If you are visiting here expecting fine dining and high end restaurant food, then book somewhere else. However, this isn't a criticism- is a pub and that is what you should expect.
The food is good hearty pub food- large portions of basic food but very well done. I had a homemade burger- smashing. Husband had a steak, very tender. Our child had a child's burger and ate every single mouthful.
They were friendly to the children and the play area is fantastic. We ordered, took the kids outside to play for 15minutes then came back in to eat. Brilliant. The service was friendly- the waitress fetched colouring crayons for the children, which was a nice touch.
I'm told the 'Old Codger,' beer was lovely by my old codger......
There were some locals in who had dogs, so they were wandering round- again, it was totally fine for the pub atmosphere- they allowed our children to stroke them.
We will definitely be going again on a regular basis. The only draw back was that they didn't start serving food until 6.30pm even though the website said 6. So there were 3 groups of people waiting to order by 6.30pm. And we were hungry!
I also liked the look of the lunchtime sandwiches, so will be back soon.

Brilliant Hospitality and it's great to see a pub so busy in these parts. Worth making a reservation! Restuarant Menu was varied and I was suprised to see monkfish, guina Fowl. Tapas plate and .whitebait were great. A little more expensive than other local pubs but fine as food was good. Good choice of beers, good coffee and great atmosphere. Portion sizes were too large for me (almost of putting!) but fine for big eaters.

Gorgeous traditional family run pub with lovely atmosphere. We were traveling from the other side of the county to visit and so expected a great evening. However they easily exeeded our expectations and treated us like family. We were greeted warmly and taken to our table. The service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive and we were not rushed. The food was homemade and traditional and was sublime. The flawless service and food will mean that i will be doing the 26 mile round trip again soon! Could not recomend more highly.
