in details with us whilst we were seated on comfy sofa and finished our drinks.

We were then escorted to our room and shown how to use the TV and the lights etc.

We stayed in a Deluxe Lagoon View room which had a beautiful view of the calm peaceful lagoon. The rooms are fabulous, spacious and plush with the maids doing a top notch job and also providing us with fresh flowers everyday and different Thai fruits to try. They also provide you with Lemongrass shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and lotion which smells amazing and prompted a trip to Lemongrass House so we could take the lovely smell home with us. They also provide you with fresh drinking water everyday and top up the tea/coffee. We did tip our maid everyday as she was lovely and did a great job.

The staff all through the hotel are lovely, very courteous and they have a very gentle sweet way about them. They do their utmost to make your stay a great experience and nothing is too much trouble for them.

The pool is lovely and just a stones throw away from the beach. You can get towels from a little hut near the pool.

Wifi is available throughout the hotel but can be difficult to get in the Laguna Café.

Breakfast for us was included and was very good, lots of fresh fruit, cereal, continental style things as well as bacon, sausages, eggs and an omelette station with a member of staff cooking fresh omelettes to your specification. You can either sit inside or outside and staff will seat you and bring you tea or coffee whichever you require.

I have read some people complaining regarding the cost of eating and drinking within the resort but both me and my husband seemed to eat and drink relatively well for not too much money. For example in the Laguna Café my husband had a Thai dish, I had an English dish we both had a drink and dessert and the price was 2,200baht granted away from the hotel the same thing was probably about 1700baht but you are in a high end resort so what do you expect. The food is delicious and the portions are good and the lovely staff and treatment make the little extra seem very worth it. You can either pay your bill to the staff or sign and they will add it to your room bill.

This is a luxury resort with relaxation in mind, the hotel grounds, the lagoon, the beach all promotes a calm relaxing atmosphere. The hotel offers a host of things to do and they have a member of staff where you can book trips and tours. We took the hotel bus to Phuket Town in the week and then read about Phuket Town night markets. As the bus has a designated drop off and pick up area we decided on a taxi. The night markets are a true experience and are on Saturday and Sunday starting at 4pm. We got there for about 4.30pm and spent until 7pm wondering, eating, drinking and shopping. It started to fill up quite a lot as we were leaving so I would say it is better to go earlier and avoid the crowds. It is very HOT so wear something cool. You can buy drinks all over and there are even a few selling bottles of beer from ice buckets. Also wear comfy shoes as it is BIG!

Just outside of the hotel to the left is a small shopping resort called Canal Village, you can change money there for a good rate but be warned they will want ID such as a passport. You can get to this by walking a little way out of the hotel or getting a boat round the lagoon from the jetty, the boat takes longer but it is nice to take a trip across the lagoon, there is also a shuttle bus that travels up and down the resort throughout the day. We preferred the walk though.

If you walk further up and out of the whole laguna complex there are some restaurants and shops, a pharmacy and a supermarket type place.

Chaba restaurant is very good, I asked for BBQ Seabass which was described in the menu as 100g/100bhat so I thought they would weigh it then tell me the cost. Nope they brought a live seabass in a bucket asking me if this was ok! It was then whisked off and prepared. I felt a bit mean bit at least I know it was fresh and it was delicious!

The Black Cat restaurant is a bit further out but is very good and very cheap and they will send their car for you and drop you back if required.

Just a further mention, I am a typical fussy brit when it comes to food and was a tad apprehensive about going to Thailand and what I would eat but I ate very well and they catered for my tastes perfectly.

Upon leaving our flight was not due out until 8.30pm that night and obviously you have to check out at 12.00. I asked if it was possible to keep the room on for the extra few hours. Not only was this organised promptly they also did not charge me any extra for this.

All in all I would recommend this lovely hotel and we hope to be visiting again in the future.

Thank you for an amazing, magical time.

Have just returned from a two week stay at the Dusit and can't praise the staff/hotel and accommodation highly enough.... Having read some od the other reviews criticising I am rather amazed at how "picky" some people can be. Moaning about the sand being gritty/ slow wifi and the staff not being able to speak English... Surprise surprise you were in Thailand and not everyone there does speak English oddly enough.... Also read one review from someone moaning about the floor of the bathroom being slippy and needed a non slip mat coz his kids had fallen over?!?...Maybe either put down the specific floor mat/towel which was provided would cure the problem or suggest telling your kids not to run around on wet tiled floors.... just a suggestion...and if you got ants eating the crap that your kids left on the floor... Simple solution - pick your own crap up and put it in the bin....And too many acorns on the grass outside so you can't walk barefoot?!?..Reviewer FNA1976.... Are you taking the piss you idiot?!?!?

But to put the record straight we booked our hols through Trailfinders and they organised everything fantasically well and flights/transfers/ pick up from airport etc all spot on.
When we arrived at the hotel tired after a long day travelling we were immediately offered a complimentary drink and welcoming refreshing cold towels...

