What a lovely spot, great views from the garden/terrace, gliders from local club above and a special sunset, good pub atmosphere and a decent drink, the food was excellent and served by pleasant and efficient staff, the rooms in the annex are large, clean, quiet and comfortable, breakfast was good, plenty choice and well presented, happy to return.

A large group of us pre-booked dinner for 4 consecutive evenings in the pubs function room. At their request we also pre-ordered our food for each evening. Sadly despite all of the planning the food took ages to arrive and on one evening two of our group did not receive their main course and another evening one of the group was forgotton. It is a shame as the pub is in a lovely location with a nice beer garden but the kitchen could not cope.

We chose this pub to stay as we needed to be in Stroud for the weekend and wanted a place to stay that was reasonably close, quiet and comfortable with food, real ale and no need to drive afterwards. The Crown scores on all these points. A few days before our stay, we were telephoned to check if we wanted a table for dinner as reservations were mounting up. We did, and we really appreciated the thought. The restaurant was packed all evening and did a number of second sittings. The food was good, and worked well with the real ale on tap. Not all mobile networks have reception. O2 didn't, but there was no problem using the pub phone behind the bar. Great service. The accommodation annex a few steps from the pub itself had all we wanted. It was clean and comfortable with a nice size en suite. We slept like the dead. Breakfast on Sunday morning was available from 8, which was popular. Gloucester Old Spot sausages and black pudding made for an excellent breakfast. This is not a 5 star hotel, but nor is it 5 star prices. Having stayed in quite a few of those, I think the Crown has all the essentials, is good value and we greatly enjoyed our short stay here.

Loved everything about the pub. The building is beautiful, the views are breathtaking, and the food is great! Arrive around sunset, grab a pint, and a bench for an amazing show! When there are more locals than tourists, you know that you are in for a great night!

We booked a night here as I was attending an event in Stroud on the Saturday and the previous places we'd stayed were all booked up. It was a lovely postion, some miles from Stroud out in the countryside, but fine by us. A nice old country pub, lovely and clean everywhere and a good, friendly welcome. We were given a room in the modern ajoining annex, which was clean, comfortable and provided with copious coffee and tea making facilities plus a good bathroom facilities. If you were expecting to stay in a country pub, you might have been a tad disappointed, we weren't as this was the best of both worlds for us. The evening meal was simple but good, honest, tastey food which we very much enjoyed. The only thing that let it down slightly was breakfast. There was no vegetarian option, although veggie Glamorgan sausages were on the menu in the pub. I managed with two eggs and so on, but its so usual to have a veggie option nowadays. Three slices of toast between two people (which seemed to be the norm, looking around the dining room) was a little mysterious - especially as the empty toast rack was whisked away before we had the chance to ask for more (a shortage of bread in the area?). No hash browns or fried bread left breakfast a little carbo light - even my husband thought this although he had the full English. Apart from this eccentricity, it was a lovely, lovely stay and we might consider staying again, but ask earlier for more toast next time!

Room Tip: Book well in advance for the restaurant as its small and very busy
