Beloved Playa Mujeres
Ranked #1 of 7 Hotels in Playa Mujeres
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 13 June 2014

Words cannot truly express how much we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Beloved - from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out. We booked the Beloved for our honeymoon, a little piece of luxury to celebrate our wedding (neither of us had ever stayed all-inclusive in a 5* hotel), and like the wedding itself, it was worth the planning and expenditure. Much of the credit for this glowing review must be attributed to the staff who, without exception, were friendly, courteous and willing to go that extra mile to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. If I may highlight just two examples of this: 1) After larking about in the pool (a man of my age should know better!) I became deaf in one ear. This didn't improve after some hours so I went to reception to ask whether it would be possible to get some olive oil and cotton wool for my ear, but oh no...the concierge rang a local pharmacy and within 45 mins eardrops were delivered to my room. 2) This is where Noe from the Aroma restaurant gets a shout out. Noe had waited on us several evenings and our penultimate evening was the last that Noe was on shift. He had promised us a 'special evening' and, true to his word, we had a candlelit, rose strewn table in a quiet corner of the restaurant and we were made to feel as though we were the only people in there. So, many thanks Noe (oh, and also for the magic tricks).
Throughout our stay we were addressed by name by waiters and restaurant staff (and even the manager) and this again made us feel valued as customers. It is tempting to think that this was because we treated the staff with the respect and civility that all people deserve, but I kind of think that they are all so professional that this would have no bearing on the service!!
The room was top notch, cleaned daily and with a turn down service at night. Contrary to some reports on here the food, every single meal, was of good quality, with plenty of variation.
So thankyou Beloved staff for making our honeymoon memorable and exceptionally enjoyable.

PS and many thanks to the beach waiters for our daily frapaccinos :-)

Stayed there from May 27, 2014 to May 31, 2014. Everything and everyone were ok except the guy worked at the sushi bar became disrespectful because we are Asian. Happened to me on May 28, 2014, I did not make a big deal, but when it happened to my wife and her sister, we complained and then Aubrey, the manager from the Lupita restaurant brought him to our room to apologize. Didn't know how big of a food server's ego was but his attitude was unacceptable and he probably thought serving the White People was less insulting then other ethnic groups!

So, Asians (and may be other minorities): YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE

We checked in this week. Check in took four hours. They charged us a extra $277.00 for a seven year old child. We asked to speak to a manager to discuss this and no one was available.
Rooms and service were nice. Food was average. Service was not five star. I would recommend this property if you are looking for a three star hotel but want to overpay for it
They need to replace the front desk staff

Travelers: 2 adults, kids (ages 12, 10, 7)

The hotel is quiet, somewhat sterile in design and could be a hotel located anywhere in Miami, or L.A. The hotel is located about 45 minutes outside of Cancun in a newly developed area. There are no real tourist/local facilities outside the resort.

Notes: food-not very Mexican/dishes that are supposed to be Mexican are presented as fusion (aka Westernized). The food is good but again, not true to culture. However, if you ask for a dish they will make it for you!!

Pools: there are 3 large (& largely empty) public pools. All are in need of some repair (tiles missing, exposed rebar at edge). My daughter cut her toe on broken tiles but staff was very attentive.

Bars/drink service: beach service stops at 4; people migrate to the swim up pool bar. It closes at 5. There is an outdoor lounge (lupita lounge) that serves drinks beginning sometime around 8. The music at Lupita is very good albeit short. The great live bands play for only an hour. Then it's a DJ. We always left when the DJ started because our interest was lost.

Beds/rooms/AC: the beds are very firm. We slept on the balcony one night and (rightfully) had bug bites (not mosquito) the next day. The rooms are spacious & are stocked with a nice mini-bar, coffee supplies and Bulgaria products. The AC struggles at best. Ours was set at 64 on high and never achieved better than 78--& that was at night.

