“Four Pillars 5 Stars”
Reviewed 21 March 2014 via mobile

I've just spent 4 nights at this lively hotel.
The rooms are adequate but don't take that as a slight, there is everything you would need and more.
Everywhere is clean and tidy and the bathrooms are great.
The grounds are fantastic although I didn't get any time to walk around they looked good from my room.
The on site gym and spa looked first rate but again I was working in the room so didn't get a chance to sample them. I'm told by others that the pool isn't really made for people expecting to do lap after lap but to relax in. There are jacuzzis too and steam rooms.
The best part of the hotel are the staff and a close second is the food.
The staff are very professional and will go out if their way to accommodate you.
The food is superb, and every meal I had, be it from one of the restaurants or from the bar menu was first class.
I highly recommend the Cotswold Club Sandwich. A triple layered turkey, bacon and egg mayonnaise monster.
Would I stay again? In a heart beat! But I'd be bringing my wife next time.

Following a deal on TravelZoo we decided to book a 2 night break. Upon arrival we were really impressed by the grounds and what a stunning view. We spent our first evening in the 'pub' and had a nice meal where the waiter was informative and friendly and was pleasant. The 2nd evening we went to the bistro / brasserie. First point - it's the same menu regardless where you are!! How about change it up and not just the way you serve potato. The service was shocking and staff had no direction or clue and when reported we had our drinks bill refunded (I had a coke my wife a wine) big whoop! Sort your service out. This tarnished our stay completely and we nearly drove home that evening. The breakfast was average and no thought into it, poor quality and greasy even the pastry was poor. I love a good breakfast but when your quality for a 4 star is worse than premier inn you have problems - we gave the breakfast a miss on the 2nd day it was so poor and drive home. The room was 'ok' no air con so be warned when the weather gets warm & the walls wafer thin. We paid £99 per person, received credit for food and believe the deal represents reasonable value however the service really let's this place down - poorly trained staff , mostly very young and students I would not return or recommend anyone to stay here unless your on a tight budget. No reply based on any of my complaints or feedback form so why bother?

Our Promotional Offer for 2 persons proved a very popular choice with our visitors. The promotion as partly described here offered our guests a two night stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Dinner is taken in the hotels brasserie where guests have the choice of a set three course menu or a specified ‘spend’ against our a la carte menu. We do make the offer for our guests to dine instead at The Old Boathouse pub on-site but the specified ‘spend’ is less due to the separate menu pricing at the pub. We are pleased that our guest found the staff at the pub to be pleasant, informative and friendly.

The hotels brasserie who’s staff have extensive and on-going ‘on the job training’ are able to offer 5 choices of starter, 5 choices of main course and 5 choices of dessert in their set menu and the a la carte menu offers 10 choices of starter, 13 choices of main course with as many as 8 different side orders and 9 choices of desert as well as an ample selection of after-dinner beverages and full wine list.

Breakfast served in the hotels brasserie is hot and cold buffet style as well as a choice of ‘made to order dishes’ from our breakfast menu. All sections are available via room service and should our guests choose to take dinner in their rooms, we also offer a full room service menu.

Like many four star hotels, we do not offer air conditioning. It shoud also be noted that the structural design of our current build, does not allow for air-conditioning to be installed. We are aware that in the heat of the summer some of the bedrooms facing the water can become quite warm.

Without air conditioning in the bedrooms we have attempted to assist with the warmth by putting a fan into every bedroom so that our guests can choose to have greater air circulation.

We try and tread the careful line between comfort and convenience and the adverse ecological and environmental impact of some modern technologies. As such we have to make the best environmentally conscious yet commercially sensible decision at the same time paying close attention to our guest’s comments.

We will continue to search for the correct solution to the impact our rare hot summers day can have on the bedrooms to ensure our guests comfort is fully considered.

We are happy to take all forms of feedback on-board and should our guest choose to contact us directly to discuss their individual feedback in further detail, having completed one of our ‘Guest Feedback Questionnaires’ already, we would be more than happy to discuss any concerns further.

We booked a spa break for two over a weekend, not realising it was half term! The hotel is huge, and it was full, mostly with families with children. On the whole, this was not an issue, but using the pool and steam rooms etc in the afternoons was a problem - there simply was no room to get in and the noise was deafening. The spa was also lovely, with a small champagne bar, however on our second evening, there was a huge, noisy hen party there, which somewhat spoiled my relaxing facial experience! The restaurant was extremely busy, so booking a table was critical - our evening meal on the night we arrived was nice enough, but definitely felt like mass catering rather than a great dining experience. Breakfast was included and it was excellent, with a fantastic choice of hot and cold items - enough to keep any member of the family happy.
Our room had a beautiful lake view, but be warned, the public deck wraps all the way round the ground floor, so privacy is limited unless you keep the curtains shut! The room was clean, nicely maintained and functional, rather than luxurious, but the walls are very thin - we could hear every word of the conversation going on next door!

