“"Excellent" Vacation, Highly Recommended - Gay Friendly”
Reviewed 10 June 2012

The entire resort (room, grounds, restaurants, and common areas) were extremely clean. The food was good. The steak from Chez Isabelle tasted like what you get from a catering hall. The Grill was probably our favorite restaurant. The steak there was very good. Along with the lunch options (chicken wings, steak sandwich, grilled ribs - we weren't fans of the hamburgesa). The pizza and food on the beach were very good. None of the restaurants ever seemed crowded. We never had to wait for dinner. Room service was also good and they have a wide variety of items on the menu. Breakfast is buffet style. Eggs made to order. We were fans of the French toast.

The resort is gay friendly. All the staff members were nice (took our picture, etc). No other gays were here at the time. It was funny though our welcome letter was addressed to Mr. & Mrs. which my partner loved! The crowd really ranges in age but I would say mostly in the 20s and 30s.

We received great service from Armando and Federico from the Grill, Barbara from Café Kafe, Julio and Israel from Toscano, Angel from Spice, and Carolina and Maria from the Beach.

The beach was great. Plenty of chairs (at both the beach and pool). It wasn't crowded at all (they said the resort was 85% full). A lot of reviews mention seaweed at the beach, but it was nice. They clean it up and the water is great.

We upgraded to the Excellence club and requested a room in building 8A. We stayed in 8061 and it was amazing. We had a great view of the pool and ocean. It was a swim up room and the pool by us was practically empty the whole time! There is a separate beach for Excellence Club members and private pools. You can email them and request a room in whatever building you like.

You must book a spa appointment. We booked a couple's massage and a milk bath which also turned out to be couples. Before your treatment you go through an aqua treatment. It's basically different stations in the pool where the water pulsates on different parts of your body. It was really fun. Also book your spa appointments in advance. You get 20% off when you book from their website.

The Michael Jackson show on Thursday night was amazing! The performer really looked like Michael and had all his dance moves down. The shows starts at 9:30, but be sure to get there early.

Oh and there are two channels of porn!

Make sure you bring a hundred singles for tips. It's amazing how many people don't tip. Tipping is not required, but it is the right thing to do.

The weather forecast predicted rain every day we were here. We had great weather and when it did rain it only lasted for a few minutes and then was all clear.

Also don’t forget to brush up on your Spanish. When asked where I learned Spanish, I said "Dora the Explorer". It always got a laugh!

Reviewed 10 June 2012

We stayed at this resort from 21st May - 4th June.

I read quite a lot of forum posts before heading to EPM and I noticed a lot of people were asking 'what the differences were between here & SMB' well I wont go into detail but if anyone would like my thoughts on a direct comparison between the 2, please by all means send me a PM & I will be happy to provide this.

When we arrived we were allocated room EC 8368. We loved this room due to its fab location and fab view. It was perfect for us. We never used the EC pool at building 8, however used the EC beach most days as it was lovely and peaceful. I have to give a special mention the people who work at the EC beach as their service is fantastic, especially Alex, what a guy he really did make such an effort with us and his service was absolutely fantastic. It was my birthday our first full day and he went away and got a cake made, with my name on and sang happy birthday to me at the beach, he is so sweet such a genuine guy.

Service - EC Beach was fantastic and amongst the best service we experienced here @ the resort. The guys at Basmati are fantastic, Abel, Cesar & Oscar. Abiel was fantastic in Agave he really did make such a good effort with us and made us laugh a lot. Our other waiters in there that were great too were Gerardo & Carlos, 2 great guys and great waiters. I really enjoyed these 2 restaurants the most especially for service. I feel the service in all other aspects of this resort was patchy. Pool service was very patchy indeed, some great servers (Yaro) some really bad servers that would quite happily walk past you on numerous occasions. We went into the EC Lounge to ask about changing over the alcohol in our room, one of the ones we wanted to amend was the Smirnoff for Grey Goose. We got told a firm no they do not offer this and were handed a list to choose from. Now I know this is a lie from months and months of reading the forums on Tripadvisor as many have stated they have asked for this & got this. Anyway we did end up getting Grey Goose but from an alternative source. Now for a 5 star resort I find this unacceptable you either offer this or you don’t, what is the problem???

Beach - we are used to a better beach (SMB for one) however we thought the beach was really quite nice and not sure what people are complaining about. I suppose if you are unfortunate enough to be at EPM when there is a lot of sea grass it would be hard to get into the ocean however during our stay it was lovely and clear for most of the time. You could always get a bed no matter what time of day (EC & non EC) so no issues here.

