La Borie des Combes - a little treasure not to be missed

Don’t miss an opportunity to enjoy the charm and warm hospitality of La Borie des Combes. As soon as you drive up to the front gate and enter the garden you know you are someplace special. The owners are gracious hosts, who sincerely care about making their guests feel welcome, and their experiences memorable.

Our party of six (two families including three little girls) fully enjoyed its stay. We booked both the Chamber Gold and La Masion for our stay, and were thoroughly impressed by the clean, well equipped and very comfortable accommodations. After six nights in Paris, the beautiful stone farmhouse was a spacious oasis of calm and quiet.

As a summer resident from London commented to us "The region offers visitors the best of Spanish weather, combined with French food and wine." He wasn't exaggerating. You can’t beat the simple pleasure of beginning the day sitting in a garden enjoying coffee, local strawberries, and fresh almond croissants from the bakery (which is not to be missed) before heading out to explore the local villages and the many family-friendly activities this beautiful region of France has to offer. At the end of each day we were hard pressed whether to head back out to enjoy the great restaurants (all nearby) or stay in and feast on the items we had picked up that day from the framers markets and local shops. A large wooden table and comfortable chairs situated in the garden makes a perfect place to sip wine and contemplate your decision.

La Borie is quite simply the perfect place for the perfect French vacation.

While in total agreement with the previous reviewer regarding La Borie's exceptional qualities, and its owners' hospitality and genuine warmth, I must go one step further and state that in the past 30 years of travel to Europe, staying in various chateau hotels in France, farmhouses/wineries in Italy, apartments/hotels in big cities, paradores in Spain, castles in Germany, and quaint cottages in the English Cotswolds, never have my wife and I enjoyed ourselves more than we did during the week we just spent in early May with Jeri and Paul at La Borie des Combes.

The Dordogne is pure magic, with more natural beauty and far less commercialism than Provence or Tuscany. Incredible, reasonably priced food and wine, hiking, canoeing, biking, castles to visit, quaint villages to photograph and sketch, and all of this within a 5 - 30 minute drive in any direction from La Borie.

Anyone planning a trip to Europe in the near future should seriously consider the opportunity to visit the Dordogne and spend a week (or longer) at La Borie. You will be rewarded with an experience you will never forget. We can't wait to return there.

As a long time traveler and trip planner for many friends and colleagues over the years, I would be happy to answer any question you have or assist you in planning your trip, as trip planning for me is the next best thing to being there.

We traveled to France several times before, but never enjoyed our experience as we did at La Borie des Combes. It is a wonderfully restored and beautifully decorated farmhouse that has an amazing history dating back to medieval times when the Earl of Sarlat owned it. Paul and Jeri are so much more to their guests than landlords. They are warm, welcoming, friendly (fun) and so very helpful; they set a comfortable atmosphere immediately. Sitting in the lovingly maintained garden, filled with flowers and a serene feeling of times gone by, with a wine in hand, was the perfect ending to each day of explorations throughout the magical Dordogne - only made better by retiring to La Maison for a dreamy night sleep.

Before concluding, we must add a note. While researching for our ‘perfect’ stay in the Dordogne and luckily happening upon La Borie des Combes, we read a review of this wonderful home that disturbs us. The comments were negative and based upon our experience totally unwarranted. It is a sorry reality of life that some people do not want to be satisfied. These types of individuals seem to seek faults where none exist and make a purposeful effort to discredit and taint others. In our opinion, this was the case with Paul and Jeri and we urge you to look past this type of negativity and drink in the positive. In other words, take the plunge and enjoy to the utmost, as we did.

Sadly we left our temporary home after two short weeks, cherishing the memories and counting the days until our return. In such a short period of time, we felt it was ‘home’. Now it calls us back – soon. Thank you both for being you and for going the extra mile, always, to see that we were comfortable and wanted for nothing. Au Revoir, for now.

We stayed in the Chambre Gold which was a bedroom with a sitting and dining area, along with a microwave and fridge. The bedroom had an ensuite bathroom, and the courtyard was open to us should we wish to sit and enjoy the sun. Located in a 13Century farmhouse it had masses of charm and our hosts Jeri and Paul Holland were friendly and most helpful. It was a super location for the many day trips we took, and the pleasure it gave us walking down the hill each morning for the fresh croissants at the local bakery whilst looking at the river meandering its way in the distance was immeasurable.
Situated between St Cyprien and Beynac, it was incredibly near to several attractions and easy driving distance to many many more.I would love to return if ever I visit the Dordogne again.

After a very busy week in Paris, looking in to many museums and such, it was such a relief and pleasure to relax in Paul and Jeri's very charming country stonehouse. We were immediately greeted by our hosts and made to feel completely at home. We had chosen to stay in the main house so that we would have a kitchen to cook in and lots of space to relax in. We were not disappointed in any way!! So many essentials were at our fingertips that made our shopping for other staples so much easier. That particular week there were other 'California' guests staying at LaBorie Des Combes and we shared many meals and memories together!! So wonderful!! The countryside is so exquisitely beautiful with so many possible excursions that we must go back to see it all!! No problem...can't wait until the next time!

My husband and father and I arrived at the old farmhouse after a bustling week in Paris and it was even more relaxing and beautiful than we expected from the photos on the website. The house is gorgeous inside and out, and our hosts have thought of everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We were delighted to explore the countryside (the oak and chestnut forests on the hills grew more golden every day) and just as delighted to come home and pour a glass of local wine.
We've been planning our next stay since we regretfully waved goodbye.

Didn't know what to expect from my first rental experience in France but it was lovely. The Dordogne region is magnificent......visually stunning, great food, full of history. As for this charming B&B, it was such a delight, we stayed on for a few more days. Paul and Jeri became friends almost immediately. Never intrusive, they made suggestions about what to eat/drink/see locally then joined us for walks with their friendly collie Hula. The area is worth investigating and La Borie des Combes is a delightful place to savor the experience.