Staff carried our luggage to our room and refused any tip.... Room - 2nd floor lagoon view suite was at the far (quieter) end of the hotel and was spacious/ clean/ nice balcony/ spot on airconditioning and comfy king sized bed and with in room safe to store valuables but at no time on our trip did we ever feel remotely worried about our security.

We had opted for breakfast only package which was buffet style but the choice of food was great... Either the usual slightly boring full English was offerd but local grown fruits/ continental style brekky/ sushi/ aswell as Thai style food also available ... so spoilt for choice really and all very fresh and tasty. Plenty of fresh fruit in the room and tea/coffee and bottled water every day... if you run out just grab someone and they will soon fetch you whatever you need.
Pool area clean and tidy, and regularly cleaned, plenty of sunbeds even with a 120 strong Herbalife Christmas!!! Party from Korea....
Must admit Karaoke, people wearing Santa outfits and snow machines on the beach and doing Gangnam style dancing in June were a bit leftfield but very enjoyable to watch if not partake in.

Little cafe by the pool offered snacks etc but we did sample the Hotel's own on site Thai Restaurant Ruen Thai overlooking the lagoon and the Italian aswell.... but we actually preferred to go off out exploring and found a number of fantastic other local Restaurants....
Would throroughly recommend the Albatross on canal village (local thai) fantastic food and setting and good value, Flame in Laguna Water village - choice of Thai, sushi (delightful) and some of the freshest tastiest pizzas I have ever had anywhere in the World, Chaba restaurant very good and one a bit further afield called The Corner Restauraunt which is opposite Boat Lane owned and run by a German chap called Jens we had some fabulous food there and his thurs night and sunday night buffets including wine were terrific value.
Only rather poor Restaurant we found the whole time there was a supposedly Indian Curry House at Laguna Water Village which was 1) Not authentic and food average at best and 2) Let down by its rude and obnoxious clientelle - but we may have just picked a bad night I guess.
Other recommendations... Rather than pay throught the nose for taxis £40-£50 round trip into Phuket Old Town we jumped on the 'bus and cost us the equivalent of 80pence there and back....bargain!
Oddly enough the Bus driver didn't speak English as he was a Thai but loads of passengers on the bus who did and only too willing to help or assist..... and anyone with half a brain who can read a map should be able to find their way around Phuket easily enough...
Blue Elephant and the Natural Restaurants there again brilliant..and plenty of temples, old historic buildings, markets etc and other things to explore..
Last but back was 6.00 though so if anyone wanted to stay out late then best to grab a taxi but
agree on a price BEFORE you set off on your trip as the taxi drivers WILL try and rip you off!.... You been warned! Although new Govt trying to stamp this out.

Other things of note/ use for anyone thinking of using this hotel... the 7.00 Happy Hour at the bar is a great way of sampling the cocktails or whatever without costing a fortune - didn't quite manage to sample every single cocktail on offer but made a bloody good dent in it!

And a useful hotel shuttle bus and water taxi also takes you around if you don't fancy walking.

The staff at the hotel were all fabulously friendly and polite and contrary to other whining Reviewers most of them DID speak excellent English and nothing was too much trouble for them...

Our one and only issue we found slightly odd was that the hotel itself did not exchange
US DOLLAR travellers cheques... there is a bank approx 10 mins walk away from the hotel but limited opening hours... Hotel happy enough to change English money and exchange rates about the same as in the UK...

Most of local shops accepted credit cards anyway so we never had a problem but useful to keep a few quid in your pocket in case you are out and about and fancy a beer or whatever.

There are also some dangerous rip tides in the sea but unless you are an idiot and ignore the red flags which display when the tides are a problem it shouldn't cause any difficulty. And a few things around that might just want to bite/ sting you.... we saw real live Caiman Crocodile outside our room by the lagoon on the shore happily wandering along.... Unfortunately I couldn't persuade " Her Indoors " to go and stick her head in its jaws to see if it would bite!

And if you hire a car/ moped?!?!?.... Make sure your Life Assurance is all up to date - they are all totally bonkers drivers and most of them uninsured/ no lights/ jump red lights/ drive wrong way on main roads and the motorways! and drunk!!!!.... This from an ex Bike Road racer. And I wasn't brave (stupid?) enough to drive there.

Only other useful tip I can think about is if possible make sure you get all your papers and immigration cards stamped at Phuket airport on your way back rather than leave it to do it at Bangkok as we managed to walk entirely through Bangkok airport without being stopped/checked or inspected once on our transfer to catch our flight back to Heathrow and the Boarding people were rather shocked that no.body had inspected our passports or stamped them....... 800 metre plus walk back to Passport control didn't do much for my sense of humour but that probably our only grizzle.
Would I recommend this hotel.... YES unreservedly..... although you can save yourself a fortune by buying your beers from the local supermarket for 60/65 baht (about a quid) rather than 250 (approx£5) at the hotel!.. stick them in the fridge at night time and you're good to go the next day if you fancy a cold one.
On site Spa rather expensive aswell for what it offered but walk 5 minutes up the road and you can find dozens offering similar.
On site watersports/ windsurfing and Hobie Cats well maintained and safe and Instructors good and followed good procedures - and got a rescue boat in case you get into trouble as next stop is the Philippines I think!!!