Pool - Pools were ok, not the best especially at the swim up bar. Now I know Excellence hotels cannot be held responsible for the clientele but really? We witnessed people carrying on there that perhaps would’ve been better fitted at a resort like Desires or Temptations. I amm no prude but really? It’s disgusting behaviour. If we went to the pool we went to the quiet areas as one day at the pool bar area was more than enough for us.

Food - Chez Isabelle, we didn’t rate this. We went twice once our meat was so salty it was virtually inedible second visit we ordered mahi mahi, we thought surely they can’t go wrong with this...yes they did. Such a shame as starters & deserts were lovely and the restaurant itself is stunning. Agave as mentioned above one of our fav's. Good food & service even better. Spice, loved the food. If you got Angel as your waiter you’re sorted too. Basmati, we went 4 times in 2 weeks, kind of says it all, loved this place & service was fantastic. Toscana, food not good and service was very slow. Breakfast at Toscana, not good on the few occasions we went - cold food, now considering it opens at 7am and the times we experienced this we were there approx 7.15am...I think this needs addressed. We opted for room service most days after this and an odd morning at the Lobster House were food was cooked fresh. It would be fab if this was open at 8am instead of 9am though. Pizza oven @ the SOL Bar we loved. What a great feature. Lunch at Grill was pretty good. We enjoyed each meal we had & finally lunch at Toscana, again not a fan.

Room - this was definitely a plus for us, we really did love the room here it was fantastic one of the nicest we have stayed in, on our travels to Mexico. Loved the shower too! Housekeeping/turndown service always done.

Entertainment - Cant comment on this of a daytime as never took part but the nightly entertainment is a good effort, most of the shows we seen weren’t to our taste, however I do like the fact they have bands come in to sing etc it really is a good idea as most resorts we have been to tend to get very quiet at night and that is a negative for us so this was good. I would like to say it’s such a fab idea to do the Rock n Burger days at the beach, we enjoyed this so much, it’s such a good idea.

To sum it up we had such a fab time and any negatives I have mentioned above we took in our stride and it certainly did not hinder our experience at EPM. We would definately return to this resort in the future and would say we probably favour this resort to their Riviera Cancun location just due to the fact we prefer the modern accomodations.

Any questions, please PM me.

Karen

This was our first time in Cancun and to an all-inclusive resort, so we have nothing to compare this to, but we loved our stay!! The grounds were well kept and clean, the service was top-notch, and the food was delicious! We enjoyed the on-resort activities which included archery, biking, target shooting, nightly shows, and theme nights. The karoake bar/nightclub is small, but was still fun. The resort is a drive from the main part of Cancun and somewhat isolated, so doing excursions may take some time. We weren't interested in excursions or ruins, but there are vendors in the main lobby with information for those that may want to. Honestly, who would want to spend time away from this paradise! We stayed in the two story oceanfront suite with rooftop terrace. I would request a corner room so that you have less neighbors, we stayed in building 8b and loved it. We really wanted an ocean view, however, we probably would not get the two-story suite again. We honestly never used the rooftop terrace, however, this may be fun if you have a group of friends over. The room and view were excellent, as these rooms are located on the top floor. In addition to the rooftop private pool, there was also an in-room jacuzzi just off the balcony with windows you can open up to the view. Very romantic and peaceful. The other benefit of an ocean-view room is the excellence club, which I would recommend going for! You get a private lobby serving top-shelf alcohol, and free appetizers all-day. We would often make the walk back to the excellence lobby just to get our margaritas! Also we spent about half of our time in the designated Excellence club pool area and beach because we found them to be quieter and more accomodating. The swim-up rooms aren't as bad as I thought they would be, but yes, there are iguanas and they are slightly less private, but you won't have people walking by your door or anything like that. In addition, I would recomment Agave for great Mexican food, and Chez Isabelle. We will definitely come back! We had a great stay!! I can't say enough about this place! Did I mention it was adults-only? Definitely what you need if you want a romantic getaway!! No spring-break vibe here at all, though there were some festive wedding parties during our stay.

We visited EPM May 25 - June 2. We used Cancun Transfer & booked VIP service and they did an excellent job on arrival and departure. We would use Cancun Transfers again.

