“Great location, very easy and comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

I stayed here for a long weekend in spring 2014 with a small group of friends. Some were staying in the hotel, some with friends nearby, and some of us have children and some (including me) do not. It's a beautiful location and it was a very pleasant and easy place to stay in a mixed group like this.

My room was spacious and comfortable - no complaints at all! In particular the shower was lovely. Breakfast was good and the bar, spa and adjacent restaurant all good too. Service in the bar and at breakfast was a little patchy at busy times but all staff were friendly and pleasant and some were excellent.

The hotel was a really good base for a very enjoyable few days in the sunny Cotswolds!

Room Tip: Consider a lake-view room

We thank our guest for their review regarding their May 2014 stay with a group of friends.
We are pleased that like many others, the group found that we have a beautiful location with comfortable and spacious rooms and that they were able to enjoy the complimentary access to Spa6 as well as using our bars and eateries.

The hotel is in a great location for exploring the local area with really friendly and helpful staff. This is a very large hotel that accommodates tour groups and functions such as weddings and as such it can be extremely busy. At its busiest the dining areas cannot cope which results in you having to wait for a table. The spa and pool areas can be extremely crowded towards the end of the day.

The rooms are clean and well equipped but are more akin to a 3* rather than a 4* - if you value sleep quality ask for a twin as the beds are not great for sharing. The ground floor rooms which open onto the decking are great other than the decking is a public area which means you always have people walking past your room.

The hotel does not have airconditioning which means the loft room are extremely hot.

Room Tip: Avoid the loft rooms!

I have just returned from a business conference which took place over two days at the Four Pillars. Overall, I was very disappointed with the general feel of the hotel and because of some specific issues I experienced. Before the negative, I should recognise that the food served at the main conference dinner was excellent; the raspberry creme brulee one of the best desserts I have eaten for a long time! Unfortunately, this was overshadowed by the following: the signage to my room (which was about 3 blocks away from the main reception) was very confusing. The arrows randomly pointed in directions which took you either into the wrong block or to a dead end. Then when I finally found my room it was "incorporated" into another and this was only clear in small writing underneath that other room's number. Confused? So was I. It got worse when I had to find my way back after dinner that night. The lighting was extremely poor which was not particularly inspiring from the point of view of guest security. The layout of the hotel felt awkward. On arrival at the conference I had to complete a pre-check-in registration form. This gave the option for a newspaper in the morning so I indicated my preference. In my experience these are usually complimentary at any decent hotel. There was no indication on the form I would be charged for my choice of newspaper yet this is exactly what happened on check-out. When I expressed my surprise and concern to the receptionist (also flagging up the other issues above) she became politely argumentative. If the situation and my concerns were dealt with differently it may have sweetened the sourness of my overall experience. Disappointing, as this hotel could really be something special with its excellent Cotswold Lake surroundings and spacious guest rooms.

We are pleased that our conference guest enjoyed the food that was presented, particularly the raspberry crème brulee.

Whilst we have never had any issues with the ample signage we offer to direct guests around the hotel, we are sorry if our guest found that this was inadequate or confusing and again, we are sorry for any confusion with billing or the pre-registration check-in arranged by the conference organisers as this happens to be standard in may hotels to enable check-in to be faster and smoother with large groups.

We stayed in a 2-bed apartment with balcony. It was extremely spacious and great value. The kitchen equipment was rather basic (no mixing bowls, weighing scales, serving bowls etc) but everything modern, clean and very comfortable. The spa was perfect for a relaxing massage and swim (we avoided the hours when children allowed in the pool). Pre-booked breakfast great value but the brasserie seems a bit 'up-market service station' to be attractive enough for dinner. We ate in the Old Boathouse which is a nice informal pub style restaurant. Food was excellent. The hotel bar is not designed to encourage you to stay long. More a through space at the end of reception. Overall, a great stay in terms of location, accommodation and facilities. Not a luxury or boutique experience, but restful and good value.

Room Tip: The apartments offer so much more than a standard hotel room. Balconies really add a touch of outsi...

We are very happy that our guest found our self catering two bed apartment to be extremely spacious, modern, clean, comfortable and great value for money and that they were able to take advantage of the complimentary access to Spa6 and that they chose to dine at the pub on-site, The Old Boathouse, finding the food to be excellent alongside our facilities and location.

Spent just the weekend here with friends. The resort is right on the lake, with great views from the rooms or apartments. The food is great and even better sitting on the deck of the Old boathouse. The spa and heated pools are fantastic facilities. Overall, a great weekend spent.

Spent 3 nights here, the hotel itself is situated in a beautiful location, right on the lake with most rooms having a view of the water. I was with my company in a training event mid week so didn't get a choice of room, it was large room with usual items but the single beds were very small.

Food was ok in the main restaurant, normal conference affair. The food at the gala dinner we had was extremely poor however.

Overall staff are excellent and it's well set up for large conferences, try to avoid a mid week stay to ensure you don't get wrapped up in one, rather come at the weekend and enjoy the setting.

Whilst we are sorry to learn that this particular delegate did not enjoy the choices on our menu, the selection was made by the conference organisers who were very pleased with the catering we provided on their behalf.

We came for a wedding and although the location is amazing and apart from the size of the bed the bedroom was brilliant. I must congratulate Lauren in the bar and Henry and Amy in the restaurant for excellent customer service and rest of the staff was adequate however we were generally disappointed. On our first night we had a meal in the restaurant and my partner lives blue (very rare) steaks but the steak that arrived was at best medium rare so she sent it back and the replacement was very weird. Although it looked right there wasn't any blood coming out of it and the explanation from the Assistant Manager about blood drying plates didn't make any sense. So it went back again and she went without. The final straw was that although the Assistant Manager was involved they still put the steak on the bill. The place and staff during the wedding was excellent so I can't understand our previous problems. I don't see us ever staying here ever again.

We thank this couple who attended The Cotswold Water Park Four Pillars Hotel as a wedding guest.
We are already aware that our guest had concerns regarding our steak, one of the few dishes that is difficult to cook to ‘specific requirements based on personal preference’. We apologise for any mix up and disappointment caused, particularly with the billing at the end of the evening on this one occasion.

Whilst we accept that our guest may not choose to stay with us again, we hope that they did enjoy some elements of their stay with us.
