“Going down hill”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2012

A year ago this was my favourite place to go in the North Cotswolds. Sadly since it's massive expansion (now at least double the size) it has lost it's charm and atmosphere. The staff do not seem as bothered and the food also seems to have slipped. There is fierce competition in this area and I fear that the downward trend will continue. A much more dependable option with friendlier more personable staff to boot would be the Horse and Groom in Bourton on the Hill.

Thanks for taking the time to review us. We did have a member of staff who didn't work out around the time of your visit who is now no longer with us and we can only apologise if this was why your experience was affected. Certainly our team here is extremely dedicated and enthusiastic and has just helped us win another award which tells us the food and service are better than ever, not slipping. We hope you might try us again so we can win your heart back.
Just to clarify to readers of your review, our expansion has not "at least doubled" the size of the pub. We only use our new dining room when we are really busy so as to preserve the pub's atmosphere.

Ate New Years Day Lunch here after a good walk in surrounding countryside. We were a party of eight and all enjoyed the food and drink. The staff here have a positive attitude and are very helpful but not fawning, they have a sense of humour too which made the whole experience the best way to spend new years day. The food was well presented and cooked with care.

This was our first visit and our 2 nights were a delight. Firstly our room was all that had been described on their web site -- full of charater and good quality fittings. On the first evening, having been given the choice we decided to have our meal in the bar area, sitting by a roaring log fire. The food and service were excellent and it was a pleasure to see some of the village residents using the pub as "their local".The following evening we eat in the restaurant. Although it has recently been enlarged, they have been able to retain the small cosy atmosphere. Once again the food was great and the Sauvignon Blanc was one of the best we have tasted!

We went to the game evening in November.

There was a booking problem as they got our arrival time wrong, however this was quickly resolved and they were very accommodating.

We had three courses and could not fault them in anyway, I must say my Venison welly was excellent. The only comment I would add was the cheese board was a little light, but for 3 courses all for £26.00 ph great job.

We will be back and back again

Ate here last week with some friends and was very disappointed with the service and food we received. i ordered the pork belly which was meant to come with scollops, which it didnt, and my friends meal was also very badly cooked and bland. The person serving us didnt seem bothered that we weren't happy with our meals so we paid and left. i was so annoyed at our treatment that i later phoned the next day to complain and let them know, however the person i spoke to didnt seem to care either! very disappointing and we certainly wont be returning! i

The food was pretty good too! Limited choice and quite pricey but probably worth it for the quality. Choice of rooms in which to dine includes log fires and lots of beams. Busy pub atmosphere, friendly but still providing
that elusive dining experience.
I look forward to my breakfast and I was not disappointed - freshly squeezed juice, really good coffee and terrific choice. And a smile every morning.

Quintessentially English pub in an idyllic setting - superb range of ales, great staff, excellent food - flavoursome, well prepared with attention to detail, good size portions and good value. Lovely room, clean spacious but hope you like your mattress on the firm side.

Room Tip: Eating in the bar by the fire is a real treat, more relaxing and more inviting
