“Poor atmosphere”
Reviewed 18 August 2014 via mobile

Ate here with my parents yesterday evening; the food & service were both great, but the atmosphere was poor with it being so quiet, due to there being no gentle background music. But overall, great views of the lock & loch - although, the staff could've done with having a bit more of a personality lol!

We took the opportunity of an itison voucher to visit Crinan for the first(and hopefully)not the last time.Travelling through from the east of scotland on a grey showery sunday afternoon our arrival at a sunny Crinan made a very welcoming change. As other reviewers have said the location is wonderful - we had a classic room-great view from there too so no need to upgrade.Although our voucher was for one night we prebooked a 2nd night directly with the hotel at a rate much preferable to that offered by the usual online agencies. We ate both nights in the Seafood bar-the sunday night was quiet but it was busy on the monday. We both had sea bass as the fish of the day served with very good vegetables. My wife was delighted to repeat this choice on the secondnight whereas I chose Scallops-also very nice.We preferred the seafood bar to the rather formal looking dining room-although it doubles up as a nice breakfast room-nice to be served from the kitchen rather than a buffet.A word on the wine list-as only 1 of us was drinking wine, good to see half bottles being offered.A rarity these days ! A special word of thanks to Catherine at reception-she could not have been more helpful in advising on local walks. In the event we walked along the canal to Cairnbaan where we enjoyed a nice lunch al fresco.uncannily the weather turned wet when we came to leave on the tuesday morning.

Room Tip: All are said to have sea views

Just home from an enjoyable overnight stay at the crinan hotel, it's worth the trip. Seldom do I spend a night away from home when the bed is as comfortable as my own & this was 1 of those few occasions, lovely/quality bedding too good food & welcoming staff.

This a wonderful location by the Crinan Canal with a great view at the front of the loch. Very quirky and eclectic which I suspect is a bit like Marmite - you love it or hate it. We ate seafood - scallops and langoustine - which was very fresh but the alioli tasted sweet and is best avoided.

Our room was adequate, nicely decorated and with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean with a powerful shower but not up to modern standards and really needed a refurb. When the towels got wet they smelt (?of food) as if they had been stored or dried somewhere near the kitchens.

Breakfast was great. `probably the best we had in Scotland with the option of porridge and kippers, both of which were sample and rated excellent by my husband.

We got a deal on this hotel which made it reasonable value but I would have been disappointed if we had paid full price. Don't know about the other rooms but I think think hotel is all about expectations. If you expect a 3* you will probably be very pleased but expect a 4* and you may be disappointed.

Have just returned from a wonderful overnight at the Crinan. Great location at lock 16. Seafood bar very good great fresh langoustines. Good barman of longstanding Chris. The owners have been there for 45 years would u believe. Very friendly. Great little coffee shop just yards from the hotel. Great stop to relax and watch all the activity

Room Tip: Wifi at reception. Room1 is good at the front of the hotel with great views. Very spacious

The hotel has the most wonderful setting overlooking the locks/basin of the Crinan Canal as it reaches the Atlantic and over to Jura and Scarba. It's a mix of pub, restaurant, art gallery and hotel and has a lot of character with orignal art everywhere. Nice magazines in the lounge. We ate in the bar/bistro where the seafood was excellent. We also had a super room with our own deck/balcony with fanatic views. The room was cosy and nicely decorated in pale yellow. Huge comfy bed. Good lighting and a warm bathroom thanks to the heating being kept on even at height of summer - thank you! Hotel would make a good base for touring this lovely part of Argyll.
The downsides are that some parts of the hotel look a bit scruffy, the bathrooms could do with upgrading and and it sorely needs investment, including on wifi which is only avail in the lounge. It is also very expensive! although we chose to pay the extra for the room with balcony and didn't regret it

Room Tip: Some rooms have their own balcony/deck

Booked a late deal for the Crinan Hotel and we were not disappointed. On arrival it was a miserable wet day and you could not see much as the mist was hanging over the Paps of Jura. We relaxed at the hotel and the owners who checked us in were extremey nice. We had a good old natter with the owner who had worked on the Queen Mary 1 in years gone by. We exchanged stories as we has also stayed on the Queen whilst on holiday in Long Island.
The hotel itself is was pleasant and our room had a wonderful sea facing view.
Our evening meal was excellent , king prawns and scallops with bacon. The restaurants were really busy as there were a vast amount of yachts moored.
The weather cleared up and the evening sunset was spectacular.
Breakfast was very good and well prepared. The only thing was, it was like a scene out of ,Gods waiting room. The servers were very polite and professional.
Will definitely return. Thankyou
