Service was friendly and efficient but the food needs looking at .....
For a pub that's busy I was expecting the food offering to be better than it was ..... Fish cake starter. The flavour was there but it looked like a mess on the plate the tartare sauce was appalling !!
Chicken chorizo salad ...... Pre cooked chicken isn't the way forward , a nice piece of freshly cooked chicken would be preferred , the salad was dirty and bitter with no dressing which made it taste bland , chorizo over cooked and basically no effort to produce a simple dish well .... So disappointed !!

For drinks and ambience great but the food has let everything done :(

I have visited this inn on several locations in the last few years and have nothing to at all bad to say - the opposite. I have been here as part of a small group, a larger group and on cricket tour. The staff have been as helpful as you can be without being obsequious, the pub fare is great value and very well cooked, the range of beers and ciders excellent and changing, with visiting beers and ciders. The garden and patio is lovely, with great views across the valley and faces towards the sunset for those who love a good sunset.

The rooms are good, comfortable and spacious, with usual, well cleaned facilities. You need to remember a 4-digit code for access, but providing you dont take an hour to get across the courtyard, you should be able to find someone to remind you what it is.

This isnt a michelin restaurant; it's not a 5-star establishment attending to nobility: it's a small to medium sized coaching inn that is very friendly, very well run and is for all types and jolly good for it too. They love cricket, which is also great!

Room Tip: Room 12 is good sized family room.

An Olde Worlde pub in a small attractive village with a separate hotel block on two stories. Adequate free parking at rear of premises.

We had a good sized room with loads of hanging wardrobe space plus several drawer units. Comfy double bed with extra pillows. No safe or fridge but generous tea/coffee/milk and biccies plus hairdrier. Flat screen tv & scented air freshener was a nice touch. No smell of cigarettes at all. No views from the back of the building but this was more than compensated by the tranquil peace & quiet we experienced. En suite bathroom had a full size bath (hurrah) with shower, shaver socket, toiletries & nice towells. If you are not too good on your feet be careful climbing in & out of the bath since there are no grab rails.

Drink prices in the pub were, pint of cider £3.35, large wine (250 ml) £7.50, bottle of house wine £13.50

Dinner was nicely cooked with something for everybody, reasonably priced and effective service.
Breakfast was typical fare & adequate.

An ideal watering hole for your Cotswold trip.

What a lovely spot, great views from the garden/terrace, gliders from local club above and a special sunset, good pub atmosphere and a decent drink, the food was excellent and served by pleasant and efficient staff, the rooms in the annex are large, clean, quiet and comfortable, breakfast was good, plenty choice and well presented, happy to return.

A large group of us pre-booked dinner for 4 consecutive evenings in the pubs function room. At their request we also pre-ordered our food for each evening. Sadly despite all of the planning the food took ages to arrive and on one evening two of our group did not receive their main course and another evening one of the group was forgotton. It is a shame as the pub is in a lovely location with a nice beer garden but the kitchen could not cope.

We chose this pub to stay as we needed to be in Stroud for the weekend and wanted a place to stay that was reasonably close, quiet and comfortable with food, real ale and no need to drive afterwards. The Crown scores on all these points. A few days before our stay, we were telephoned to check if we wanted a table for dinner as reservations were mounting up. We did, and we really appreciated the thought. The restaurant was packed all evening and did a number of second sittings. The food was good, and worked well with the real ale on tap. Not all mobile networks have reception. O2 didn't, but there was no problem using the pub phone behind the bar. Great service. The accommodation annex a few steps from the pub itself had all we wanted. It was clean and comfortable with a nice size en suite. We slept like the dead. Breakfast on Sunday morning was available from 8, which was popular. Gloucester Old Spot sausages and black pudding made for an excellent breakfast. This is not a 5 star hotel, but nor is it 5 star prices. Having stayed in quite a few of those, I think the Crown has all the essentials, is good value and we greatly enjoyed our short stay here.
