“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2014

We visited the Bruce again last Sunday for lunch (see my previous review)
I love this place and consider it my favourite restaurant in the UK!
There is a fabulous new menu and it was very difficult to decide.
I chose the lemon chicken Caesar salad to start followed by Calves liver, which were both absolutely delicious.
My husband enjoyed cod with puy lentils.
Service was very good, and chef Hugh always asks if the food is ok.
The beer and coffee is always very good.

Stayed here initially for two nights, but it was so nice we stayed another night !, hugh the chef's food is of a quality that exceeds its price and his breakfast' are just fab, alex makes a very welcome host, for my money i think its a hidden treasure, its not the savoy, becuse it doesn,t want to be, its good honest rustic yorkshire, we will be going again !

This is such a delightful pub and B&B . We came to stay 2 nights, the staff where very welcoming and nice and we where blown away by how good the food was , in such an unpretentious setting, with a great selection of wines , though we have to admit the house wine was lovely so we stuck to that. The surrounding are great for long walks, the room was quiet and restful and there is a small town nearby called Ripon, where we enjoyed a a few hours before returning to the bruce Arms for yet another fantastic meal. Would really recommend this place for a meal or for a romantic retreat . Fantastic food, great price, lovely staff and such a great overall feeling perfect for a relaxing cozy holiday. =)

Room Tip: We stayed in the Blue room , which we loved.

It may have been a cold snow filled time to travel, however the reception and staff provided us with the warmest of welcomes. I don't have a bad thing to stay about this wonderful place, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

The food was exceptional, and perfectly balanced with a list of lovely wines. The staff were friendly and went the extra mile, all the while maintaining and delivering a high standard of service.

I will certainly return. Thank you Hugh and Alex!!!!

Me and our lass have eaten in a couple of michelin starred restaurants in the last 6 months and I've got to say in terms of food quality, The Bruce arms is on par.

We went there early Saturday evening and were greeted by friendly staff who were not only pleasant but very knowledgeable regarding the food and drink on offer.

I had mussels in a white wine and loads of bread to mop up the delicious juices, our lass had chorizo, prawns and scallops, both starters were divide.

For mains we both chose venison with beetroot, the venison was cooked to perfection and the beetroot acted as the perfect foil to the rich meat.

Our lass had the creme brulee, which I was reliably informed was exceptional.

All in all, a really good meal.

Would we go back....... damb right!