On arrival at EPM we were quickly escorted to the Excellence Club for check in which was quick and easy. We were taken to our Club room 8167 which was a disappointment due to the lack of an oceanview. From the Club room we could not see the ocean. We explained our concern to Hector and the next day we were relocated to room 9352 which has a geat view. We feel that the advisements for ocean view club rooms is a somewhat deceitful.

We enjoyed all the extras that come with the club experience and we would not have been happy here if we didn't book the Club. All the staff at Club pool 8 & pool 9 are great! We felt they provided excellence service! We felt the bar service at the swim up bar was boarder line poor. It appeared they are very much under staffed and some of the staff were a little rude. Slow service taking 20 minutes for a drink.

The food was great, the best of any all inclusive that we have been to. We ate a lot of fish & alway fresh. Toscana was great for breakfast with lots of options and good service. We ate at all of the restaurants and our favorites were Spice, Chez, Basmati and Agave! All staff at the restaurants were great.

The grounds are beautiful & well maintained daily!

Our relocated room 9352 was nice with a a great view. Maid service over all did a good job!

The gym and spa were average, not the best but also not the worst.

We were EPM to celebrate my husband's 50th Birthday. We were surprised that how many people were on their honeymoons and how many people for there for weddings. In doing research I thought the median age was 40 - 60 which was not the case. The average ages appeared to be 20 - 30.

We had a good time but would most likely not return. I think for the price we have been to other all inclusive that provide nicer accommodations and over all best service. Again a good trip but not a great trip but more like an average trip.

We had only been to one all-inclusive (Sandals Grand St. Lucia) prior to this, so the bar had been set pretty low for our expectations from all-inclusives. Everything impressed us at Excellence. Beautiful grounds and lobby, extensive pool. We were in the excellence club which I think was worth the extra money (private beach, pool, ocean views, private lounge). Our room was very high end, large, great balcony. Liquor selection blew sandals out of the water. Service and friendliness of the staff was also exceptional. They were all incredibly helpful and were happy to help. Food was also better than sandals, French and Italian restaurant being the best. Only bad meal we had was at the Mexican restaurant, overcooked food. I'm not much of an all-inclusive guy, but I would go back here in a second.

I have just come back from an 11 night honeymoon. I won't bore you with all the details, all I have to say is that this place is amazing!
Went for a couples spa treatment and it was money well spent. Don't let the price put you off, it is worth every penny!

Please don't listen to the negative reviews on here, I honestly don't know where they stayed as it wasn't at EPM. Can't wait to return for my anniversary next year!!!

Room Tip: Block 7 - Close to all pools and bars but far enough so its quiet

We have just returned from an amazing 11 nights stay at epm for our honeymoon. I cannot fault this place at all. On arrival we were greeted with a cool towel and champagne. Check in was quick and stress free, Hector took our cases and showed us to our room explaining whilst explaining where each restaurant were on the way. Our room was 7222 with sea views, Hector also got lucky that day, thought I gave him 60 pesos then realised it was 60 dollars not bad for taking bags to my room.

ROOMS. Excellent rooms beds were so comfy loved the bed on the balcony for an afternoon nap and in room equally as comfy at night. the shower were amazing loved the fact i could watch the wife having a shower while chilling out with a corona flicking through channel 49 and 50.After spiking my fellow english honeymooner in the next room with a viagra, it was nice knowing that the rooms were sound proof.

RESTAURANTS. we did toscana every morning which was buffet with an amazing range of food never bored, all the other restaurants were al carte and exceptional, the only 1 we didn't do was lobster house personal preference kept us away.

BARS. A big thank you to MIGUEL,GUSTAVO,MARIA,JAVA you were all amazing and never saw me short of southern comfort with sprite. miguel your chicharito man utd top is on route, the only criticism i could say about the entertainment is that its more accommodating for the americans, after watching the shows for the first week they are repeated the following week after. I think it should be 2 weeks of different shows then repeated.

OVERALL. the resort is immaculate the staff work so hard to keep it looking perfect, food, drink and weather nothing could be faulted. I'd like to say a big thank you also to Ricky,Carla,Rose,Tina,Steve,Nadine,Sue,Chuck,Kelly,Amy,Alan,Rachel,Michael(viagra man)and claire. WOW i'm popular THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR HONEYMOON SPECIAL!!!!!

DO NOT HESITATE IN BOOKING TO GO TO THIS AMAZING RESORT SPANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: blocks 7&8 are most central with great views
