We spent five days in Alajar, staying at La Posada de Alájar (the older establishment in the village) and fitted right in. Yes, La Posada de San Marcos (their new hotel down the road) has a lot more to offer, but we rather liked being in the centre of the village with its balcony looking over the town square. It is a little scruffy, but it was comfortable and suited us down to the ground. The owners (Lucy and Angel) were super and went to a lot of trouble to ensure we had all the information and facilities we needed. They are both mines of information and we spent ages just chatting to them about the area and culture. We were incredibly fortunate with the weather and had four days of amazing walking, helped by the picture guide books and a map supplied by Lucy. Alajar is pretty small village and you have to get into the rhythm of the place to really enjoy it. Shops, bars and restaurants seem to open and close according to the whims of their owners, so adopting a flexible attitude is pretty important and means you get a new adventure every day. The best thing about Alajar is that it's off the tourist map so you get a genuine Spanish experience with incredible food, scenery and atmosphere at very affordable prices. It is amazing that this hasn't been 'discovered' as it has so much going for it. We loved it and will definitely return.

This is actually two "hotels" one in the main street and a more up-mrket one in a side street where you take breakfast. We were met by one of the owners, who is English originally and fantastically helpful and pleasant. We stayed in the cheaper village posada which was fine as we were only staying a night but when we go back we'll stay at the San Marco main building where we had a gorgeous breakfast with home made and organic products. The rooms in that building are higher quality and there is an open air heated swimming pool. This is an absolute treasure of a place in a beuatiful village. Lucy gave us agret recommendation for dinner that night in one of the local restaurants where we had fabulous food and wine in a rustic atmosphere. The village is a popular location with Spaniards and others for hill walking etc. and is very picturesque. The whole area near Arecena in the mountains is beautiful and well worth visiting.

Room Tip: Sty in the more expensive building if you want a really lovely outlook

Three older men on a walking holiday and stayed for four nights . The hotel is better described as an Inn and has a rural quality that goes with the lovely village in which it is situated . I agree with the earlier reviews of these premises and endorse the complimentary comments made by them .We had no complaints and were well looked after . It is the cheaper accomodation of the two premises run by Lucy and Angel in this village and if you want a more upmarket hotel the Posada de San Marcos is worth the extra money

We stayed here for three nights as part of a walking tour. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. The village is delightful, and the hotel is about ten metres from the main square (Bar El Corcho well worth a visit, even if only to admire its amazing ceiling!). Tea and coffee facilities are in the public areas with an honesty box.

Lucy and Angel run the hotel as well as another one about five minutes walk away, Posada San Marcos. Breakfast and dinner are served there. Lucy's cooking is fantastic! They are perfect hosts, and couldn't be more helpful. Both speak perfect English and are full of advice about walks, food, olive oil and the cork industry! Out of a huge number of hotels I've stayed in this year, this is by far the nicest and the only one which has scored full marks on everything - if possible, I'd give it eleven out of ten!

(Walking in the area is superb - ask for recommendations if not already sorted with routes).

We stayed for a weekend there along with another couple. Our room had a huge and comfortable bed. Everything was very clean and we were glad to have a room with a balcony. It was quite pleasant to sit there at night while we could see people passing by.

We had to go to another hotel that belongs to the same owners in order to have breakfast or to go for a swim in the swimming-pool. But since the village is so charming and small, it takes only two or three minutes to get there on foot and it's ok.

I must also add how lovely both Lucy and Angel are! Angel explained all kinds of things about local products and his suggestions for a healthy and different breakfast was highly appreciated.

I would return to their hotel 100% sure!!

To be honest my stay was only an hour but the purpose of this review is to highlight what a lovely place and very helpful people own it.
We needed an English speaking Spanish person and they are few in this area! We were not staying in the hotel but they could not have been more helpful!
I recommend you stay here as it was very clean, lovely food and well located.
Thanks again!!
