“Great value, authentic and genuine local Thai experience”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

We having been visiting the Surin Beach area for the last 5 years, and in June of last year we moved over here for work purposes and now live very close to The Tin Shed. We have always enjoyed the friendly local experience available here and this is now cemented as our 1 or 2 visit a week favorite local eatery. A large and extensive menu covering breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a blend of authentic Thai dishes, plus fresh seafood in the evenings, along with a bit of western fare and some options for the kids. The seafood is always fresh as they often run out if busy or we drop by late, plus we've spotted Papa buying at the roadside market stalls in neighboring Bangtao. Run by a lovely local family, with Mama in the kitchen and Papa alternating between waiting tables, running plates and babysitting little 16 month old Nina who is a constant source of entertainment to the diners! Don't expect flash or five star, and relax, chill and just enjoy another cold Singha if they are busy because service can back up a little if they are under the pump, but rest assured they will get you fed as quickly as their little kitchen can. The sort of place that never runs out of beer, because Papa just jumps on his motorbike and whips up to the nearby Tesco to grab some more plus a few vegies for the kitchen at the same time. Food is always tasty, exceptionally cheap and great value, you should dine here. We send visiting friends to many of the multitude of restaurants available in the Surin area, at all different price and style levels but invariably The Tin Shed always rates very highly!

“It really is a Tin Shed”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

Ignore the Tripadvisor photo of this restaurant - it is not the actual place. The Tin Shed is exactly what it's name suggests - a tin shed on the main road through Surin town (not at the beach). Authentic Thai restaurant that serves reasonably good food but incredibly slow service - they are under staffed! The family cat in the restaurant chasing and playing with a cockroach was funny but not inspiring confidence about cleanliness. There are much better local Thai places nearby.

“A friendly, authentic Thai restaurant”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

We ate here several times on our 7 night stay in Surin Beach for both dinners and lunches. We ate a range of Thai dishes including green curry, pad thai, squid dishes and prawn stir fries. The seafood was exceptionally fresh and they had their selection out on ice if you wanted to pick your own fish. They never seemed to have heaps of seafood out which I thought was good as it meant it was all used up in one night.
They were always accommodating to my vegetarian requests and were eager to please our 2 year olds requests! Free fruit at the end if every meal was a nice touch.
Being a family owned business everyone working seems happy to be there and it was nice for our little boy to talk to their little girl.
As this restaurant was on our way to Surin Beach, we usually passed it several times a day and there were always smiles and waves exchanged. Our 2 year old got to know 'Ao', one of the waiters and still talks about him and wants to go to Ao's restaurant!!
Don't expect a 5 star restaurant here, but do expect friendly service, tissues as serviettes, old stubby coolers and a delicious 'home cooked' Thai meal. Just a tip though- if you like your Thai food spicy, it's probably best to request this when ordering. We felt they were probably a bit light on with the chillies but I understand they are probably catering for the tourists (although locals seemed to eat there too)
