Hotel de Suhard
Reviewed 8 April 2013

We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel de Suhard and loved every minute of our stay. Our room was the Nicholas Chatrier - a beautifully decorated room on the first floor with 3 windows overlooking the garden. Bathroom was sumptuous with masses of white towels. We arrived after a long drive feeling rather frayed and were met with a lovely cup of tea and biscuits from Joel and Josiane. Ate at the local Café/restaurant de la paix - simple but very nice. Herbal tea on our return from the restaurant with J and J - and a good practice of my rusty French - we mentioned we would like to do some walking the next day and hey presto, at breakfast, some walking books and details of local manor house visits. Nothing too much trouble.
Lovely croissants, home made jams, their own pressed apple juice - all set up at a pretty table in the salon. We ate at the auberge de 3J in Noce in the evening - lovely meal but a witch of a Madame - made us feel it was a complete imposition for us to be eating at her restaurant! Food excellent but she could do with some PR lessons (too late I fear).
The weather was arctic so we couldn't spend any time in the lovely garden at the Suhard, but hope to return in the summer.
All in all, a memorable stay. One of the best in France!

The most perfect end to a great holiday in France. My three adult daughters, my wife and I decided to break our journey home from the south of France and we were fortunate enough to choose the Hotel Suhard. Josiane and Joel were the perfect hosts and despite our poor French speaking abilities made us feel welcome and relaxed.
The hotel itself is a wonderful building that has been restored with an artists eye for style and a perfectionist eye for detail.
It is, simply, the nicest hotel I have had the pleasure to visit. I can't wait to visit it again!!!

We stayed one night on our cycle to Paris. After a day on the saddle it was very refreshing to arrive at the very comfortable and well appointed Hotel de Suhard. Our host was very welcoming and helpful. Belleme is a delightful town, well worth a visit.

We initially booked for only one night on our drive back to the uk from the Gironde. However, the weather wasn't great so we decided to head back a day early. We called the hotel to book an extra night and they politely enabled this for us.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We stayed in two different rooms, both very different but both absolutely lovely. The whole place has been tastely renovated and decorated. The owners are both very helpful, charming, lovely people. They could not do enough for us, and were very knowledgable with the local area and were very helpful with helping us choose restaurants. The hotel serves a lovely breakfast and also has a magnificent garden. The local village of Belleme is also charming.
I would definitely return to stay here again........10/10

We are always looking for the romantically decorated B&B for a decent price/quality. Hotel de Suhard totally responded to our expectations. Extremely well decorated, very comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast was served in the living room where a table for two was set in this "decoration magazine" environment. The home made marmelades with all the great natural products provided made it the perfect breakfast.

Additionaly, when looking at what to do in the "Le Perche" region, walks, biking trails, "Manoir" visits, Joel and Josiane are guiding you with maps, books and personal advice.

Finally, for those who will be looking at the pictures in this site or the official site, they are definitely a fair representation of reality, no surprise.

If you are looking for a relaxing and discrete hideaway retreat less than two hours from Paris this is the place to go. In the village of Belleme, this beautiful ("so deliciously French" would the american say) 17th century house is worth the visit in itself. Tastefully decorated with antiques by a woman tired of the business life in Paris, everything is on a great setting there. The rooms have a taste for French history but with all the modern amenities (flat screen TV, DVD players, Wi Fi) and good taste (Durance en Provence scented candles...). The foyer is filled with books and you feem at home right away. The breakfast was one of the best we ever had (she presses her own Apple juice, the jams are mostly home made and the croissant were plain delicious). She obviously does not price her rooms expensively enough and I told her to immeditaley increase her prixe by 20% since there is no lasting business if she does not make money in the end ! There are only 5 rooms and this is a perfect place for a romantic or a relaxing time. No wonders many French magazines have recently featured "Hote de Suhard" as a gem, this is totally deserved. Three thumbs up !!! :-)

What more can I say? We booked here for a one night stopover and we were not disappointed. Our hosts Josiane and Joel were such lovely people. On meeting them, we were even more impressed, they made our whole stay extremely enjoyable and we wished we could have stayed longer. We arrived early evening, however most of the local restaurants were booked up, prior to arriving Joel sent us the menu for one of the local restaurants, we ordered our meal which was wonderful. We dined in what could only be described as romantic surroundings. The meal was accompanied by wine from Joel's cellar. Hotel de Suhard is situated in a wonderfully picturesque village. On stepping inside the hotel, you are greeted with such tastefully decorated accommodation and beautiful furnishings. Our suite like the rest of the hotel was tastefully decorated. What an enjoyable stay. Thank you Josiane and Joel, you are such wonderful people! And thank you Joel for helping me to improve my French, I've still a long way to go but hopefully the next time we visit, it will have improved.