Staff: despite a 4-hour check-in process that should have never taken that long, the staff is anxious to please. Friendly and as helpful as possible, they work hard to make it an upscale hotel. Know that any "money" decisions cannot be made onsite. The front desk can't alter rates set by???--ours was an incorrect number of people on the room and a mandatory $250/night up charge to resolve. A five star hotel should have decision-making power onsite.

Clientele: During our visit we saw mostly families with kids aged 7 and under, honeymooners and a few adult couples. there were no teenagers. Our kids had no new friends to make due to age discrepancies. The hotel at times feels abandoned because of its sterile, quiet nature. We were told the hotel was high occupancy and yet we only saw about the same 50-75 people. We felt sorry for the early 30's crowd as there was little for them to do either.

Summary: if you want a quiet place to retreat, don't expect to leave the resort other than for golf or scheduled off-property tour, like all white walls, white-dressed waiters, and very little interaction with others-this is your place. If you want the colors & food of Mexico, want to wander off property on your own for shopping or sightseeing, and would like some interaction with fellow travelers, look elsewhere.

As comparison, we've stayed at Iberostar Grand (adults only) and Iberostar Paraisio Maya (families), the Royal Hideaway, the Ritz, Maroma Spa, virtually every Palace hotel, the Paradisus chain, Excellence Playa Mujeres (adult only next door) and countless others that have changed names or gone.

We've been to Mexico a 100+ times as it is our favorite "2nd" country. We come to feel like we are in Mexico and celebrate its culture. Unfortunately for us, Cancun/Playa Mujeres is not that place anymore.

This was our first time to the Beloved and to Cancun and I know it won't be our last. From the moment we arrived at the hotel our family of 5 was treated so wonderfully. The property is well kept and clean. Our junior suite was also clean, well stocked and the shower space was large with your choice of 3 different shower heads.. The food at all the restaurants were all delicious and the staff treated us like family.
If you do get a chance I highly recommend the spa. It really was relaxing and they offer so much.
The beloved offers a little bit for all ages. They have different activities planned every day and even if you don't want to do anything you can just chill on the beautiful beach with your favorite drink.
I wish I could thank everyone who served us but I know I will forget some names but thank you, Mary and Mario (from Lupita's), Veronica, David and Elyzet from the spa and Patricio (customer service manager) and of course the guys (and Teresita) from the sushi bar. You guys made it all so fun.

We had a fabulous week at the Beloved. The staff and restaurants were fabulous. Never been to an all inclusive but this one was great. Not too overcrowded and the service was excellent. Our concierge was very helpful planning trips and following up on them. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel special.

Room Tip: We are in a beach room and it was a wonderful location.

I've travelled the world and prefer non traditional accommodations. The thought of having to go to an "all inclusive" for a wedding had me happy for my friend but bummed at the thought of packing into my perception of an all inclusive....cattle call buffets, crowded pools, and battling it out to lay claim to chairs out on the sand at 4 am before there were non left.
From the moment we walked in, I knew in an instant this hotel was not going to be one of those. The staff and ambience, even the fragrance in the air, was soothing. With only 100 rooms and the hotel at 80% capacity it felt like only a few people were present. The gourmet food was excellent with generous proportions. If the restaurant didn't have what we asked for the staff went to one of the other on-site restaurants to be able to serve it. The lobster served out on the beach was the largest lobster I'd seen. The staff was incredibly friendly and very trustworthy. A wedding guest left her purse on the beach and the staff placed it in a safe place until the next day. The king size cabana beds on the sand with the palappas blowing in the wind was the ultimate relaxation for this stressed out executive. I know the Excellence Hotel was rated a bit higher but I walked the Excellence. Although a very nice place it was huge with less charm and less choices.
When we checked into The Beloved, a staff member must have noticed that it was also my husband's birthday. A surprise bottle of champagne and silky chocolate cake with well wishes showed up on the second day.
The Beloved Hotel is simply amazing and the overall experience will not disappoint. An absolute value for the money.
