“Christmas festivities”
Reviewed 16 December 2013 via mobile

Visited The Crown with 4 friends for an evening meal. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the ambiance was superb and to crown it all we were visited by carol singers in traditional costume which rounded the evening off very well. Very traditional country pub stone built and log fires. We would certainly visit again if in the area.

Specials board was almost all fish which suited us fine.Pollack Supreme with deep fried oyster, samphire, mash and oyster sauce (£10.25) was excellent as were the fish and chips (£9.50) from the standard menu.Five good quality real ales all sensibly priced and an open fireplace with a couple of dogs warming themselves.Quite quiet on this Friday lunchtime, but it is the run up to Christmas.Even so,what more could you ask from a genuinely historic country pub.Loved it !

The wife and I were visiting family in the area, and we went to the Crown Inn for a spot of Sunday lunch. I have only good things to say about this pub. The food was excellent, I had roast chicken and it was cooked perfectly. We didn't have puddings but they looked fantastic. This is proper homely food and combined with the friendly atmosphere, this is a wonderful pub that we will definitely come back to.

We stayed for one night in mid September, on the recommendation of some lovely chaps in a food caravan just up the road. Fantastic atmosphere in the old pub blended with very comfy rooms in a modern accommodation wing. They have done it just right! Thanks guys.

From the moment we entered we were made so welcome. The staff here are very attentive - even though the pub was very busy everyone was served efficiently though without being rushed. Great to have imaginative veggie options too: eg carrot and courgette spaghetti (though they hadn't realised that Parmesan cheese isn't vegetarian). Good choice of ales too!

We stayed at the Crown foe 4 nights Tues.-Sat AM and had a very enjoyable and relaxing time.I think the building dates back to 16c when it was a cider house and butchers/slaughter house and is full of charm and is also the village pub and can be quite busy of an evening.Staff were warm and friendly and helpfull at all times. The rooms are in an annex at the rear of the building and are clean with plenty of space, the bathroom was also large with plenty of room and above bath shower. The evening menu was a bit limited but there was also specials and we both found something different each nightand were both very satisfied with the quality of the food presented.Breakfast was ok but there could have been a little more to the full english, but then again you only had to ask for more and it was not a problem.Been our first visit to the Cotswolds we chose the Crown for what we thourght was a central location and we could not have picked better as our furthest point of travel was 40mins.and found it a great base to explore the area. The present management have been there for about 6/7 yrs. i believe and welcome Feedback both Good OR Bad so as to keep improving their service.I would recommend The Crown Inn to any one looking for a place to sit back unwind and relax and recharge the batteries then this is the place for you but if you are expecting a modern GASRTO pub with all the bells and whistles then its not for you.

We had a great family weekend here.

The rooms were good value and very comfortable and clean. Nothing super smart - but you're not paying super smart prices!

The pub itself is great - a really cosy, character bar.

The food was nice. A wide choice - but definitely more "pub grub" than gastro pub food.

Breakfast was good too.

Overall - a great value B&B and you get what you pay for!
