Owner description: Aqua Narrowboats is a family company specialising in Private Bespoke Boat Building and luxury canal boat hire & holidays established in 2004. As of 2018 our hire boats are based at Barton Turns Marina, on the Trent and Mersey Canal in Staffordshire. This site is unstaffed except on Turnaround days, therefore please contact our Head Office at Mercia Marina in Derbyshire (we do not have any hire boats at Mercia Marina). From our hire base at Barton Turns there is a range of canal networks for you to enjoy your narrowboat holiday including the Four Counties Ring, the Staffordshire Ring, the Leicester Ring, plus many there and back routes. We are just a 3.5 hour trip to Fradley Junction and a 10 hour cruise to Great Haywood Junction, these main canal junctions mean that lots of route options are within easy reach. All our boats are rated at 5 stars by Visit Britain. The canal boats are replaced every 4 to 5 years for the best possible customer experience.

Our third experience of a canal holiday, and we just can't wait to go again. This was definitely the most comfortable boat we have been on - Aqua Vivo, and we would highly recommend Aqua Boats to anyone. It was great to be phoned the day before our holiday to be told the boat could be collected 2 hours earlier than expected. Great tuition before setting off, and we soon felt totally confident that we could handle any eventuality. Canal folk were so friendly and helpful, so we had no problems navigating the locks or turning the boat in winding holes. The boat handled superbly and the quality of the fittings in the kitchen and bathroom were better than we have at home!
100% recommend booking with this company...we hope to be back soon!

Tried a short boating break with Aqua Narrowboats after a long time hiring (starting over 30 years ago) but not having hired a boat for about 8 years. How things have changed. Gone are the rattly cupboard contents every time you start the engine, wearing your winter woollies in the cold and making do with a kitchen and loo from the dark ages of camping, Aqua boats are the complete opposite - quiet, warm, granite-topped kitchen and bathroom, proper shower with plenty of hot water, comfy full size double bed with linens and household basics all provided. The handover was comprehensive and reassuring on managing the facilities of the boat, the area the boats are moored in provided loads of cruising options and it was all surprisingly green and peaceful (we were expecting much more industrialisation going so close to Burton and the A38). Very much recommend Justin and his fleet of boats for a touch of luxury on a boating holiday. We loved it.

We hired a Aqua Narrowboat (Aqua Leven) for a week at the beginning of September. We were greeted by Lidon who gave us a quick tour of the boat then gave us some time to unpack our bits from the car. Once done, Lindon gave us full tuition on the boat and once we felt comfortable we were taken out onto the canal. Our training lasted 4 hours, however we were extremely grateful for it. As it was our first time, we felt comfortable with the steering and the general runnings of the boat to go out and enjoy our holiday. The boat itself lives up to 'luxury'. We were extremely happy with the inside, all home comforts were there for us! On the second day we realised we didn't have the right map for our journey, Justin found a point to meet us and dropped the map off. Nothing seems too much for the Aqua Narrowboat team, they were on hand whenever necessary. Despite a few days of rain our spirits were not dampened, the boat has ample space and does not feel too enclosed if you want to hide from the rain for the day. All in all a lovely holiday. We look forward to our next trip!

This was the second time we took a holiday on Aqua Jeta. The boat is top of the range, and the team at Aqua Narrowboats are friendly and supportive. Highly recommended.

Arrived on Saturday for an early departure at 1 O'clock having booked a short 3 night break. Were immediately impressed by the friendly welcome and standard of the boats - beautifully fitted out with 'extras' not usually provided by other companies, wet weather gear, dog life jackets, DVD's, board games and puzzles, T-towels and soap and a super food pack containing tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a delicious cake that didn't last long once we set sail!
We have boated many times before but were given clear, very informative instructions about the boat and what to do if we had a problem. Ample opportunity to ask any questions we may have had and then we were off!
The weather was very kind - no need for the wet weather gear! We found plenty of pubs and places to stop and moor easily. Barton Marina provided a chance for a little 'retail therapy' on route, lots of walking could be had along the towpath - the dogs loved it and we all enjoyed loads of fresh air, locks and family time (all this even with 2 teenagers on board!). In 3 days we made it easily to Fradley and back in time to moor just past 'The Dragon' in Willington ready for our 8.30am return on Tuesday. Super food at that pub too!
All in all, a super holiday, in our opinion, a superb boat and a really friendly and professional company. Have already booked our next trip!
