Just popped in to meet friends and check out as a potential for our next visit to the area given its proximity to slopes. Seriously unfriendly and grumpy receptionist and bar staff- looked my husband up and down and begrudgingly offered him entry (we had some snow on shoes which given we'd walked in the snow from car park was hardly surprising)- at which point we suggested to our friends to join us at our hotel instead- they did. Not a place to welcome- bit old fashioned (view of our friends who stayed there)- have modernised some of the rooms but without attitudes of staff warming up there are many more places to stay. Who needs the attitude.

I must admit, I was very disappointed with customer service I experienced. Unless you "show" money to the crew, they don't give a damn. I love Argentiere and it's mountains surroundings, nevertheless, I will never come back to Le Montana.
Kind Regards,
everyday guy.

I spent almost two weeks at Le Montana with a small group of fellow hikers during the "shoulder" season - late June to the beginning of July. The hotel opened early in the season, expressly for us. Astonishingly, in perfect hiking weather, most places are not open for business!

I was in one of the older rooms on the first floor, which was reasonably roomy, clean, and comfortable, with good beds and a delightful little terrace to sit on. The only downside was the lack of a real shower - I had a bathtub with a handheld "telephone" sprayer, but no shower curtain. The renovated rooms upstairs have up-to-date fixtures, and I understand that the downstairs rooms are next on the list. Good, solid WiFi is available at no charge.

Our hosts were delightful, and really seemed to enjoy having us there. Of course, the fact that we made a substantial dent in their wine cellar helped! Breakfasts were very good, and the dinners were interesting and well-prepared - no need to go further afield for your evening meal.

The location couldn't be better - close to bus routes and the train station (about a five-minute walk), but far enough out of town to be quiet.

Highly recommended!

I would recommend this hotel for a number of reasons:

Firstly, it is well located for those wanting ease of access to the Argentiere ski lifts (100m behind the hotel). It is also an easy 5 mins walk up to the main bit of the village where the bars are - but sufficiently far enough away that you will not be disturbed by any noise (unlikely).

Secondly, the rooms are well equiped with flat screen TV etc (but no English channels), comfortable and very clean. My room had a bath but no shower (but a hand held one in the bath) which might concern some people.

Thirdly, the owners were very friendly and very accomodating. They have had a tough time of it this season as there has been so little snow and therefore many cancellations. They could not have been nicer though.

Finally, the breakfast was very good. Excellent croissant, coffee, fried eggs (on request) and freshly squeezed orange juice. Just what you need to set you up for a day on the slopes.

All in all a very good place to base yourself.

Our first ever vist to Argentiere made all the more pleasant by this super little hotel. We only had time for a 5 night break and were a little concerned that we'd only find hotels offering 7 night min. We found Le Montana on the internet and after a couple of emails and one phone call had secured a Mon-Fri booking with them. They also helped with Geneva transfer using AlpyBus (also recommended). We took the more modest rooms but they have a couple of very nicely appointed suites. Rooms were spacious enough and very comfortable and quiet. The owners (Celine and Christophe) were welcoming, helpful and very charming. We enjoyed several pre and post dinner drinks in the salon which, again was comfortable and very cosy with a lovely fire each evening.

Very useful was free wifi throughout the hotel with specific access on each floor ensuring fast connection wherever you happened to be.

The restaurant only operates in the summer which was fine by us as plenty of good places to eat in Argentiere and Chamonix. Breakfast (7.30-10) was usual continental fare complimented by scrambled eggs and bacon for the 'Rosbifs'!

By far and away the most unique feature of the hotel was its convenient location. First of all only 1.5hrs from Geneva, situated on the main road through Argentiere (a short stroll up into the village) and only a few minutes walk to the lifts through the hotel's back garden and over a pedestrian bridge into Les Grand Montets car park.

A fabulous little hotel. Clean, cosy, good value and perfectly situated.

We booked a Geneva flight for a 3 day 4 night deal and were really struggling to get any room at all in Chamonix - after several hours of online search booked the last room at Le Montana.

We booked our transfer with Chamexpress who were superb costing 50Euros each return to Geneva Airport. During the journey from Chamonix to Argentiere we were not filled with a great deal of hope for either the village or the hotel as the driver could not say too many good things about either.

On arrival the hotel looked ok, a friendly welcome and as a French non speaker the welcome was unexpectedly warm as on my only other visit to France my lack of the language did not go down well with the locals. The bedroom was clean but i was a little put out at the lack of a hook for the shower head and a shower curtain - this problem disappeared when i filled the bath after Day 1 - must be the fastest filling bath i have ever encountered and very relaxing. There was also a balcony with a fantastic view of Le Grand Montets and down the valley toward Chamonix. Wifi was also available but i did not need so not sure if this was free or not.

Breakfast was great, usual fare, decent coffee, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, cereals and yoghurts.

The main plus point was the proximity to the lifts at Le Grand Montets which you can reach in less than 5 minsby walking down the lane beside the hotel and crossing a small footbridge directly into the carpark for the Gondola or Chairlift. I would recommend getting the chairlift to avoid the queues but depends on time of day. Also easy to catch a free bus here up to Le Tour or down to Chamonix.

All in all a very pleasant stay, i'd recommend a bar called Rusticana for great food and a few beers.

all you need for a good short ski stay: close to main lifts and ski rental locations, good breakfast, warm room, bath, storage room, roaring fire in lounge, friendly staff. Free Wi-fi in all rooms a great bonus. not much else in this village of argentiere though - limited places for eating out in evening.
