The neighbour hotel Banyan Tree was occupied so I "had to" stay at the Dusit Thani for a couple of days until my Banyan villa was ready. On top of that, I arrived extremely early in the morning at the Dusit hotel. Fortunately I got a great last-minute price for the room.

What a pleasant surprise! Friendly reception staff let me stay in a sea view room for free from 5am, until my Dusit room was available. Limo driver (1800 Baht) was at the airport on time even though I arrived half an hour early.

Everyone recognized me after a couple of days and tried to pronounce my Scandinavian last name correctly. Everyone was treating me politely and correctly making me feel at home and safe.

The fitness gym was small but efficient. The room service was QUICK, precise and friendly. Little surprises every day that I hadn't expected: Chocolates (not just the ones on the pillow) on the first day. A free bottle of red wine on the second day. Fresh fruit every day and daily refills of bath salt and other amenities (of course).

I stayed in a quiet and calm lagoon view room, the perfect size for 1 person and a wonderfuld view over the lagoon and the little shuttle boat that arrives every 20 minutes. I had my own private garden for meditation and relaxation.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who comes here for peace and quiet and a personal touch - even in the peak season. And I will definitely be back.

One of the best hotels for relaxation. Just sit and watch the beautiful scenery and architecture. Great place to stay, great service, great pool, wonderful breakfast, and especially the warm welcome will always be kept in mind. The best part was the upgrade that offered a wonderful view to the sea! Loved it so much that it was hard to leave.... The only major downside is the distance to patong beach that was not our intention. So for anybody who wants to be part of the nightlife in Phuket, this area would not be their choice! Hoping to stay there one more time!

myself and daughter spent 7 nights over xmas at the dusit in phuket. We were picked up from the airport and taken to our hotel early morning. We arrived at the hotel and greeted with drinks, flowers, very easy check in and were taken to our room. I booked a deluxe laguna room, which was on the ground floor. Wow, the room had the most wonderful outlook of the laguna and shaded with the beautiful flowers and trees. Huge beds which after two days travelling felt like a dream, huge plasma and fresh fruit daily. Pool area was very safe for children and large amount of sun loungers available, the beach was a stone throw away from the pool. One negative the beach was a little rough and the current was very strong, especially for kids, just check the flags before entering the sea. Breakfast, fab, anything you wanted from sushi, eggs and bacon, rice and noodles etc. The staff were very helpful, there english was excellent also.

eating out, lots of lovely restaurants nearby: Lotus, excellent fusion food, supper club, lots on beach restaurants on the beach either side of the hotel, all reasonably priced. We did eat in the hotel one evening, but was very expensive. We had xmas eve gala dinner, the buffet was out of this world, from lobster to beef wellington to thai curry etc,

One thing to bear in mind, you have to pay from wi-fi, rip off!!!!

overall, we had a wonderful time, well worth visiting if you want a relaxing stress free holiday,

Dear jediknightNorthWales,

Thank you for your review

We're glad you had a comfortable stay with us. Although this was some time back - I would like to thank you for your feedback. The hotel is pretty much the same in terms of ambiance and service with a smile.

Some renovations have been done to the restaurants, rooms and facilities with more renovations to come to ensure a better product.

We do hope to welcome you back soon.

My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon in Phuket and stayed at the Dusit Thani. We have a very bad experience. The beach was boring, it was filled with mainly older couples or families, the location was AWFUL, and the food was very bad. We arrived into a gated community and once we entered the Dusit area, I knew we weren't going to enjoy our stay. Everything looked older and not remodeled, the check in was long and they were incredibly unflexible trying to get us to pay for everything we asked for including changing to a sea view vs. laguna view room, getting internet access, etc., although it was the MOST expensive hotel we stayed in (we also went to Bangkok, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, and Hong Kong). We entered the room and it smelled of humidity and the sheets were damp. The bathroom robe had a huge stain on it. The food was not tasty at all, from the breakfast buffet to the lunch we had at two of their restaurants. To get out of the Laguna area was so expensive, starting at 30 USD and they offered no service to get you out of the area. We went to Surin beach for the day and had an amazing time, with younger crowds and better music. Its a good option if you are a family who wants quiet time, awful if you are a young couple on your honeymoon or going for a fun vacation.

