Calico Jack’s was an awesome place to stay with family. We had ages six to 64 and all were able to participate in the adventures of Calico Jack’s. All the people were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend Calico Jack’s.

The staff at Calico Jacks was wonderful. We found them to be very helpful and professional in planning our visit and attending to every detail. We took a tour to Caracol and Rio Frio Cave which was arranged by the staff before our arrival. Climbing the Mayan monuments and walking through the cave was amazing and a must see if visiting Belize. The pictures of Calico Jacks do not do this place justice. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautifully decorated the resort is from the grounds, to the villas and the restaurant. We spent 3 nights in the Sun temple which is a very comfortable, beautifully decorated 2 bedroom villa which included a kitchen, sitting area with a tv, and 2 full bathrooms. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. The food is delicious and prepared daily from scratch with many of the ingredients grown on the premises. After an afternoon of hiking we went for a swim and relaxed at the pool. We can't wait to return and bring more family members on our next trip to Calico Jacks.

Room Tip: All of the villas and rooms we viewed were beautifully decorated.

We stayed at Calico Jack's for 4 days, in their Moon Temple villa. We are a family of four so the three bedroom villa was perfect for us. Right from the time of booking, the service was fantastic. Maria always responded to my questions quickly and professionally. That set the tone for the entire visit - the service was excellent from beginning to end.

The road to Calico Jack's (Chiquibul Road) is 7 miles of gravel and a 4x4 is required although I am sure CJs could arrange transport if needed. The Moon Temple villa had 3 bedrooms (2 rooms had queens, 1 room had 2 doubles) and 2 bathrooms with showers. The kitchen area had a microwave, small fridge, coffee maker and utensils. There is A/C for a charge of $30 but we never used it, the fans were sufficient. It was very comfortable and clean. Any issues or requests we had were promptly resolved.

We ate breakfast and dinner each day we wee there. We had the continental breakfast which included fresh fruit (3 kinds), toast, another bread (buns, coffee or banana or carrot bread, or corn bread) and tea/coffee. For dinner we particularly enjoyed the red snapper, chicken kabobs and the curry. Dinner orders are required by 2pm each day because the food is made fresh. The brownies were enjoyed every day! Be aware that a LOT of fresh garlic is used in the garlic shrimp and pesto - good for garlic lovers!

We did a number of self-driving tours while we were there and CJs was the perfect base for Xunantunich and Cachal Pech, Rio Frio Cave, Rio On Pools, Big Rock Waterfall, MET horse riding and the ATM tour. These can also be booked through CJs. Again, if you are self-driving, you'll need a 4x4.

Two of our family did the zip-lining which was good (will review separately).

The grounds are beautiful with lots of birds and lush jungle foliage.

The best part of the stay though was definitely the people. At the risk of forgetting someone, Maria, Elias, Henry, Julio, Andres, John David and William were all very friendly, helpful, polite and professional. It was a pleasure meeting them and spending time learning about their country. CJs isn't a fancy spot. It's a well-kept location in the jungle that is comfortable, close to many good sites and was a wonderful place to experience Cayo from. Highly recommended for those that want to experience Cayo in the jungle!

This was our first foray into Belize. We travelled with another couple and we all thoroughly enjoyed finding this amazing little resort. We arrived just after the rainy season and had to find our way there first and were surprised at just how long 7 miles on an unpaved road could be...lol... Be prepared for a Belizean massage as the locals call it.
That is just one of the reasons that I suggest more than a few nights.
The grounds are lovely and the restaurant is inexpensive and delightful. As it was our first of 3 places we had booked (3 nights each place) we didn;t recognize just how good we had it there.
Local products cooked tastefully, presented beautifully and cheap beers. Coffee in the morning was the only pricey item. but everything else was incredibly reasonable.
The owners are a truly wonderful and inspiring couple who are doing such an amazing job educating locals and travelers alike in one of the poorest areas of Belize. Would love to have had more time getting to know Dr. Ydahlia and her husband Chester
Through the resort we hired a local guide and visited Barton Caves. This is a must do. it was one of the highlights of my entire trip. Our friends rated the zip line and the staff amazing. We spent a day visiting local ruins and if you are going to Caracol, this would be a really good place to stay too.
Although the resort is very comfortable and well appointed (sun palace) it did not have enough windows with screens in them to let in some fresh air especially at night for me. During the day we left the doors open and were pleasantly surprised at the lack of insects. So it was not a big deal by any stretch of the imagination. Truly a minor point.
WE all agreed that we would stay here again in a heartbeat and this time spend a bit more time actually staying there.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sun Palace with another couple and it was very comfortable and roomy.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom Sun Temple villa. It was clean and beautifully constructed, with stone floors and shower stalls. The grounds are beautiful and the trees are full of so many birds. This was a perfect base camp to explore the Mountain Pine Ridge and San Ignacio area.

We ate dinner at the resort restaurant every night. The food was so good – fresh, flavorful and made to order. Even the picky eaters in our group were happy. Definitely top off your meal with flan or sticky toffee pudding; you won’t be sorry!

There is zip-lining on site. We chose the Ultimo Explorer tour and had a blast! Our guides were excellent, very professional and patient. There was some hiking involved, too, which was good as we did not get a chance to explore their jungle trails.

The absolute best thing about Calico Jack’s, though, is the incredibly awesome staff. From the moment we pulled in the driveway, everyone was so warm and friendly and helpful. Each person we met had a smile and a pleasant greeting. They showed a genuine interest in our enjoyment, asking about our daily adventures and offering assistance and advice. We were made to feel right at home.
