This our second stay at the Radisson Blu in Saint Martin. Last year, we arrived with hope, but not in the best mood. We had reserved a week at the hotel next door, Le Domaine only to be informed by the Internet company with whom we made the reservation that our reservation would not be honored due to a "technical error", namely, Le Domaine was overbooked. The Internet company proceed to book us at the Radisson Blu with an upgrade to a "Garden Deluxe" room.

Much to our delightful surprise, the Radisson Blu has the better part of the beach that both hotels share, a consierge named Alain who fulfilled every request with grace and a smile, and a staff that was cheerful and service-oriented. We were also pleased with the free internet connection in our room. Our only displeasure was the phone system that prevented us from calling back to the USA using our own calling card. It required us to use a company supplied by the hotel at an outrageous price.

A few months ago, we discussed which island to visit for our annual January vacation and without debate we said "let's go back to St. Martin and the Radisson Blu". It was the first time in more than 20 years that we returned to the same island and hotel in two consecutive years.

I emailed Alain requesting he contact the local car rental company he connected us with last year, make us dinner reservations at three restaurants for our first three nights, and see if Bacchus wine company was still serving lunch. Within hours, I had my reply from Alain that we had the car, the reservations, and Bacchus was serving lunch. Alain, quite simply, is the best consierge I've encounted in a lifetime of travel.

After arriving, I had a special need to have access to a freezer for an ice pack I must use 3 times a day to ice down my shoulder that was recently operated on for a torn rotator cuff. Within a hour, a small unit was delivered to my room.

This is the level of service at the Radisson Blu. I'm sure next January will find us checking in again.

Room Tip: book the Garden Room, it is facing the interior courtyard filled with flowers and plants

Our first morning at Blu we were terribly late to the breakfast buffet, but the staff gracefully accommodated our needs. They not only let us glean but made us fresh coffee with a French press, fresh warm brioche, fresh pancakes, and sausage. The staff were kind and went far beyond what I expected of them. Instead of telling us we were late, they asked us what we wanted and gave us everything we requested.

Just re-opened in mid-December- understand at one point was single property with Le Domaine next door. Stayed in Grand Case Beach for 8 nights unaware of this hotel. Wanted a special New Year's Eve experience with my fiancee'. Compared with other options, this was so reasonable (still lap of luxury). Setting is so perfect, service was so good and dinner a great experience. We also had a dual spa visit that was first class.
Two caveats: it is definitely isolated, though only 15 minutes from a variety of options. Secondly, even with New Year's dinner reserved, we had to park outside the property and walk- imagine my fiancee's language in special "heels". They should have shuttle from the gate for lunch etc. Still deserves a near heavenly rating.

My family and I just returned from the Radisson Blu and had a great time! We had a Marina Suite which was very clean (not one bug!) and quite spacious. We loved sitting on our ground floor patio in the morning enjoying our cup of Nespresso coffee and watching the boats going down the river to the ocean and seeing the resident iguana sunning himself everyday. We all enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the morning, with the fresh fruit and omelet station. The beach was very peaceful and also a great place to chill out and read a book, and there were always available beach chairs. We rented jet skis one day right down the beach, which was also a good time. One afternoon we went to the Tijon perfume factory and all made our own personal scent. My teenage sons even loved that! The concierge Alain made many of our dinner reservations for us in Grand Case and chose one exceptional restaurant after another. I cannot say enough good things about the food in Grand Case. We felt like we were back in the South of France, with the fresh fish and incredible sauces! Lilianna was also such a nice lady at the Radisson! She gave us a tour of the resort when we checked in and always had a smile and a kind word to say. We enjoyed meeting other guests at the managers cocktail party on Thursday. We thought it was a nice touch! I know the resort has a few kinks to work out (internet in the room coming and going), but all in all I think the staff was wonderful and the Radisson is a resort worth coming to.

