“Pleasant, but asleep in the winter”
Reviewed 8 December 2013 via mobile

Firstly, let me start by clarifying that my visit was a little different to most reviews for this hotel as it was in December. Sausset-les-Pins is a typical lovely French Mediterranean village, with restaurants, cafés and shops to meet every need... In the summer. This appears to be the same for the Hotel Paradou; it is pleasant, but would benefit from a bustling atmosphere to cover over some aspects, such as the outdated decor.

My room was small with a balcony and sea view. Like many other reviews, the balcony could easily be reached from the outside, and the door does not lock (apparently an intentional modification), but I was never given any cause for concern as I never felt anything but safe in this location. This being said, in light of this issue a room safe should be a must, but unfortunately it is not. The bathrooms are well appointed and modern, with the shower being of excellent quality. Generally, the rooms are of typical French arrangement, so don't expect big thick duvets or fluffy pillows, although they are clean and comfortable.

Whilst I did not eat in the restaurant, I am assured by my colleagues that it is very good, with a number of tasty fish dishes on the menu. Breakfast was a simple continental affair, with no hot option, although when I ordered it to my room it arrived without fuss less than 5 minutes later. It is this kind of service that makes Hotel Paradou an appealing choice, as the staff were always happy to help. I arrived with a non-French speaking colleague late at night, and was welcomed with a smile (not always the case in France!) and with great patience towards our varying language skills.

Overall, a pleasant place to stay in a nice location, but don't expect anything out of this world.

I'stayed 5 nights in the Hotel. It is well situated, facing the harbor and the sea. Over it is a beautiful castle. The swimming pool is large enough for the hotel. The sea is cold, then it is better to use the pool. The plage is not far from he hote. On your right about 5 minutes ( unmatched bathing) and on your left - 10 min. the watched bathing. Sausset -les-Pins is a nice small town. Everything is very close. The Gare is 7 minutes from the Hotel, so you can easily reach Marseiille or any other small towns on the Cote de Bleue. The Hotel is well serviced, the rooms are clean, every day they provide you with the bathing cap, soap, gel etc. Very tasty food in the restaraunt. So you need not go and have your dinner in the overcrowded town cafes. The service at the restaraunt is also very good. The promenade is just near the Hotel. You can enjoy the evening sea, walking several km on your right or on your left. As to me the place is good and the Hotel is very, very good. Besides the aides at the desk speak English, so there is no problem with the language. I recommend!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are well situated, either looking at the seaside, or the park.

I love the little village of Sausett-les-Pins and the Best Western is a great place to stay for a couple days if you're touring and want a slower pace. The hotel sits on a small hill overlooking the harbor and the sea - a picture perfect spot. Yes the pillows lack loft and the staff while eager and friendly speaks little English, so you have to be cagey about making sure you get the answer you want - trust, but verify. This is typical of about 50% of the folks we encountered outside of Paris; they are friendly and anxious to help and nod yes, but they often really don't have a clue as to what you just said - and no I'm not sorry I didn't take French in high school because after 50 years I would have forgotten. That rant aside, the hotel, one other quirk. Oddly there were two twin duvets on a king bed. Small points, our stay was wonderful. People watching is the best part of slow touring. Sitting having coffee in the village center (at le Bistrot, but go next door to the patisserie for something scrumptious and bring it back). And yes, from my perspective it must be true that lack of bread was one of the causes of the French Revolution - watching folks double park to go into the patisserie for a baguette should be a national pastime, 80 euro cents, which sure beats the store at home and is to die for. So, not so much about the hotel, but suffice to say it is reasonably priced and a pleasant location from which to explore. Cheers, Al

Room Tip: Obviously higher is better and ask for a sea view.

Went there on business for one night, expensive cab ride from the airport (60euros) next time I will just rent a car.
I had a sea view, small room but adequate. Free wifi and parking (always appreciated). Breakfast was good however the one staff member seemed to be both checking people out and restocking the food so we did have to request a few things.
No problem like the other review with lumpy beds or a bad nights sleep. Had a great recommendation for dinner.
Two bottles of free water in the room and yes an electric heater was put in there but its easier to control the temperature unlike whole room heating systems. Small pool outside, I woud have sat by it if it hadn't been winter!
Would stay there again

A small Best western hotel in a small village only 20 mins from Marseille airport.
The location of the hotel is in front of the touristic port while on the back there is again the sea, really nice !
Rooms small with old style furniture and heating/cooling system, it looks like an hotel built in the '70's and maybe it is but for one night it's ok.
Private parking, smiling and very polite frontdesk people that speak English (almost incredible in this area) and a very good small restaurant inside the hotel, an added value if come late evening, even if just few meters out of the hotel you can find plenty of brasserie, restaurant and cafe.
Be careful with the taxi cost at late evening, at 8.00PM they asked for 75€ for 20 mins trip but this is not hotel fault.
Breakfast is very good if you do not look for American/German style.
Price on average.

If, like me, you consider the priciple function of a hotel is to provide a secure and comfortable environment in which to sleep then look elsewhere. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, the pillows were cheap bouncy holofibre, and the thrum of the hotel's ventilation system destroyed any remaining chance I had to get some sleep. I tied in vain to turn it off but it wasn't the room's airconditioning making the noise.

The doors that opened onto the private balcony couldn't be locked. Not normally a problem but it would have been child's play for even the most inept thief to walk across the roof, nip over the balcony railings and make their way into the room, absconding with any valuables.

There was no hot water at about 6.30 in the evening although it was fine at 7.30 am.

On the plus side you get an lovely view across the Med and harbour from the terrace and restaurant. It is a truly lovely situation and outlook. Naturally that's what youy're paying for an d if you get a room like mine you'll be too tired to enjoy it. Look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms near the lifts and service ducts - worth having a listen for noise before you unpack...

Our room was occupied by workmen until 5 day of arrival and from 9 the following morning. Yet the room price was not reduced 110 € , very poor value. The rooms are very small, the pool was dirty, the bathroom badly designed. Terrible.
