“Great hotel, friendly service, excellent food”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We use the Hotel Couronne for our clients who book on our trekking holidays in particular on the Tour du Mont Blanc. The feedback we have received from our clients this summer has been great... good facilities and friendly helpful service and fantastic food.

I went to Argentiere with some friends for a trekking and climbing fortnight in September 2013 and although most nights were spent in mountain refuges, we were based at this hotel, and stayed there five nights in total. On the plus side, it's right in the middle of Argentiere (although there's not much in this town out of ski season) and has fantastic views of the Mont Blanc massif from all the southwest and southeast facing rooms. Some rooms however face roofs and adjacent building walls so make sure if you can that you ask for one of the rooms with a view facing south.
The downside is that these rooms face the road which as other people have said can be very noisy, in my case, right up til two or three in the morning (even though in the summer the town is rather dead).
Otherwise, the hotel is pretty enough in a fairly standard way, and clean and well-kept, but the rooms are fairly small and a little tired (during my stay I had three different rooms, and with my friends' further switches, I got to see 9 different rooms and while all slightly different, were more or less the same) although well-enough appointed.
Some people have said the staff were friendly - well, we didn't find them unfriendly, but I wouldn't say they were particularly friendly either, not that that should bother you - you don't go to a hotel to make friends for life with the staff. The guy who hovered around at breakfast, who might have been the owner, wasn't very good at saying bonjour either, but he was probably stressed. Same with the woman who was often on the desk who I got the impression was his wife. The breakfasts were fairly good (continental only though) but I believe they cost extra on top of fairly expensive accommodation.
The hotel owns a restaurant next door which you get a discount at as a resident.
TIP - if you ask, the hotel will give you free bus and train passes to Chamonix. In the winter this is a free service anyway as is usual, but in summer you pay for the buses and trains up and down the valley, so get the pass from reception. Having said that, on no occasion were we ever asked to show our tickets to anyone, but there's always the possibility.

Room Tip: South west or south east rooms have the views of the MB massif and the Argentiere glacier, although...

Good size room (had an extra single bed) and bathroom with a big bath, but for those who like to shower it was the European hand held shower head and no shower curtain. The main street is very noisy, but who is in the room during the day and it wasn't as bad at night. Beds were very soft and moved apart during the night! But wonderful friendly service and big tasty breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The Les Cherserys Restaurant next door gives 10% off for guests and has a very good 3 course dinner of the day.. Don't be put off sitting outside if cool as they supply blankets. Overall a wonderful welcoming atmosphere and great stay.

Room Tip: The stret rooms have best view but are noisy if you are there during the day. From the photos here i...

We stayed for 2 nights at La Couronne as a family of 2 adults, a baby and a toddler. We were very happy with our stay. The staff were freindly, the location was good, the double room well appointed with great views of the glacier, the parking was free, the breakfast good (subject to extra charge of around EUR 10) and the wifi free. The staff were particularly helpful and quick in responding to my queries in advance regarding whether we could have 2 cot beds in a double room and this was no problem. There is a charge of EUR 7 per cot bed per night if you want to hire theirs. However, the cot beds are good quality and the bedding excellent. Also useful to note is the hotel has a lift which is good. Overall I would recommend the hotel and would happily stay again.

Room Tip: Room 37 is on a corner overlooking 2 glaciers with a view down the valley. We didnt find it noisy at...

The hotel has a great location. Very friendly service.
Unfortunately, Family room was in poor condition. Dirty carpet, shabby walls, damaged furniture. I can recommend this hotel, but remember to check the details of the room.

The .5 star was because the hallways needed serious upgrade but otherwise the hotel was very nice. The hotel lobby/lounge was well appointed and room was spacious enough with an adequately sized bathroom. On site restauant was upscale and offered quite a few tasty items and hotel guests can take a 10% discount. The hotel is located in town center (although the town isn't that big) and is within very easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, bakeries, market, bus stop. Wifi was available and works. The staff was friendly. I would stay here again if I was in the area.

We were in the Chamonix area for hiking and biking and were out of the hotel all day. There was very friendly and helpful staff in the hotel. We stayed in Room 23, a double comfort room with balcony and bathroom/ ensuite. There was a nice big bath tub with plenty of hot water to soak in at the end of each day. The bed was very comfortable. The only "problem" was the same as others have mentioned...there is a lot of traffic noise and bar noise from across the street that went late into the nighttime hours. Luckily we had ear plugs to mute those sounds. All will be fine if you have earplugs! We ate at the restaurant next door both nights. The food was excellent both times but unfortunately we had the same waiter both nights and he was Mr. Grumpy Pants.
