“Useful scene setter”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Recently extended, this museum is a very good jumping off point for those visiting the Great War battlefield sites in Belgium. Learn all about Ypres and Passchendaele here - it adds huge significance and poignancy to subsequent cemetery visits.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

My son (9) and I visited a number of museums over a 2 day visit and this was by far the best.

It is well laid out, informative without going overboard on detail, interactive and a delight to visit, the reconstruction of the trenches and the differences between the German and Allies systems was fantastic. The underground dug out was a bit too realistic and scary for my son (and a few others of a similar age I noticed) so parents be warned - you can whizz them straight through it to the armourments room at the end and it does not take too long to explore on your own so no need to miss out.

The rest of it was easy to navigate and a pleasure to visit.

Great little cafe next door with lovely gardens to explore and a great play area fo the kids to blow off steam too - perfect.

“FABULOUS”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

Absolutely fabulous museum and by far and away one of the best on this particular trip. i was on a school trip and both myself and the kids I was with found it fun and informative - exactly what a museum is supposed to be - a big congratulations to the curator of this museum as they have found a perfect balance between the seriousness of War and the sadness of the loss of life but combining that with real life hands on experiences of the dug outs and the trenches. Thank you!

“WW1 in detail”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

Set in a lovely old home and grounds, this is a classy museum which gives insight into WW1. It is a visually interesting museum and gives time to all the countries that played a part in the Great War. The trench and dugout displays are very realistic. Allow yourself plenty of time to look.
