Villa Blanc Marine
Ranked #1 of 3 Bourbourg B&B and Inns
Reviewed 7 October 2012

As I was looking for a hotel or B&B for my last night in France before catching the ferry at Dunkirk the next morning I looked through all the places in Dunkirk, feeling a little dispirited, I must admit, as they all seemed like stop-off points before getting the ferry and I wanted to be at a place with character. I am so glad I widened the search as I discovered Villa Blanc Marine in Bourbourg, run by the wonderful Regine and her husband Patrick - who speak very little English but you can book on-line and you can get by with hand signals. The B&B is very spacious inside and the rooms clean and very comfortable. Our breakfast was delicious in a room with a lovely view of the garden that Regine said we could have explored if it had not been raining so heavily. The perfect place to stay, just a fifteen minute drive to the ferry terminal at Dunkirk. We will be going back.

Room Tip: Be sure to book the garage if you can, only three euros extra and very handy.

Other than having difficulty finding Villa Blanc Marine because our Satnav didn't recognise the name of the road (make sure you get the old street name when booking), our stay was faultless.
We pre-booked parking which proved to be a stroke of good fortune as it turned out to be the owner's lockable garage and we're unable to conceal the contents of our vehicle (which were plentiful as it was the return leg of our trip and we'd stopped at the Le Creuset factory shop).
The welcome was warm and our bedroom huge, comfortable and tastefully decorated.
We had booked dinner which we ate in the delightful dining room with the owners and two other couples who were staying over (Dutch and Belgian) - it couldn't be faulted. A very enjoyable evening indeed.
Breakfast was plentiful and up to the same super standard as dinner, served with a smile by our hosts. It's a smooth operation run with warm and efficiency.

We didn't explore the garden because it was raining, but what we could see was lovely - and very unexpected in the town centre.

Bourbourg is between Calais and Dunkerque so it is ideal for either ferry port. Our ferry was leaving from the former and it took us just under half an hour to get there (driving slowly in the rain).
We won't hesitate to re-book this B&B when using the ferry, but my fear is that it will be so popular that we won't get in unless booked well in advance! It's good, very good.

Room Tip: All rooms have either street or garden views. Ours was street-facing but we heard no noise... I don...

My family of four stayed here before our ferry crossing between Dunquerque, France and Dover, England. We were pleased enough with the lodging and village, we stayed another night after our return from Dover. The family room is large enough for four. There are two double beds and the room is large enough to give everyone space. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which is an added convenience. A large, flat-screen TV is mounted to the wall. All in French, but that was ok. Parking was not a problem.

The village is nice and there are a number of restaurants within walking distance. Regine was very helpful in that matter. Note that she mostly speaks French. However, between my very limited French and her limited English, we communicated well, and she is a very nice and accommodating lady. She serves a continental breakfast (coffee, tea, juice, yoghurt, breads, etc) that is included in the price.

The ferry to Dover is only about a 15 min drive. We were glad we chose the B & B over some of the lodging choices in Dunquerque.

We found it very pleasant and enjoyed a sleep in a room in a beautiful historic house. It went beyond our expectations, as we were expecting a simple reception. The breakfast was delicious. Compliments to the friendly hostess Regine and her husband Patrick, who also told us an interesting bit of history about the house. We had a very fine and interesting stay. We definitely recommend you this Bed and Breakfast!