We travelled to Phuket in September with our 2 children aged 6 and 7 with two interconnecting rooms facing the ocean.

This was my 3rd trip to Thailand and 2nd trip to Phuket. In 2008 we stayed at the J W Marriott - a lovely resort but somewhat isolated.

We would highly recommend the Dusit Thani despite all of the complaints by some other reviewers - yes it is slightly faded and the rooms are smallish, however, this did not bother us in the slightest as the staff were overwhelmingly pleasant - particularly the breakfast staff who took time to acquaint themselves with our children, and made our stay very pleasant.

The hotel was quiet at the time and not many children in the kids club, however, our children were resourceful and thankfully made friends with as many children/adults that they could - we met a lovely couple and their daughter from Melbourne and a gorgeous child from Moscow who walked around the resort hand in hand with my daughter despite the great language barrier. Thanks to Miss Sofie and the other child carers who were great with our children - we hugged and almost cried when we left.

We enjoyed a fantastic trip to Phi Phi snorkelling and would also recommend the Island Safari trip - touristy but great fun esp for the kids my 6 yo boy had a great time playing soccer with an elephant and doing Thai boxing!

Foodwise - the Lotus restaurant is highly recommended ( I cannot believe the person who complained about the tuk tuk being uncomfortable!!!??!! let alone the scary birds at breakfast (is that a joke?) Other recommendations are Ruen Thai at the hotel, and the Capri restaurant in the village outside the hotel.

We were pleased we stayed at this hotel as we visited the Laguna (where we had originally planned to stay)and thought that hotel was spoilt completely by the awful shanties on the beachfront. We also enjoyed hiring a free kayak and going out on the Lagoon. We went to Patong once on a wet day to do some shopping and same with Central Phuket. We don't like Patong so were not bothered about being some distance away from it.

The hotel taxi probably is expensive but there are plenty of taxi drivers outside the hotel who are happy to do a deal we paid about 1200 baht and had an entire airconditioned mini bus driver take us wherever we wanted! We went on various excursions including Chalong Bay - there is a great restaurant down by the pier, Patong, Wat Chalong and Central Phuket. Good value - about $40 for the day for 4 people.

The pool was extremely pleasant, the massages, henna tattoes, manicures and pedicures on the beach were fantastic and the gym was excellent.
We loved this hotel and the people as it was everything we love about Thailand - don't forget to go to a Wat - the children enjoyed that immensely. We will be returnign in October. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Dusit - it was truly memorable.

My wife and I were somewhat concerned about our planned visit in view of the last number of negative reviews - well we are writing from our Dusit Club room, almost 400sq.ft , walk out to the beach - glorious views!
We have travelled extensively and have had the pleasure in staying in many 5 CAA/AAA diamond properties and this resort certainly compares most favourably!. It is NOT glitzy, 'Canunish' but a rather an understated elegance resort. We have found the service impeccable, staff have been most gracious and attentive.
We had a problem with the a/c but they immediately came and fixed, allowing us to use another room to avoid as much inconvenience as possible. Our housekeeping was performed very well and promptly after we left our room for breakfast - in this regard they were excellent too!
At our morning breakfasts either in the Trattoria or Laguna Cafe, the selection of food was vast and well cooked and presented. Gorgeous setting, looking across beautiful grounds, sound of a waterfall, with excellent service - could not get much better!
I would be remiss not to single out 'Thip' and 'Rohana' for their most dedicated service during our stay - nothing was too much for them. We had 'lost' one suitcase by Air Canada - do not think it actually left Canada ! - and they took over the work of communicating with the airlines and getting it finally delivered tom us!- we were spared from all this tedious work!
Reluctant to name too many staff as they all exhibited such gracoiusness, but have to mention the Front Desk manager too - he was so helpful!
In closing, a thoroughly enjoyable experience - feel free to e-mail if you want more info.
