“Excellent - hotel Gri Mar”
Reviewed 30 April 2014 via mobile

Hotel built in 1960's & retains charm of this era. We stayed in a double bed room equipped with fridge, TV and adequate bathroom. Everything exceptionally clean. Modern lift to all floors.
Charm of this hotel is beautiful, well maintained beautiful grounds, very friendly accommodating staff and above all the restaurant/dinner menu. Snr Oscar our waiter & Hose Antonio our Chef compare better than 1st class restaurants within Australia. Hose Antonio creates tastes & presentation in his dishes never before experienced. Everything in this hotel is a passion. We viewed two other hotels in the area & this is a winner. The rooms, even though simple are larger. We planned stay 1 night @ now night 4. If I ever come back to Llanca this Hotel would be my only choice.

FANTASTIC HOTEL This place is just wonderful - I just cannot say enough good things about it. We are two New York professionals hailing from Manhattan (steps from Central Park), traveling with three adolescents. We know this part of Spain well - one of us grew up in the region and has been coming to this part of the coast for over 40 years. This hotel makes a good base for exploring the Cap de Creus and the coast to the north. We love the fishing town of El Port de La Selva (check out the coastal paths behind the town, in the national park). Cadaques is simply not to be missed.
On this visit we were all absolutely enchanted by the Gri-Mar. First, it is full of truly authentic touches typical of this part of the coast: in the beautiful garden, one sees walnut trees, almond trees (near the terrace), beautiful pines and plantings characteristic of this area (near the pool). Other truly Iberian touches include charming cages with birds, big terracotta pots of brightly colored flowers, and, here and there, the gold and blue ceramic tiles manufactured in the nearby pottery center of La Bisbal. The pool was memorable - just gorgeous, and it never felt crowded. In fact, mom had a whole agenda planned for the kids to explore the area, but we could not tear ourselves away from the large, sparkling pool, and that's where we ended up spending most of our time. The rooms - and other parts of the hotel (bathrooms) - are spotless, with high ceilings, individual balconies, and an airy feeling. Yes, the decor is certainly vintage, but it is clean and comfortable. Though not pillow-topped, my mattress was brand new and very clean (I checked) and the sheets were fresh and crisp, and we woke up to a spectacular sunrise through the room's big picture-window. The hotel building charming and interesting: I loved the big sunny breakfast room, and the large terracotta-tiled terraces, surrounded by mature palms and eucalyptus on which the fresh and abundant breakfast is served. The décor is typical of the older hotels in the area, and everything, though not new, is lovingly maintained and has great character. In the parking lot, arbors and trellises have been planted to shelter your car from the sun – this extensive parking lot is a blessing in this coastal area where it is not always easy to find parking. The food at the poolside restaurant was absolutely delicious – local fish cooked right by the pool, and paella, expertly prepared, and served by courteous wait staff. In fact, what makes this family-run hotel exceptional is the wonderful personnel, which could not be more welcoming, helpful, or more eager to please (their advice and directions to the pharmacy were invaluable when one of my children stepped on a sea urchin at Cadaques). This is a truly fantastic hotel – we simply cannot wait to come back!

Room Tip: Our rooms overlooking the biggest terrace, numbers 114 and 115, were quiet and I imagine the rooms a...

We are on our way back home writing this review and even now missing Catalonian warmth and sunny weather. The personnel of Gri- Mar were very nice and polite and tried to be helpful . Our room was always very tidy with every day changed bed linen and towels. Air condition was amazing and we could even wear a fur coat if we wished. The view from our room was partially blocked by palm tree leaves which gave a special vibe to our room. This hotel has a good swimming pool even for a former swimming competitor . The pool bar enables you to have drinks directly from the water which is good but not always especially when you spill something. You are allowed to dive and your life is guarded by a qualified life guard on duty from 10 to 20:00. We had half board bought and were delighted with our choice with fresh food served by a family cook trying to fulfil our wishes. If you want to stay in this hotel you have to bear in mind that you are next to quite a busy road and railway. To get to any beach will take around 20 minute by walking along the verge. So wandering by night do not forget a torch. If you travel by car - there is a big car park which can accommodate your vehicle but you will have to visit a car wash at the very end because your car will definitely change its color to grey.

GREAT SPOT! Sleepy town in a beautiful setting. Extremely nice staff, dated but sharp decor, this was a wonderful place to chill for a couple of days on our whirlwind trip to Europe.