The Radisson is probably in the best location on St Martin. This is a secluded bay away from cruise line passengers and hard enough to get to to ddeter any tourists not staying at the local hotels. But to keep your sanity there are rules you have to follow: a) book an upstairs marina room..do not settle for the ground floor rooms b) do not expect the hotel to know you are staying in your room even after you have checked in. We got two lots of flowers for other guests and one invitation to the general manager's cocktail party for another guest. c) do not try to check out early in the morning..it will take at least 30 minutes d) do not believe the concierges when they say they have booked a taxi or a restaurant booking for you e) do not expect the hotel to be designed by anyone who has ever stayed in a hotel. There are no power points at the desk. Do not try to open the shower door inwards...you will either never get in or out of the shower.f) despite being French do not expect good coffee. Nestle have taken over St Marins and all most hotles/cafes sell is Nespresso.g) eat in Grand Case the food is just about universally great h) if you go to Margiot eat at the Banana Cafe..its where the locals do...the crepes are addicitve i) go go karting j) do not go to Orient Bay or Pinel Island when the cruise ships are in..it is disgusting k) go to Loterie Farm...its not a farm..it doesnt need 4WD....the zip lining is great..and spend the $55 and go for the extreme zip line experience l) take lots of US dollars..most places exchange 1 euro for 1 USD m) dont hire cars from the people who run Europcar, Safarari etc..use Hertz n) stay on the French side..there's a reason the only thing the ducth are famous for is a boy who put his finger in a hole

We thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor. We would like to apologize for not meeting your expectations during your stay with us at the Resort in December. We always do our best to satisfy our guests, but unfortunately this time, we failed in providing a good service. We reviewed with our team your comments and took the necessary actions.
We hope you give us a chance to welcome you back at the Radisson Blu Resort Marina & Spa in the future and give you another insight of our property.

I stayed with my family at this hotel for 10 nights and have never had a worse hotel experience. If you seek luxury, do yourself a favor and find another hotel. Breakfast food was decent, but pool bar food and in-room dining were both sub-par. The worst part by far is the service. I'm aware that the Caribbean is known for slow service, but the staff at this hotel was extremely unhelpful and inefficient. Simple requests took over 45 minutes, room service orders took almost 2 hours to be delivered, and many employees simply could not speak English. The rooms were not clean and were filled with ants and cockroaches. The idea of hospitality or customer service was nonexistent at this hotel, and I urge any prospective guest to think twice before booking this hotel.

Room Tip: Carpeted rooms preferable over suites by the bay

We've stayed here in 2010 and right after the re-opening in December 2011. The renovation is still not completed but they have opened up the left wing and some of the Marina suites. There is still renovation going on in the right wing, the one towards the harbor, and some of the Marina suites. During our stay we did not hear noise from the renovation and since most of it is inside one did not really notice it either. The renovated rooms are really nice, now carpeted, new curtains, furniture, paint, wiring, and a Nespresso machine. Several cups are provided daily and at no charge. Wired internet is available in the room (bring your Airport Express to make use of it with your iPad!), and the pool, lobby and restaurants offer wireless. All internet is free of charge for hotel guests.

We very much enjoyed our stay. We faced some startup issues as we were probably the first in the room after renovation completed, e.g. the lock of our newly installed terras doors was malfunctioning and the AC did not work. They fixed it immediately and that's the most important thing to note.

Couple of other things to notice: Le C restaurant did not provide a child menu, as opposed to last year. They did offer pasta or fries, but that mealchoice is not sufficient to cover a full week. We decided not to go back, although the food was very tasty. Le Marche ran theme buffets every night: Italian, International, French, Creole, Texmex, ...

The breakfast service got upgraded a bit too, compared to 2010. More fruit choice, more bread choice, espresso from Lavazza, more hot dishes etc. We found it more than sufficient.

Bottom line, we enjoyed our stay and found it very nice. We will be back....

Room Tip: Superior rooms offer the same amenities and size as DeLuxe. They differ from location though. Most S...
