“Ideal Place th Holiday”
Reviewed 7 December 2005

We recently spent a week at the Allamanda Laguna Phuket and found the experience absolutely FANTASTIC. The resort as a whole was friendly and very well set out with beautifully manacure grounds and surrounds. The accomadation was above average and extremely comfortable. We had an ajoining room with friends with one room being large entry/dining room with full kitchen, sunken lounge with T.V. all with beautifully tiled floors. The bedroom has an ensuite with heaps of robe space and the BIGGEST bed we've ever seen - Fantastic accomadation. The food an facilities are above average - 3 pools, 3 restaraunts and bars (plus availability to 4 other resorts via shuttle bus or boat). The Angsana Spa and Massage facility is wonderful and should be used. And the staff - just amazing, humble and obliging people where nothing is a problem and they actually make your stay complete. THANK YOU ALLAMANDA LAGUNA PHUKET for a wonderful stay we will return.

I stopped in the Allamanda for 3 nights in a double suite.

The suits are fantastic. Extremely large and very well equipped. The small touches really made this hotel.

The hotel itself is pleasant. The bar area is not very large although there are numerous seating areas to enjoy the views. Restaurant food is of good quality although very expensive. As is most of the items for sale here especially compared to prices in the rest of Thailand.

It is the less luxurious cousin of the other hotels in Laguna but in it's own right a very nice place to stay.

The Laguna resort is very nice. Well maintained and green although quite isolated from the real Phuket, just 5 minutes outside of the resort.

The beach is fantastic and is lined with various bars/restaurants and tailors (which I found a bit strange)

We have spent 5 happy holidays at Christmas time over the last four years. We spent the first two at the impressive Sheraton. However once the kids were over 12, they couldn't share our room so we now stay at the Alamanda.
If you really like a beach holiday where you step out of your room and the beach is very near then the Alamanda will annoy you. Even though it is easy to get to and from the beach, with free bus shuttle services between the hotels and the boat from hotel to beach, if you do forget something then it will be a 20-30 minute round trip.
However... the rooms and the accommodation are very good and we pay less for two bedrooms two bathrooms, living room and kitchen than we did for one room at the Sheraton. The staff are friendly- they put on a great show for returning guests.
This is a quiet secure area. If you want the flesh pots and night life of Patong then you can get a cheap taxi into town. They take you there wait for you and bring you back and usually all for around £10-12. So if you do have a few older teenagers, send them together in the cab and they can still have fun. If you do want to eat the the hotels then you will pay hotel proices. The beach is good for eating and although much was destroyed last year with the Tsunami, by this Christmas I believe a they will be back and probably even better. Also just outside the Lagoon area there are a few restaurants where the collect and deliver you for no charge. The hotel food is expensive while the bars on the beach are very reasonable , even if Bang tao Beach is the most expensive on the Island. remeber while some liquor is cheap, wine is mostly imported and pricey. if you like a tipple bring some with or go to Tesco Lotus where the wine is good , if expensive. ( £5 a bottle for Aussi merlot)

The beach is a dream, thewater at Xmas is like a bath and the area is never too busy. Hire a longbopat with 5-6 friend and go snorkelling ffor a couple of hours and pay £10-£15 between you. Go elephant trekking, car round the Island. look its a long way to go. We always go Thai- the food and the entertainment may not be the best but the seat pitch is the biggest and you can go both ways overnight and sleep. We find this the best for the long journeys. Do something else on the way. Bangcock is noisy and busy. Chiang Mi is delightful 3 nights is enough. We have been to Hong Kong, and Chiang Rai.

What makes the Alamanda so attractive to us is the space. As a family of four we have two dowble rooms and two bathrooms, a large lounge and a kitchen and guest wc. Its like a home from home. This was a one off holiday for us but now we have been to Phuket my wife doesnt want anywhere else for her winter holiday. It expensive to get there but when you are there the living is easy and the prices are low.
We are returning again to see our "frineds" on the beach.

I have been staying at laguna resort each winter for the last 10 years. Never get bored of it.

I spend most of the time in the resort of 5 hotels for activities and meals. For good local and cheap meal, try the restaurants on the beach. The famous one is Lotus. Between the beach front of Allamanda and Banyan tree. Steam fish is wonderful!!!!!!

However, now on Dec 28, 2004..... All the restaurants on the beach front were gone!!!! Sure they will rebuild soon.

Allamanda is an apartment hotel. Have a bit more space than other hotel rooms in the region as it's a suite hotel. They also offer one bedroom and two bedroom apartment suites and townhouses.

The downside for this hotel is its distance from the beach. I usually get on a boat (free ride) on the lagoon to the beach. It's a fun ride. I never walk to the beach! Because of this short boat ride (3 mins) to the beach/the distance from the beach, Allamanda is unaffected at all during the disaster!!!!!!

I and my husband did always worry about tidal waves and sea level rises (people might think that we were crazy but after this disaster....guess nobody will laugh at us anymore....) We seldom stayed at a room which fronted the water. And trying to avoid wooded huts, although it's a great fun to stay in a hut.

As it's a big resort with 5 hotels, we don't usually go to phuket town(not much to do there) or patong beach. It's great if you want a sun and quiet and sporting activity holiday. For pub, bar and overnight fun stuff it's better to stay at Patong beach. Getting to Patong beach takes around 20 mins from Laguna resort.

A nice resort located on Phuket Island! This resort is part of the Laguna Resorts located in a cluster of other Laguna Hotels seperate from the city, etc.
This resort featured nice rooms either overlooking the pool, laguna, or garden areas. It is quite far from the actual beach or ocean, you could walk but it might take 20-30 min. Our studio suite featured a nice size king size bed in a seperate room and a kitchenette with a living room area. The room had two TV's and it was roomy enough. Recommend to not eat at the hotel restaurants (6 hotels total) in this cluster. They are very overpriced compared to the whole Thailand pricing schedule, that anyone can see "outside the resort". Our room was pretty nice, I would not call this a 5 star US type hotel though. We had significant rain while there, and our roof leaked a little, and I feel the bathroom could have been remodeled, kinda needed good cleaning. This facility offered only two computers for internet access for an expensive fee. (first 15min free daily).
The pools were nice. Overall service was fine. Pricing at "their" mini-mart was overpriced. Recommend rent a car to go to town to get necessities. Beware of the Taxi scams they run to get you to take "their" taxis to all the close-by towns. Take a "metered taxi" from the airport, it is very inexpensive. A rental car is very cheap there. Don't rent a car at the hotel though, get it in town. The restaurants that were located in the cluster, but not part of the hotel were great. These restaurants are located at the "Village" area and very good, and pricing very nice. There was an italian and an variety type of restaurant. The boat trip to get there is free from the hotel and it takes a few minutes to get there. There was an excellent restaurant located just outside the Laguna area called "Tatonka" that was absolutely superb and highly recommended. The famous area of Patong Beach is about 30 minutes from this resort. We found a great Swiss Restaurant in the Condotel tower: "Ski Hutte Restaurant", for some superb fondue dishes. Enjoy your visit to Phuket!
