Excellently located in the middle of major battlefields and walking distance to the centre of Zonnebeke. The hosts, Dirk and Heidi, couldn't be more gracious! They picked us up from the Ieper Train Station and were a treasure of information.
The building is quite new and looks deceptively small from the front but is quite spacious. The ground floor consists of the reception area with bar fridge, comfortable sofa and armchairs, and breakfast tables. There is an ' honour system' for drinks from the bar. Beyond this public area is the host family's private quarters.
There are five bedrooms available for guests which are located on an upper floor that can be reached by a flight of steps. The rooms are on either side of a hallway that leads to a large terrace where one can choose to have drinks and look over the surrounding fields. The fields look like part of what is now a housing development.
Our room was modern, spacious and very clean. Bed and pillows were fresh and comfortable, Delicate embroidery on the linens and chocolate on the bed were nice touches. Coffee, tea, hair dryer, small flat screen TV were all in the room. The bathroom was v clean and usual toiletries found in hotels were there. It was v hot when we were there and would have been grateful for an electric fan for a better sleep but will not mark down the B&B for this as am quite sure they would already have taken note for the future. They seem Intent to make their establishment as best it can be.
Breakfast was more than adequate with choice of cold or hot food. Freshly cooked eggs any way you want is offered so are a variety of breakfast breads and pastry, cheeses, cold meats and freshly squeezed orange juice.
