We loved this place. The staff and management were the friendliest we have ever come across. (The manager even lent me his golf clubs!) The hotel was fairly new and it was quiet which helped a lot, but we could not fault this place. From the beach hut where we all fell asleep to the restaurant which offered some great food at good prices. One of our best hotel experiences.

Amari Trang is amazing resort set in a very picturesque part of Trang province. It is 40 mins drive from Trang Airport( Nok Air ). The resort is very isolated about 10 mins on a bicycle from the nearest shops and restaurants. The pool is very nice and quiet. The beach is nice and was clean. The restaurant prices are resonable for a 5 star resort with Phat Thai noodles 220THB and burger and chips 250THB. The drinks are expencive so maybe it is a good idea to take some from the shops outside the resort. The views from the rooms especially rooms 2010 - 2015 second floor. The deluxe rooms are on the 3rd floor.
The resort is perfect for people seeking peace and nice views. No nightlife outside the resort and really quiet during the low season. The room service was good and having a breakfast on the balcony of the room with the stunning views is just amazing.

My wife and daughter and I stayed for six nights at this resort and we had a wonderful time. It was during the off-season and the rate was very cheap. From what I could tell, there were only about ten rooms rented while we were there. We felt like we had a private resort to ourselves.

We took the Nok Air flight in to Trang from Bangkok. It was a nice flight, with easy online booking. The taxi ride in was about 40 minutes and cost 800 baht.

The resort is very beautiful and well-maintained. The landscape architecture is some of the best that I have ever seen. The entire place puts one in the spirit of relaxation.

The staff was very friendly and really tried hard to make sure that we had a wonderful experience. Nearly everyone knew our names and greeted us several times a day. The general manager and food and beverage manager made a point to come and talk to us nearly every evening. They were great.

Another reviewer mentioned that the pool bar staff was not very proactive. I agree with this. However, it was not a problem at all. The bar staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. Due to the limited number of guests, I could just hold my drink up and signal the bartender to bring another and it would be there with a smile very quickly. We did not order drinks on the beach. However, I did see that that was available.

We met a very nice British family staying there also. They became great friends and helped make the trip even more enjoyable. They had a daughter the same age as ours and they had a lot of fun together.

One day, the hotel arranged a boat tour of several nearby islands for us. It was a fun trip. We swam through a cave to a hidden beach within an island, went snorkeling, and went to a nice place for lunch.

The food was very good and reasonably priced for a nice resort. My daughter had a difficult time finding something that she would eat. We did not realize that they had a children’s’ menu until the third day.

Due to the heat, we did not participate in the free kayaks and bikes. We did see that others did and it seemed like fun. There was a dive center but I never even went to it.

Like others have said, there is not much outside the resort. If you are looking for nightlife, this is not your place. If you are looking for a remote peaceful location for relaxation, this is your place.

Staff were great - very professional & quick check-in. Our room was very nice, with an awesome sea view - no problems there.
My son really enjoyed the swimming pool, which seemed very warm compared to others.
Breakfast was excellent, with a choice of different dishes each day.
I think the reason Amari offers such low rates on this property compared to their others, is that there is very little to do outside of the resort (which some people may love) but we had our truck there, and were hard pressed to fill the days.
Pak Meng beach needs a big clean up if they want to attract more foreign visitors.

We've stayed at the Amari Trang twice. Both times we returned amazingly relaxed and well fed! It's a relatively new, very attractive hotel in a gorgeous location, but it does have negatives too.

Pluses:

1)Stunning beach (although you can only swim at very high tide), but it's great for beachcombing, as you can walk out a very long way
2)Lovely food in two very nice restaurants.
3)Very isolated and relaxing
4)Wonderful bar for sundowner cocktails
5)Great pool - very large with lots of sunbeds.
6)Very good value
7) The hotel has a beach club on Ko Kradan. This is a bit run down (no running water when we were there) but the setting is spectacular, and the hotel does boat trips here most days.

Negatives

1)There's a smell of drains by the pool (which apparently they're trying to sort)
2)The breakfast is very expensive (but room service is cheaper)
3) We had major communication difficulties with many (not all, but many!) of the staff. We ordered room service every day and ended up taking bets on what would actually arrive! The management acknowledge the standard of English spoken is a problem and are apparently trying to find an English teach for the staff!
4) The staff around the poolside are not particularly proactive or speedy - compared to hotels of this standard that I've stayed in.
5) We found the beds very hard, but this is personal taste!
6) The Amari van transport from Trang airport (which Nok Air fly to) is very expensive, about 500 baht each I think. We found a local taxi firm was much cheaper (850 baht for two).

We have just returned from 11 nights in the amari, and I hope this answers some questions I asked before my trip.
We flew from Heathrow via Bangkok to krabi, one word of warning if you buy duty free, fluids over 100 mls must be rechecked in, a bit of a pain otherwise every thing purchased would be confiscated.
We arranged a transfer through the hotel for appox £40.00.
We didn’t arrive until 2330 and were checked in a very efficient manner.
The following morning we were able to appreciate the fantastic views from the balcony, we were allocated in room 315 and I would thoroughly recommend this room, the view was fantastic!
The room had every thing you needed tea and coffee as well as all the usual amenities.
Breakfast was wonderful again everything you could ask for, lunch was served by the pool or restaurant serving breakfast.
Evening meals were taken in this restaurant or the Italian, only two restaurants opened not three.
We ate in both and found the prices reasonable.
There are no restaurants outside in the western term, more like cafes with plastic tables and chairs on the beach.
I would not let this put you off as the food was excellent and the prices were minimal.
I think the restaurant was called yok yor.
A lot has been mentioned on TA about the cost of drinks, there were 4 bottles of water in the room every day, drinks in the bar were 240bhts + tax for a large singha or a cocktail.
Food was also very reasonably priced.
If you travel to an upmarket hotel you have to expect to pay a premium.
The hotel has a fantastic tailors shop, the standard of work was excellent, a suit for £130.00 and two shirts for about £30.00.
I would defiantly recommend something being made.
The spa again in the hotel was reasonably priced £40.00 for an hours massage.
If you like night markets, shops and bars, massages on the beach then look at another resort, if on the other hand you want total relaxation beautiful surroundings at a very reasonable price then this is the place for you!
If you have any questions then contact me.

A little out of the way- about 40min from the town of Trang and the airport- its remoteness is probably one of its benefits. If your looking for nightlife and restaurant options then this isnt the place. But for a relaxing break this was a great option. A fairly modern property, apparently only 5 years old, which is well maintained. A great location overlooking the ocean and a number of islands. Rooms are well appointed, clean and comfortable. While food options are limited it was good quality. The Beach House area was a great place to relax on the lounges with a cocktail and take in the sunset. Only stayed for 3 days so didnt get a chance to do any tours or try the spa but did try out the gym which was small and well equipped. Hope to stay a little longer next time.