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors have more privacy and would presumably be quieter!

We are pleased that our guests enjoyed their Spa break and found the Spa to be ‘lovely’.

It is regrettable that perhaps the pool was not as relaxing as we would have hoped during the busy ‘school holiday period’. The pool itself was busy between 3-6pm with families whose children enjoy using the pool for allocated children’s swim times.

We are pleased the room was enjoyable and that our guests enjoyed the beautiful lake view from one of our ground floor rooms.

I stayed at this hotel during a conference. I was looking forward to a couple of days by the lakeside, but the hotel was a let down. The room, although reasonably large, was much as I would expect for an airport hotel. While generally clean, except for the stains on the carpet, the amenities were basic. The WiFi connection, which was essential, was weak, intermittent and slow so I had to download documents for the meeting by connecting my laptop to my phone. The restaurant was okay, although the staff seemed to be rather amateurish. The food was edible, but nothing special and there seemed to be an obsession with tandoori cod as this appeared on the dinner menu and on the lunch menu the next day. Breakfast was okay, but again, nothing special. Overall, I was disappointed with the quality of this hotel. It was bearable for a short business trip, but I wouldn't want to spend any leisure time there.

We thank our conference guest for taking the time to provide a review of their opinion online.

We are sorry that the room was not enjoyable and that this particular guests seemed to experience issues with our complimentary Wi-Fi

We are sorry that this guest seemed not to enjoy the stylistic choices that so many of our guests have commented as excellent but we hope that the differences in each of the hotels in our group would provide them with a building style more suited to their tastes.

Stayed one night, stains on duvet, and pillow cases, marks over the walls, no flannels, cold room, no blankets supplied.
Booked a table in restaurant for 6, waited 15 mins before waiter came over, then another 15 mins for our drinks, and was told its because they had alot of people at bar, and they had to wash up some glasses, to serve ours!!! Ordered Burgers, which where the worst taste ever, felt like i was eating a mouth full of herbs, and there was black bits in them. The hand made chips where frozen chips, and where full of oil.The coleslaw had a strange taste as well. so 2 of us just couldnt eat it, even though we where very hungry. The meatballs my son had where grisly. No apology from the manager, he didnt even come to our table.
We then went to the pub next door, to have a dessert, only to be told the kitchen was closed, and it was 9.30pm, even though it said 10pm! We was sitting at a table, when the lights where then turned up, and when i asked the man at the bar if he could turn them back down, he said he couldnt, as it would turn all of them off! we was made to feel that they wanted to close up. It says its a pub, but its just a large sitting area, with nothing in it, no tv, no machines, no music.
In the morning, went to use the pool at about 9.45, and it was full of ladies doing exercises, and no area to swim. considering we had to book out our room at 11am, there was no time to use this facility.
So disapointing

We are sorry to learn that our guest identified issues within one of our bedrooms. Had we been aware of such issues during their stay, we would have been able to investigate these concerns in further detail and ensure that our guest had a much more enjoyable break with us. For that we apologise.

Our brasserie, regardless of advance reservations, is a very popular food outlet in the hotel and it is not very often that guests have to wait to be seated. Our bar lounge also proved to be a popular area of the hotel on the evening of their stay so we are sorry for any delays in service and that our food, often commented on as ‘excellent’ was not to this particular guests taste or indeed our regular opening hours for food service.

Occasionally, Spa6 members have an aqua-aerobics class and at such times, use our hydro-therapy pool. The class is only in session for approx 1 hour and all other facilities in Spa6 are still available for hotel residents and visitors to the Spa throughout this short period. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to the family who have chosen to review our facilities here.

We went on a 2 night Amazon break which was good value for money . The staff were friendly and helpful . Our room whilst being basic had a wonderful view of the lake . The hydro spa was clean and very relaxing with good facilities . The restaurant produces satisfactory food for dinner and a good choice for breakfast .

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the lake

Just spent a Sunday night at this flat pack hotel which has somehow been given a 4 star rating. The rooms are of average standard and I couldn't believe I had to fill my kettle up with the water from the bathroom?? The Spa is tiny. But after our basic treatment we were planning on relaxin swim until the whole place was filled with children in armbands screaming the place down, just like the reception. This place is only suitable for the travelling businessman, definitely not a romantic break. After looking at the dinner area, the low level travelodge table and chairs we decided to eat in town. However we were treated to breakfast which, although varied, consisted of the lowest standard of breakfast ingredients I've ever tasted. Avoid and try somewhere in the proper Cotswolds. Awful.
