“Great Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

I had excellent experience at this place with great location, great staff, great food. However, I would like to suggest management to take off the carpets from their rooms, corridors and change their air conditioning units. That's all I would suggest. Everything else should stay the same :))
Keep up the good job

Tips: Rent a car and explore beautiful Saint Martin from coast to coast, amazing beaches and very kind locals you will encounter.

Room Tip: Any room you get, you won't go wrong with it except as mentioned before the carpet and air condi...

Just came back from my stay, July 2-8th.
The hotel is not a five star, I would say 3 or. 3.5. The rooms are old, and nothing special. The restaurant has the worst service you can imagine.
The pool is nice, and the beach is very nice.

Construction going on as well, not pleasant.

Crazy road to get into hotel, far away from everything!!! You need a car, or expect very expensive taxi rides. Would never stay here again.
The staff was pleasant.

It's located on the far north side of island.

Room Tip: If your in the marina portion of hotel, ask for second floor. Rooms don't have beach views, an...

We spent 2 nights at the Riu Palace after getting a last minute deal. Anse Marcel is this beautiful secluded beach with the Riu & 1 other resort directly on the beach. The resort was maybe 30% full when we were there so very peaceful & at times we had the sea all to ourselves. The staff were all very friendly & helpful. The resort is really pretty. Downside is The food is very limited & quite expensive so if we were staying more than 2 nights we would of definitely needed to have left to get something to eat.

This resort will be turning into an all inclusive once the peak season starts in November so I'd be interested to see if the food options changes & whether you would need to venture past the front gates.

We'd come back to this hotel if we came back to St Martin.

We stayed here in june, after just coming from Anguilla which is obviously never going to compare! When traveling to beach locations I much prefer smaller resorts on the beach then mega resorts with no views. The hotel is fine if you like not really leaving it, but don't count on the staff to recommend anything to do on the island except dine in their overpriced restaurant, where we went and noone served us. Would not return!

We stayed for 7 nights in June and it was a lovely place. It had just changed from the Radisson to the Riu Palace, a lot of things like the stationary still said "Radisson Blu." That didn't matter to us. Beautiful secluded setting, plan on renting a car. Large campus with beautiful landscaping, fountains, mature trees, tall mountains, wonderful clean beach with soft sand, plenty of chairs. Pool was well-designed and lovely, too, but with the beach right there we hardly used it. We had a blast negotiating the windy road and steep, curving hills getting to the resort! Common areas including the lobby and breakfast "marche" are open air but the rooms are all air conditioned. Breakfast was great, including a daily selection of wonderful French pastries. It was included in the price of the room although we didn't realize that when we booked it.
The rooms are nice, not outstanding. It was convenient to have a fridge, but you can't plug in your American blow drier in the bathroom, you have to use it out by the bed, where there's no mirror. (They do provide a blow drier that will fit, but like all hotel hair driers, it stunk.) There were ihome clock radios that were great for charging my iphone 4GS. The shower has a silly design in which you can't help but get water all over the floor. Since it's not my house it didn't bother me, we just threw down our beach towels from during the day. If you enjoy watching yourself shower in the mirror, due to the bathroom design, this is definitely the place for you.We appreciated the complimentary can of of OFF! considering all the mosquito-borne illnesses. (We were fine).
There were only two downsides for us: first, the hotel is phasing out their sleep-number beds. We changed rooms halfway through our stay (b/c we wanted one king instead of 2 queens). The sleep-number worked in the first room but not the second. The sleep number mattress was still on there, though, and it was as hard as a rock. Good thing we were tired from our activities during the day.
The second was that the concierge recommended only one trip, an all-day boating affair I was sure would result in sunstroke for me after a long New England winter. It included lunch and several islands and sounded wonderful, but we ended up in the hotel's business center looking up our own excursions. (Captain Alan's 3 island half-day trip was a better fit for me). On the other hand she did help us find a doctor on a Sunday (after we forgot a Rx at home) which we appreciated.
The staff was very nice, and the on-site restaurants and gift shops good, if expensive (again, get a car and explore your options. If you're going to spend a lot on dinner, go the few miles to Grand Case. Parking at the hotel was easy.). We loved the giant iguanas that hang out behind the "C" restaurant kitchen and the gym was completely adequate and clean with expected equipment. There's free WiFi throughout the campus.
I highly recommend this resort if you want a secluded, relaxing retreat in a beautiful natural setting. Who wouldn't?

We just returned from a week at Riu Palace St. Martin. Like others, we booked with the Radisson and were never informed officially by either company of the change. We found out in time, but up until the day we left, I had several emails that went unanswered and there was not a working phone number that either Radisson or Riu could give to me. It was a bit disappointing to have unanswered questions before I got there but, such is life!

Bottom line... the Hotel is beautiful! We visited a couple other hotels on our trip and really were pleased with our decision. The hotel is not scheduled to be all inclusive until the end of the year, so I can't speak to what is to become of it. The pool was a main reason we chose the hotel, as we wanted an option besides the beach. It is amazing! The beach is in a cove and is very easy to navigate, unlike other parts of the island (Dawn Beach and Orient Bay are more wavy). Yes, the road to Anse Marcel is steep but it is not a problem. We felt very private at Riu and loved being away from crowds. Really was necessary to rent a car, but we rented from Hertz and it was inexpensive and reliable. The drive to Philipsburg took no more than half an hour or so.

We felt like the "happy" scale of employees was hit or miss. For being the "Friendly Island", we had our share of grumpy people at the hotel and all over the island. Plenty of really nice lovely people through out.

Getting to Grand Case was a ten minute trip if even that long. We ate there most evenings. One great aspect was that most of the restaurants honor to 1$=1Euro, so for Americans, it was very cost efficient. The hotel does not do this but many places on the French side do, so ask. The dutch side is $=$.

Breakfast was very good. Pretty much the same things every day but they had it all! Fresh fruit, omelets, cold cereal, croissants, assorted juices, bacon, sausage, cheese, ham… you name it! Couple drawbacks were the fruit flies that sat on the Tomato juice carafe and the curdled cream that sometimes sat on the table from one family to the next. I had to through out my coffee one morning after I added milk only to see it floating at the top.

Rooms were clean, plenty of beach towels, no annoying sales people like at the Westin! Lots to love about this place,

Overall, we loved Riu. Not fans of all-inclusives so we may not be back, but this location is really one of the best on the island. Don't be concerned about the road in, it is fine! As long as you rent a car, you will love the quiet aspect of the private resort