Would I recommend Thailand ... Yes unreservedly... cleaner and tidier than most places in the UK, loads to see and do and the people are so friendly and polite.Virtually impossible NOT to eat like a King (or Queen!).
Would I recommend Trailfinders as a Tour Company.. Definitely yes and a big thank you to Hannah there who helped us no end.
But it is a long long flight back so make sure you get a decent seat and be prepared to be a bit spazzed with jst lag for a day or two when you get home.
Anyways I hope that helps anyone thinking of visiting and take the Moaning Minny reveiewers on here with a pinch of salt... We had a GREAT time.

Room Tip: Lagoon view rooms actually probably better and quieter than sea view rooms as there were so many tre...

Stayed at Dusit Thani for 3 nights and 4 days in the Club Room. When we first arrived Phuket Airport, we took a taxi to Dusit Thani Laguna for 700 Baht from the taxi services in the arrival gates. The taxi ride was around 30 minutes. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted with refreshing drinks and very friendly staff, Annie, who briefly introduced the resort and where to have our breakfast, restaurants, facilities and etc. We were escorted to our room. It was very clean and tidy, we received complimentary fruit basket and red wine along with other things.

WE ate dinner at Ruen Thai, a restaurant inside the resort. We paid a total of 1200 Baht for 2 people for 3 dishes. The quality of the food was good but in small portions. The next morning we had our buffet breakfast. Food was very very limited and not a very wide range of choices but the service was superb and comfortable.

The resort was easy to navigate and walk around. In the afternoon we had free daily tea which included a drink and sandwiches and scones. We then walked to the Canal Village where there were suvenior shops, minimart, and a medical clinic and a restuarant there which was not very expensive. The Canal village was just a few minutes walk from the resort. Because June is the rainy season, there weren't a lot of people and there was definitely very very little people at the Canal Village. Around evening time, we had our pre dinner drinks it was really relaxing in the horizon lounge and people were always polite and friendly. The manager would come out and talk to all of us and make sure everything was good. During dinner time we ordered room service. The price is around the same as eating at Ruen Thai in our first night and food was good.

If you want to do more things outside the resort you can contact the laguna tour staff that sits outside the reception. There are many things to do outside the resort such as elephant riding (500 BAHT FOR 15 MINS), or horse riding along the beach (1000 baht for an hour), and many other water acitivities. We also kayaked in the laguna (free). Overall I had an amazing time at dusit thani and would definitely come back again. The service and the facilities were great and the room was comfortable and clean.

Room Tip: the club room is more expensive but it is definitely worth the price as they give you many privilege...

We went with the package of 4 days at Dusit's Club Room. Complimentary drinks, snacks and an amazing welcoming experience as we arrived. Followed by a series of free tea & drinks everyday. Friendly and caring staff enhanced the experience. Plentiful of activities around the resort and an amazing beach front just footsteps away from the room's backdoor was a bonus ! Breakfast was great but could've been better with more variety and selection. As always, left unwillingly but happily as the fantastic experience made us plan our next trip back. Amazing value for the great service and overall quality.

Staying in a 2 bed beach front villa. A beautiful villa with a small rooftop pool, a small kitchen, large dining area and lounge with a small patio overlooking the beach. The two bedrooms are on the basement floor with the master walking out into the beach.

I'm having a few problems with language, only a few people are fluent in English so asking for sole simple things are a bit pro longed but we're getting by okay. Staff are very very polite and nice. In room menu is limited - vegetarian- ordered my son a noodle and veg soup but it's cooked in chicken stock - would have been better if menu was clearer on what the food is.

I'm not happy with the state of cleanliness.headboards in second room where kids are are full of dust, all the outside areas were strewn with bits from the surrounding trees. I know it's unavoidable but should be swept clean never the less. There are also ants creeping in and invading anything remotely edible left on the floor by the kids including crumbs. They're coming from a hole in the wall which should have been spotted in a routine inspection and fixed. So far in our 4 hours here the power has gone out twice for around 10 mins a time- comes on with a bang and makes door bell go off waking up the kids. The shower floor is extremely slippery - poor toddler has scarily slipped twice in it and banged his head twice- would really benefit from a non slip mat.

Other then these small minor issues which can be easily addressed I'd happily stay here again.

The beach isn't fine white sand- bit gritty but it's still nice. Lots of acorns on the grass outside so can't walk barefoot on it- again needs a good sweep but it's a windy day too.

Looking forward to my next few days here.

Got a nice suite on the 3rd floor sea view. The hotel is nice, the spa was good although overpriced as a much better quality treatment can be have in Bangkok for the same price. The wifi is ridiculously slow and the bed is too small. Not what you expect from Dusit Thani. disapointing
