“Good country cafe near a main road.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2013

Raining outside so we stopped for Brunch. A log fire on and it was nice and warm inside, although rather bare. Outside tables would be nice in summer.
Tea came in a teapot with extra hot water so more than one cup for the price/ Coffee was good. Eggs Benedict with bacon were well priced with crispy bacon, properly runny eggs and tasty lemony hollandaise - without balsamic vinegar which has spoiled this meal for us in other cafes.
Prompt service although we must add that the place was not busy when we were there.
We noticed it is open limited hours but are not sure if that is seasonal.
Our second visit for tea and coffee - our first visit for food. We would be happy to eat here again.
Easy to find as it is beside the main road from Murchison to Nelson.

“Great stop for coffee and food at Kohatu Junction near Nelson”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2013

I was never tempted to stop at the old pub at Kohatu Junction. But now it has been reborn as a really nice cafe. I stopped for morning tea...coffee and some cake. There is lots of parking even for a campervan, the coffee was good and well priced and I enjoyed my snack. It looks nice inside and out and is worth a stop. It is very conveniently placed at the junction between roads to Nelson, Motueka, St Arnaud and onwards to/from Murchison.

“Good stop”

Nice place to stop, sit and enjoy a meal. Busy day for staff but none seemed flustered by the crowd and served quickly.

“Nice Country Cafe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2013

This cafe is located south of Nelson, at the junction to Tapawera/Motueka and further south to Murchison/West Coast/Lewis Pass. We had a lovely late lunch here. The cafe was very busy when we arrived, although did empty out a bit whilst we were here. The food and service were excellent and we would definitely eat here again. There is a lovely outdoor seating area and good seating inside The toilets were very clean and well presented.

“Great Country Cafe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 October 2012

The Kohatu Flat Rock Cafe was recently reopened and is a great place to stop for refreshments, on your journey through the Taperwera area, from Nelson to Murchison, or, like the group of us, after a day tramping the Nelson Lakes Area. They have well presented, comfortable seating, both inside and out, wonderful food and drinks from coffee to organic fruit juices, wines to beers. It was so nice to end a hard days walk in such lovely surroundings. I am planning to visit more often. Worth the trip from Nelson just to visit the cafe.
