So - from the 2nd day of our stay, we started to plan our return visit. Do you really need to read on?
We stayed here the last week of October. Everything was perfect. We chose the private car transportation from the airport. The sweetest driver! Our check in was very quick and we enjoyed lunch at "the Grill" while we waited for our room to be prepared since we arrived early. Compared to other All Inclusive Resorts (sounds like 'mandels' and sounds like 'bub bed') there was no annoying paper bracelet involved. We just gave the hostesses throughout the resort our room number and everything was smooth.
I could not believe our room. I did extensive research (tons of hours on YouTube, Trip advisor, Facebook, emails, etc) and I was still impressed by our room. I requested building 8 and got it. I emailed the concierge, Jesse, several annoying times, and he always responded quickly. The room was perfect. Clean, organized, cool. They set up a romantic scene with swan-shaped towels on the bed and rose petals and champagne for us on our special trip. We had a nice view of pool and other main buildings. But because the pools are closed by 8pm, there was never a problem with noise. Most of our room time was spent on the veranda. There was a table with two chairs plus a lounge seat for two which was way more comfortable than I expected. I had my morning V8 and coffee right there. What a dream way to start the day. (Note to self: start every morning in Cancun.) It looked like the pools and hot tubs were maintained daily from our room view.
Our room was furnished with plenty of vanity items for the bath and shower that seemed to be replaced daily. Great big comfy robes and slippers. It's always a great sign when the entre room, floor to celling looks and feels clean. The bathroom was gorgeous and had two different shower heads. 4 people could easily fit in that shower. There was even a space to sit and a window where you could look out into the bedroom area.
The room came with a mini fridge that included sodas and juices, Coronas, wines, cookies and chips. PLUS = there were full size bottles of Rum, Vodka, Gin, Wine, and Tequila!! All included in this basic room! So dangerous! Who needs to leave the room?
We quickly chartered a private fishing trip at the nearby Marina through the concierge, Vilma. This only took about 15 minutes. The concierges we dealt with were Vilma and Jesse. They, along with all staff here, spoke English enviable to most English only speakers back home!!! So professional!
We didn't get a chance to go to all the restaurants. We had breakfast daily at the Toscana buffet. Different sausages and other items daily, lots of fresh fruit, omelet stations, several kinds of breads and little pastries and Mexican style dishes as well. The wait staff kept refilling our coffee cups. The only complaint is that the condensation drips on the tables by the windows. You really need to try all the juices. So good! I could not stop drinking the green juice and vegetable juice. There is also a Bloody Mary and Mimosa station! Maybe b/c it was off-season, but there was not a crowd at this spot. There is also at least one other restaurant that served breakfast. We just didn't get to it. For those more conservative eaters, there was also cereal and yogurt. My favorite breakfast became freshly sliced raw tuna and salmon with guacamole, tomato and bread. So refreshing.
We walked around the grounds a few times and it was always spotless. Your drink order will be taken from any pool or beach seating throughout the resort. A special mention to Ever is needed here. He was so friendly and doted on us each time he saw us. He brought us perfect drinks and quickly. He, like all the staff, appeared to be happy to wait on us. We have never experienced this, at home in the US or anywhere else. (We went to an All Inclusive in Jamainca - SANDALS WHITEHOUSE, and the staff here at Excellence could train them for days on customer service). Ever had the sweetest demeanor I have ever known. We saw him several times speeding around with a tray of drinks and beautiful warm smile for everyone. We were impressed by his hard work and generosity. He inspired us.
All the staff here make you feel lucky to be alive. They all treat you like they appreciate their work and jobs. They reminded me of how much better I could be at my job. They were all amazing. All day, you will hear: "Good Morning", "Good Afternoon", "Good Evening". The warm welcome never ends here!
Maybe our favorite spot was the restaurant that directly faces the ocean. It is open on all sides and closest to outdoor live music. It is either called the GRILL or the Lobster House. We got to know Armando who runs the restaurant. HE made us feels like STARS!!!!! We reached out to him to let him know how impressed we were and he kept in touch with us throughout our trip. He was so gracious and professional. He runs this restaurant so nicely. While the staff is professional, they are also warm and friendly and allowed you to feel comfortable and casual. One day, Armando told us to come back for dinner. We did. We were welcomed with a table just feet from the ocean, decorated with candles and rose petals, etc. This table was waiting for us. It was so special what he did this for us. He remembered my partner's name and made sure that we were treated with priority. The waiter, Freddy, was adorable! So much fun! What a great night and Special Dessert!!!!
We also brought our catch from the "Heavenly" at Chac Chi Marina here for lunch on another day. They prepared our fish a la ceviche first and then grilled two ways. So delicious. I can never make fish taste this good!!! Great staff. Armando also made sure to see us and send us an excellent waitress during the Halloween party named, Heydi. Heydi kept bringing us drinks with a sweet smile all night long during the part. Armando is another great example of why this resort is special.
The fishing trip we took at Chac Chi Marina was on Wednesday on the Heavenly. The manager was Daphne and she was very sweet and helpful. The crew was Cuco, Oliver, and Pepe. They did all the work and then handed us the reels once the fish were hooked. We caught 2 amber jacks and 2 trigger fish. We arranged for a car service to and from the marina. As soon as we got off the boat, the driver and Daphne were right there waiting for us! We didn't have to look around or wait. Top notch service all the way. The captain was also very friendly and talked to my partner a lot about the fishing industry.
We ate at Spice and Basmati and totally thrilled at both locations. Here, and everywhere else, the staff acted as if they waited for us all day and were happy to see us. The waiter at Basmati offered to make us a special meal the following evening, but sadly we could not make it. But - just the idea that someone would offer to do more than they need to just to make us happy was such a treat.
We mainly hung out at the pool nearest our room. One day we laid out on the bed (yes, bed - canopy bed) on the beach. Gorgeous. Great views of the ocean and all the water sports. Great service there. We were close to the Pizza grill and the swim up bar from there.
One day we each painted a ceramic piece. There was a little stand near our building. We painted the basics and the young man and woman who run the stand, complete it and make it beautiful. We paid per the price of the peace. Well worth it and totally fun!!!
They also had daily activities at the resort. For example, close to the bed where we lounged, was the Bull Riding contest and the Burrito party! There was also a fun Halloween party on our last night with a Michael Jackson show! We also enjoyed an acrobatic show and comedian. Never a boring moment.
I am pretty sure that both Sandals and Club Med are pricier. We stayed at both. This is the top of the line. I did the research and it paid off. We also spoke to a couple of other couples. One stayed at the other location in Cancun and preferred this one. We heard several people say they paid more elsewhere and preferred this location. We have been to Florida, Hawaii, Spain, Ireland, California, etc. This was a dream.
Oh - here is one more complaint. I just CANNOT shake this PLACE!!!!!
Also, if you are willing to pay for this kind of service, you should also tip accordingly. The pay rate in Mexico is offensive. A little tip goes a little way, so show your appreciation with your DOLLARS. I could talk about this place all day!
