Nestled above San Jose this hotel is like a dream---the main building is white stucco and has no sharp edges. The restaurant, El Tigre Vestido, overlooks San Jose. THe grounds of the hotel are very lush. The pool and hot tubs are up higher and are very beautiful too. Across the road is the Coffee Plantation.
The main hotel is filled with murals, folk art and modern art. It is like sating in a wonderful museum. Our room, Las Piedras ( each room has a name and unique art-work) , was on the first floor of the main hotel. It had a balcony with a great view of San Jose and the mountains. We had a king size bed, a sitting room and a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a shower. There was a coffee maker, milk and Finca Rosa Blanca's own coffee as well as snacks etc. to buy.
Breakfast was included in the rate as was all the coffee you could drink in the restaurant. The coffee is great!
The town of Santa Barbara is about 4km. away---you can walk ( it is hilly) or take a taxi or a public bus.
I took the Coffee Plantation tour ( $35) and learned a lot and enjoyed the walk through the plantation and a coffee cupping lesson, but it was a hilly walk on a hot day.
I loved the art work and took many pictures of the folk art, murals and even the tiles. It is a truly unique hotel!

Dear LPE22; It sounds like you had sch a great time which is exactly what we always want for our guests to experience. The murals, which are indeed both folk art and modern art, we feel also are part of our own mini museum. Your room, Las Piedras has a really large and wonderful balcony with a great view of San Jose and the mountains. That, along with the king size bed which every room has makes this a very popular room for our guests. I must tell you that next time you should try one of the other 13 rooms which are unique and have the same wonderful murals and unique characteristics. Thanks for writing about your stay..

This was our first stop in Costa Rica before departing for the Caribbean, and it was by far the best way to unwind from our busy lives and lengthy travels. I can't say enough about this place... the fabulous views of the San José city valley and volcanoes, the gourmet restaurant and bar, beautiful and educational coffee plantation tour, and beautiful home-like appeal of the Inn. Beautiful frescos all over the walls! We had the pleasure of meeting FRB's owner Glenn one day, who's very friendly and passionate about the place. The staff there was very approachable and willing to go out of their way for their guests.

We stayed at Finca Rosa Blanca at the end of our honeymoon trip. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel welcome and at ease. The property is beautifully landscaped, and is an adventure in itself to walk around the trails throughout the farm. Our room, La Piedra was gorgeous and unique, with a sitting room, a large bathtub and semi-private balcony where we sipped the farm's own coffee every morning. Being coffee fanatics, we took the coffee tour and learned so much more than we expected. The restaurant was incredible and the staff were very attentive. Someday, we will return to Costa Rica, and will make sure that the farm is on our itinerary.

Dear Vectorgirl; We really appreciate your nice comments and we certainly do hope you return and try one of the other 13 rooms we have at Finca Rosa Blanca. All of them are totally different except that they all are wonderful and spacious and offer incredible views and/or private gardens for each guest. We are building a new room right now called El Cielo, which will be a master suite and in a very quiet and beautiful corner of the property. Thanks again for writing about your stay.

My wife and I stayed here at the beginning and at the ending of our Costa Rica trip. We stayed in two different rooms but both were clean and charming.

All of the staff were most helpful, courteous and patient.

The food in the restaurant was excellent and we even spoke with the chef and thanked him for his work.

The hotel is convenient to the airport and were heard some planes but for us it was not intrusive.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Dear Joe H; Thanks for writing in and letting the readers know about our small coffee resort. The hotel is only 20 minutes from the airport, but like you mentioned, we rarely hear or see any airplanes as we are on the opposite side of the airport which is still a good 10 km away and hidden from mountainous terrain. We hope to see you again soon.

We only had one night here and were totally charmed. Wish we had time for a plantation tour.
We arrived at around midnight and there was someone waiting for greet us and check us in. The hotel is probably a 20 to 30 minute drive from the airport but so worth.
The rooms are charming, with lots of space and a door leading out to a private little patio where you can enjoy your monring coffee and the view. The hotel has the most delightful reading nooks with painted walls and flowing water that create a tranquil spot to enjoy the sun, relax and read a book.
We didn't do dinner at the hotel but breakfast was delicious

My family (mom, dad, and two "grown up" kids) stayed here our second night in CR. It was a pretty quick trip from the airport and the staff greeted us warmly. We stayed in two adjoining rooms and had beautiful views of the surrounding village. We took a morning tour of the coffee plantation, and our guide, Ulysses, was so knowledgable. The pool was nice and the restaurant (El Tigre Vestido) lived up to its reputation. We got a recommendation from a local tico to go into town to watch one of the CR World Cup games, which was an amazing experience! Waking in the "downtown" area was a little scary (no sidewalks, lots of very fast drivers) but we made it back!

We would definitely recommend Finca Rosa Blanca and would stay there again in an instant! It was probably the best accommodations we had our entire trip!

Dear Katie J: Wow, what a nice title for a review! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and memories about your stay with us. Indeed, Ulises is indeed an encyclopedia of coffee and his passion and love for our coffee, the organic agricultural commitment and the joys of drinking and understanding coffee are apparent to every guest who goes on the tour with him. Most people love the aesthetics of our forest reserve/coffee fields, but walking with him and learning about coffee cultivation, birds, the tricks for working in coffee and the coffee cupping ("catación") are really one of the highlights of staying with us.

To avoid a 3 hour drive early in the morning prior to our flight, we decided to find a hotel close to the airport for our last night and stumbled upon Finca Rosa Blanca on Trip Advisor. From arrival to departure the next day, we were treated like special guests.

We arrived early enough to do the coffee tour the first day and really enjoyed seeing the property, learning some history and about organic coffee growing and having a really nice hike through the plantation. We were caught in the afternoon rains and sat under a shelter for a while- really a beautiful spot (all that was missing was a cup of coffee to enjoy while we were sitting there!) The tour ended with a coffee tasting and a great cup of coffee.

Sadly, a rainy cold front came through and we couldn't sit outside and enjoy our pretty patio or the beautiful pool, but we did really enjoy the very personal service from everyone we encountered. I wish I had written names down, but Edgardo assisted from my initial emails regarding the reservation to our check in and made sure everything was perfect. The young lady that brought us our welcome drink also helped us at the coffee bar and then waited on us at breakfast the next morning was really charming and so accommodating as well.

We also had a really nice dinner (had the dining room to ourselves).

Our room, La Ventana, was very clean, fun and eclectic and we had a great night's sleep before our trip home the next day.

One night was really not enough time at this haven.

Room Tip: From what I could see, every room was really unique and the patios were all very private from each o...

Dear Susan E: What a splendid review of your stay with us. I know that rainy days can sometimes dampen (pardon the pun) the experience, but we are so ensconced in nature, gardens and views that many adore coming here in the wetter part of the year to enjoy the afternoon thunderstorms and to relax with a cup of our organic coffee or a bottle of South American fine wine. As you said, the real key to getting the most out of Costa Rica and our small hotel and coffee plantation is to stay with us for several days and see the real authentic Costa Rica, its highlands and the culinary wonders of this area.
