“Historical hotel with atmosphere - staff struggled to cope at times.”
Reviewed 9 June 2009

Our first visit to this hotel - booked double room with breakfast for 1 night. Reception closed on arrival(5 pm). Had to find bar staff to book in - required to pay on arrival, which we did and then she forgot to log this fact which caused confusion on departure!
Hotel was VERY quiet - in fact we may have been the only guests there. The pub side was busy though. Built in 1351 the hotel has a very olde-world feel to it with low beams and small doors.
Room clean with ample facilities - not the best of views - the kitchen and a couple of abandoned shopping trolleys!
Booked a table for dinner - food excellent and not too expensive, but the single barman struggling to cope with the restaurant and the bar at the same time, and prospective restaurant customers left to eat elsewhere because they got tired of waiting and yet we were they only diners.
Breakfast was excellent(full English is free at weekends)
Ample car parking space.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. Ate in the restaurant in the evening the food was excellent, very traditional home cooked grub.

The room was very clean and well presented. Plenty of towels and nice biccies in the hospitality tray.

Lots of parking and the beer was good too according to my partner!!!!

The very friendly (and very pretty) barmaid checked me in and told me all I needed to know.

I had to find my own way to my room as she seemed to be the only staff member there.

The room was generally fine, clean and comfortable. I only have a few quibbles - the bed wasn't particularly comfortable and very squeaky, the plastic beaker in the bathroom was dirty (it was the disposable type - why not provide new ones?) and the toilet roll holder was located on the wall behind your back at shoulder height. You need to be a contortionist to wipe your bum! Also the shower was extremely cramped.

I was the first person into the dining room for breakfast ( well it was a Sunday morning) but it took at least 5 minutes for anyone to appear. The included English breakfast was passable except for the sausages, which were melt in the mouth foul.

I paid £30 for a single including breakfast on a Saturday night, which I thought was pretty OK really. Would stay again.

Well i stayed in the little thatch for 1 night as i am usually on business in Gloucester, the hotel looked bautifull from the outside and the room was generally ok, just the price for what i was getting was nothing out 2 special.

The bed was nothing special and not the best comfort i would expect.

Check out was confusing and staff were not the friendliest considering the price i was paying....

I personally would go to the holiday inn or something as they say, you pay for what you get....
