“Hollow Bottom - Don't you believe it!”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

We were travelling in the UK for three weeks (from Uruguay), and stayed in three marvelous places, all "por casualidad". We dropped in to the HB late one rainy afternoon, and were shown to the Earth Summit room which was perfectly equipped, clean and very comfortable.
Being a little dry inside we adjorned to the bar, grabbed the best seats in front of the fire and settled in. The food was excellent - haggis included - and the service excellent. We even enjoyed the warm english beer!
Everything about this little gem was a winner - we will be back!

This place is a gem. So nice to eat dinner, sleep, eat breakfast in one location. Marvelous dinner.
When the walker who had come down with a cough ordered hot water with honey, the sweet server brought a large glass of hot water, honey and a slice of lemon studded with cloves. Miracle cure?

We stayed here for the second time recently. We wanted to go away for the night, the day after our Wedding and the Hollow Bottom was everything we needed; quiet and comfortable with 5* food.
Our room 'Earth Summit' was fabulous, with a separate sofa and en suite.
The pub is very rustic, traditional and homely, the open fire making it somewhere cosy that you could spend your whole evening.
The food was incredible. I had prawns to start followed by seabass whilst my new husband had crab followed by lamb washed down by a bottle of wine. You would never think to get food of this standard is a country pub, it's more what you'd get in a 5* restaurant.
Breakfast was also impressive, cooked fresh to order with portions that mean you can miss lunch.
We can't wait to come back again and would recommend it to everyone!

Room Tip: We stayed in Earth Summit which was fabulous.

We booked very last minute and got a fantastic deal on the room (Bindaree Room GBP49). Tricky to find the pub without a map or a GPS (we were relying on Google Maps...) but easy to find our way back to the main roads the next morning.

The pub was everything we expected - rustic, charming, fire going, cosy. The food was very good - recommend the haggis! There was a huge selection of cereals and preserves for breakfast, although we found the food a bit greasy - but plentiful!!

The room was comfortable although was more well worn than the photo implied. The bathroom was basic but clean. We would go back for the food, drink and service - but would try a different room.

Room Tip: The Bindaree room is good because it's separate to the main building, but it seemed a bit worn...

Several stays at this place. It gets better and better. We stayed in the Bindaree room independent from the pub (converted coal shed). A great job done! We had our dog with us which was ideal. Huge bed and wet room. Very cosy but spacious. Good value for money. Pub great, food great. All staff amazing especially Fi and Hugh. Nothing is too much trouble for them. You are made welcome the minute you walk in the door. The locals are great too (lively but fun!). Beautiful location for relaxing but near to Stow-on-the-Wold, Winchcombe, Bourton-on-the-Water if you fancy a trip to the shops! All in all a fantastic place. Go on, give it a go!!

Our plans had us staying only one night. We were given a room in a separate building out at the back of the property, i.e. there was only the one room in this small, newer building. That was a really nice touch. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable, reasonably quiet, and had all the amenities one needed. The privacy and sense of seclusion was nice. The downside was the walkway from the parking lot to the main buidling wnt right by our window, which meant having to take care to keep the curtains closed, and the window closed over night.

The staff, as we had come to expect in the Cotswolds, was welcoming, friendly and efficient. We didn't eat supper there, but the breakfast was good enough. We'd definitely stay again.
