Ate here on Saturday night. staff very helpful and friendly.
Food was dire, served so quickly it was worrying!
As a pub to meet friends it was hopeless, the music just increased so much in volume and the selection was awful, that you couldn't even think, never mind converse.
We usually go to the Ladybrook but thought we'd have a change - back to the Ladybrook next week!

Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Beds really comfortable, room clean and quiet so slept well.
Breakfasts hearty and set you up for the day.
Would definitely recommend.

We were visiting my son and his family in Cheadle Hulme and picked Governors House to stay for the week. The staff were all extremely friendly and accommodating. We had dinner and drinks several nights in the pub and thought the food was very good and reasonably priced. The breakfast which was served every day was to order with quality ingredients made up fresh.

Although we could hear the music some nights from below it didn't bother us at all. The room was small by but cozy and had been recently updated and was nice and clean. The pub was busy every night and had a good mix of people. There are no big screens plastered on every wall (in fact none as I remember) so it's not the typical sports bar. The decor was actually very well done as well.

Lots of things within walking distance and plenty of parking. We enjoyed it greatly and highly recommend it.

We stayed at the governors at weekend as a base for activities in the area. The establishment is easily accessible with plenty of car parking.
The room was functional but a bit on the small side. Ideal if you only need to sleep there but if you need to work there in the evening then the table is only just big enough for the kettle and remote control for the TV.
The bathroom had quite possibly the most powerful shower I have used in years! Brilliant! Especially welcome after a day outside in the woods. The tiles in the bathroom are in need of re-grouting because large strips are missing.
Our room was also affected by the noise from the bar downstairs with the music being audible until the early hours.

All in all, if you want something cheap, functional and don't mind about the noise this is a good place to stay.

Lovely relaxing pub for drinks with friends but don't bother with the food. This is all microwave food and poor quality. We were served our food and asked for cutlery but this took over 5 minutes to arrive, by this time the food was cold. We then asked for ketchup but we were given the smallest pot of sauce so asked for a couple more. Once we had finished our meal 1 more sauce arrived. This slow service spoilt the already poor quality food.

Booked two nights at the Pub for a week-end visiting Quarry Bank Mill. Excellent stay, staff friendly and helpful, and ? the manager who had to travel back and forth to Rochdale, was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms, clean and warm, breakfast excellent and we ate in the pub both evenings and the food was very good. No complaints, recommend to anyone.
