We took a trip to Canna on the Eilean a Cheo. First we dropped some people off on the Isle of Rum and then proceeded to Canna. Thomas, the skipper, got the kettle on straight away for hot drinks and made them for anyone that wanted them. The weather towards Rum changed and most people stood in the sheltered bit by the wheelhouse - those of us that chose to stay outside were given waterproof capes.
We went around by some cliffs (possibly on the end of Rum) where we saw a golden eagle, kittiwakes and puffins. Then we were dropped off on Canna. There is a little café there where everybody chose to go and have something to eat.
We then went back to Rum to pick up the people that spent the afternoon there. As we were approaching Elgol someone thought they saw the fin of a minkie whale. Thomas turned the engines off and after studying it through binoculars we were told it was an Orca. We followed it at a distance always staying well away from it - but imagine our joy when it changed course and it came over to us to have a look!
After watching this gorgeous animal for ages we decided it was time to go back. The trip should have been for four hours but Thomas let us stay out longer to watch something we may never see again and it lasted over six. I would like to thank Misty Isle Boat Trips for this as some companies may have stuck to the timetable and we would not have so long to watch.
