“Gorgeous on all counts! We are hoping to extend our stay”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

We are four and a half days into our stay and we are in LOVE with this place! We did a lot of research on where to stay in Phuket, and The Surin kept grabbing our attention. So we booked it. We are so glad we did. My husband and I are both sea lovers and Pansea Beach is phenomenal. It is the low season, monsoon season, which means the sea is what some would call rough. But if you love swells and waves it's absolutely perfect. The lifeguards are wonderful letting you know when and where on the beach it is better to swim. We have been boogie boarding every day and catching some fantastic rides. In addition to boogie boards, The Surin has surfboards, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and hobie cats for the guests to use, although the hobie cats are not in operation in the low season.
We are in a hillside cottage with a partial view of the beach. It's quite private and very cozy, and surrounded by fauna of various sorts and amazing birds. The Surin is an all cottage resort built on a hillside overlooking Pansea Beach and the Andaman Sea. Most reviewers mention the stairs. I will agree, there are lots of stairs. If you have mobility issues I would look elsewhere. Otherwise, you just look at the stairs as your daily workout.
The food is very good here, and the breakfast is lovely with lots of variety, beautiful fresh local fruit, homemade croissants, danishes and jams, muesli and fresh yoghurts, Thai/Asian choices, and your typical Western breakfast. You have a choice of at least five fresh juices. Good coffee, too!
Staff members at The Surin are WONDERFUL. We had an issue opening our window and they came right away to fix it. Also, the A/C was not working optimally. Again, they came quickly to attend to the issue. Every staff member is so kind and pleasant, always making you feel welcome.
I cannot speak highly enough of The Surin. If you are having trouble deciding where to book on Phuket, do yourself a favor and book The Surin. You will not regret it.

I booked the Surin on Agoda, based on price (good value in low season) and location (sharing a private beach with the deluxe Amanpuri). What an absolute score! The hotel was recentlly refurbished in 2013, and each room is a standalone villa in muted greys and greens. It looks quite California chic and I for one did not miss the usual Asian decor. The beach is stunning, the service great, and the food delicious. We had wonderful spa treatments and felt totally relaxed and at home. Phuket is one of those places that your experience is largely determined by your resort. There's not much to "see and do" other than relax on the beach. We found huge bundles of value for money and relaxation here. The aircon in the rooms is quite noisy, and I would have liked to have the restaurant menus and a list of wine by the glass in the room too, but these are small things. Also there weren't really enough sun beds or seats at the beach bar, so I recommend the hotel add some more of these given that it was low season when we visited. These are the only areas I can find to pick fault! We stepped out one day to find Catch beach bar (down the road, and frequently recommended online). We couldn't get back to the Surin fast enough! I'll certainly be returning to this piece of paradise and what is, I think, possibly the best beach I've seen whilst living in South East Asia.

Room Tip: Rooms at the top (we stayed in 320) do suffer from some road noise and you need strong thighs! I for...

Dear zoetherese,

Thank you very much for writing a review on Tripadvisor. Guests feedback is very important to us and without it, we would never be able to improve our services and facilities.
I think it's a great idea to have the menus of the restaurants in the room and we are currently looking at how we can insert the menus in our room directory. Thank you for the suggestion.

We look forward to welcome you back to your Paradise!

We are a family of 5 with adult kids who wanted to relax for a few days from the hurly burly of India and Bangkok. I explored a lot of options before deciding on The Surin. Was very torn between the Amanpuri and Trisara. A friend had stayed at The Chedi [ its previous incarnation] and told us to book it.
Its great. A beach that is incomparably beautiful. Stunning beach and wonderful surf. The accommodation is beautiful and the staff are extremely efficient. Nothing was too much trouble and the general attitude was accommodating and friendly. We will return. I have read a few posts that complained about the breakfast. its fabulous. 5 different types of fresh juices, freshly made waffles/pancakes/omelettes. Selection of pastries and deli meats. It knocks The Datai into the distance - far far better. If you have any doubts - submerge them and book it. We looked at the Aman and preferred The Surin. If you have mobility issues then the steps will be a problem but all in all it should not deter you!

Room Tip: They are all good

We stayed at The Surin almost a year ago. To this day (hundreds of hotels since) it still rates as one of the most enjoyable experiences we have had. That goes for North America, Europe, South-East Asia and Australia.

Our stay at Surin was effectively smack in the middle of the low season, the beach was wavey and the resort was not at capacity. Rain was a factor on some days - but it always gave way to stunning afternoons and even more spectacular sunsets. Our time spent here was made so memorable because of the staff - the food - the location - the facilities.

The Thai are a people who understand the difference between service and hospitality. The staff at the Surin are no exception.

We spent four nights at The Surin as part of a long weekend trip. First thing that struck us is the amount of stairs between many of the rooms and the main resort area. It's probably well advertised but we weren't aware until turning up. It's not a major issue but older or less mobile guests might find it a challenge to move between rooms and the main areas. That said, the service has been excellent and I'm sure management would cater to anyone's needs by placing them in a nearby room.

The staff are friendly, keen to help and generally have excellent English skills.

The rooms are nicely set out. Plenty of amenities and a seat in the shower, which is nice. The bed is quite firm but we were ok with that.

Both restaurants are excellent. Weather pending, the beach bar is also a lot of fun. Good selection of wine. Mostly local beer.

There are local women soliciting cheap massages and even cheaper cocktails at the beach front. They don't pester you unless you show interest in what's on offer (very different from Bali).

We stayed in low season and the weather has been on and off (to be expected). We certainly haven't regretted coming at this time of year. The storms don't last long and the weather is great when it's over. We have had no trouble swimming in the sea but do note that this time of year the water is not as it's shown on the hotel website which is presumably high season weather.

Dear LangyArabia,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review on Tripadvisor. You are right about our stairs and our reservation always try to accommodate guests who request room nearby the reception, so don't hesitate to contact us.

We do have local massage on the beach and we feel that it is an added value for our guests and part of the Thai experience. The staff does not belong to the hotel, but we asked them to always be polite and provide good service to our guests. Nothing better than to have a good Thai massage on the beach!
Kindly note that we also have a full Spa with different kinds of treatments (facials, body scrubs, oil massage etc...)

We are glad to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with us and we look forward to welcome you back in the near future.

Four days of relaxation in a lovely hillside cottage was a great way to start my Phuket Trip. My cottage was right at the end of the headland and while there were a few stairs to get there, the trip was worth it for the seclusions and privacy.
The facilities were all to a very high standard and I was never left wanting for anything from the friendly staff.
I'd love to go back in high-season when the beach is swimmable - but even without it the large pool is enough to keep you happy for the day.
I indulged in room service every night and ate some incredibly tasty and fresh Thai delights.
It's highly recommended and I'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: All of the cottages are quite private. The beachfront cottages would have less steps involved.
