“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

Since the Gite le Belvedere has new ownership (since Dec 2012) we stayed there several times (3x) for ski-holidays. Ben Williams and his young crew make your stay really a pleasant one. The rooms are improved, some with private bathrooms. New showers are great. And if you want the crew will make you a good dinner for a reasonable price. Many reasons to come back here.

Room Tip: Room with view on Mont Blanc

We stayed for a few nights skiing. It's close to ski hire and the lifts, so perfect location. There's also plenty of close by bars, restaurants and shops. It's a few miles out of Chamonix but still close enough to ski the whole valley. The rooms are basic but provided everything we needed. Food was great and so was the price. Could only be improved by selling bacon sardies at breakfast!

Perfect accommodation for a cheap skiing or mountaineering trip. Basic accommodation that is similar to a youth hostel with breakfast included. Storage room for skis. Tea making facilities located in common room. No facility to self catering but meals can be provided if required.

I have stayed here 3 or 4 times this season, and it just keeps on getting better! On one occasion i stayed with my girl friend for a weekend and we were recommended one of the new double rooms which had a stunning view of the mountain form the balcony, and was perfectly sized for the two of us and our onslaught of ski gear.. Slept very well in the new bed as well.

The staff are brilliant. The warm welcome was not just a welcome.. it continued throughout all my time there, and made it all the more enjoyable!
The optional dinners were tasty, wholesome, well cooked food that more than filled the void after a day on the mountain. Especially the home made burgers! YUM!
You get more than what you pay for here, which is very refreshing.

Only a short walk to the piste as well.

Room Tip: For a couple, see if you can get the top corner room nearest the Mt Blanc! Great view.

A very inexpensive but basic hostel accommodation at €17 per night. Under new management, very helpful and friendly staff. Beds were very comfortable. 4 bunks per room, top bunks probably a little too high for easy access. Only major issue were the showers which were very low pressure. An upgrade is promised. Breakfasts were excellent for €5 and dinners very good for €15, though portions could have been a little bigger. Overall we were very happy

Room Tip: All the rooms appeared to be the same, but top floor might be best to avoid noise from above, and at...

Thanks for staying with us Simon! Am happy to report that we have resolved the issue of the showers. They are now at a good pressure and always hot!
Come back soon to try them out!!

Gite Le Belvedere is a great place to stay. It was recently purchased by a new manager, Ben, who is actively trying to build an affordable gite (in a sea of Chamonix excess) with good food and a friendly atmosphere. So far, so good! This place will likely become a mecca for climbers, skiers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

The gite has a large dining room and common area on the first floor, with simple but clean bunk and private rooms upstairs. There is a ski and board locker in the entry foyer. Family style breakfast and dinner are available for a very fair price (5 and 15 euros); dinner, in particular, is excellent, hearty fare. You can buy wine or beer for essentially market costs. On my visit, there was an eclectic mix of friendly people who were gathered to enjoy skiing all day and socializing at night.

Perhaps the only possible downside for some people is that the showers and toilets are shared. Summer plans for Le Belvedere include renovating these facilities.

All in all, you can't beat this place. I'll visit again for sure.

Room Tip: Bunk rooms have sinks.

All the reviews written this year are spot on. Not sure what else I can add. Yes the price reflects the basic accommodation but you get so much more than that.
Warm, clean, comfortable, welcoming.
Fantastic Location.
The staff are wonderful - accommodating/knowledgable/great fun.
The food is excellent.

Having been to Chamonix a number of times I loved/preferred Argentiere, small but perfectly formed.
Whilst I'm normally a luxury hotel/chalet kind of girl, I will definitely be returning to the Belvedere. You can't buy what they've got.

Room Tip: I had room 8 'Mont Blanc Suite'. Can recommend this one but they all looked great.
