Great guide, gorgeous scenery, so many seals, and then we landed near loch curuisk. A short hike put us in the land that time forgot; I half expected dinosaurs to appear.

This trip was the highlight of our time in Skye, and that says something as Skye has so much wonderful things to see and do, which we managed to do some over our week in Skye. We took the trip from Elgol harbour on the Misty Isle boat called Eilean a Cheo which means Island of Mist or Misty Isle.
We wanted to go to Rum and choose this trip as it just felt right, there are so many ways we could of gone to Rum, so glad I stuck with my gut instinct.
The trip out to Rum was brilliant, steady and fast, I had no concerns for my two children and felt we were in safe hands. We had a great time ashore on Rum, we had four hours before the boat came back with the other passengers who choose to visit Canna and see the Puffins and other wildlife.
We were picked up and had a hot drink and biscuit which was very nice and then what did we see, a ORCA.!!! The excitement was incredible for all on board, and Thomas the skipper steered us towards this incredible sight, we tracked it and were side by side so close that we heard it as it surfaced many times. Even though it was the homeward journey as we had all had our trips the boat keep going and we had so much fun and we in awe of this magnificent site and felt so privileged to have witnessed this animal before it made its way out to sea.
We were really impressed by this family lead company, they make you feel so welcome from the time we arrived until we left and we just wished we could of stayed longer on Skye so we could experience some of their other boat trips.
We will definitely be back and will choose the Misty Isle Boat Trips every time, they are worth every penny. Thank you Thomas and Seamus for being just great hosts, you made all your visitors very happy indeed.

Took the Canna trip with Thomas as skipper. The business is run by a local family with history in this business, and it shows with the warmth shown and knowledge of the scenery and waters.
We had an alternative choice of a fast rib for this same trip, but felt that a more leisurely and comfortable boat would allow us to see more, and also enjoy the hot drinks and biscuits offered during the crossing to Canna!
A small but important point to note is that with freedom to move around the boat we could take in every view, including the stunning view back to the Cuillins on Skye on the outward crossing. We could also move around the boat to observe and photograph the Minke Whale, Sea Eagle, Dolphins and Puffins spotted during the full afternoon trip.
The 1 hour stop over on Canna was delightful, and the bacon roll from the Canna cafe hit the spot nicely!
Thomas was a great skipper, full of local info and very knowledgeable. His coffee wasn't too bad either!
A highly recommended excursion to see the amazing wildlife around Skye and the nearby small isles.

The Misty Isle boat trips are run by Seamus Mackinnon, his wife and son and are easily the best boat trips in Elgol. Seamus is local and he and his staff give all the visitors a great welcome. They know all the facts about Elgol, the small isles and Loch Coruisk and give a very informative commentary while the boat is sailing. The boat itself is a lovely traditional wooden boat unlike the fibreglass boats and RIBS of the competition. Loch Coruisk can be wet and muddy so it is advisable to take good footwear, ideally wellingtons.
After the visit all tourists get a cup of tea or juice and some shortbread on the boat before heading back to Elgol. A lovely finishing touch to the day. Highly recommended.

A highlight of all our visits to Skye has been the chance to take a boat trip out to the islands, enjoy the scenery from another perspective and survey the wildlife.

The crew who operate Misty Isle Boat Trips gave us all of this and so much more. We have been told that the Skipper (Seamus MacKinnon) can trace himself right back to the very same John MacKinnon who aided Bonnie Prince Charlie in his escape from Skye.

This comes as no surprise, as it is as clear as the Cuillins on a beautiful day, that this crew knows its stuff!

We took the short trip to Loch Coruisk. The weather was ok without being brilliant, but it was a wonderful sail, enhanced by the charming, informative and entertaining young men who took us there (James & Ian)

We were so delighted with the experience, that we booked a second trip, this time out to Canna, skirting Rum on the way back. We seemed to be out for hours! It was tremendous. The conditions were so much better that we were able to see everything at its best. That included a minke whale, more seals, puffins, and.......at long last, a white-tailed eagle!!

Tom (the skipper of the boat) made the trip so interesting. Once again, the charm, friendliness and obvious knowledge were evident. Everything seemed to move at a slow pace, and Tom was happy to stop at any point if we saw something of interest. Coffee and Tea were on offer at any time. It was so relaxing.

When we arrived on Canna, we had time (just over an hour) to get a feel for this island. The café is excellent!

The highlight on any afternoon sali is to experience the wonderful light as the day changes its colour. Throw in a white-tailed eagle sitting majestically on a rock high up in the Isle of Rum...and you have it all.

Would do it all again! Thanks, Tom!
