Reviewed 31 May 2013

popped in with friends after a walk on the hills. we were made to feel very welcome and while the place was quite busy, the food was served relatively quickly, was of a very high home-made standard and was served up with a smile and time for a courteous chat. would definitely go back and do strongly recommend.

great hospitality - nothing was too much trouble when the six of us turned up for the West Yorkshire Classic - super friendly atmosphere - yeh its basic but its a bunkhouse so don't stay here if you don't want to socialise. we'll be back next year

An excellent hostel offering low cost accommodation. Two rooms of ten bunks one with a shower room. Shared facilities are good, make sure you use the furthest room as their is a lock on the door.
Bar is excellent as is breakfast.

I have never written a review before but I was so happy with out stay here this weekend I thought I should share our experience here.

Booked for 8 people to do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks - firstly it was no problem adding additional people to this booking and Sue, the owner, was very helpful via both phone and email.

When we arrived I was given a parking space round the back, but there was plenty of parking on the road; no hassle at all! It was about a 15-20minute drive to Horton-in-Ribblesdale where we started our walk.

The room for 10 people was large and airy, the bunk beds were sturdy and spacious. You can hire bedding but we brought sleeping bags and were still provided with clean sheets and pillows. Proper mattresses too. We were lucky as we had the room to ourselves despite not booking sole occupancy, but since there were a couple of empty beds these could easily have been taken by solo travellers.

We were also fortunately enough to have a en-suite (this too was very spacious) but there were three other bathrooms (consisting of showers and toilet) we were also able to use - very helpful when there are a lot of people trying to get up in the morning!

Downstairs there is a bar and cafe, but also a kitchen for communal use, which although being small, again was very clean and had everything we needed.

As we arrived after the bar/cafe had closed we went down the road (less than a minute) to the only pub in the village - excellent food (we ate here both nights) and friendly, helpful staff.

All the staff at Clapham Bunk were friendly and despite being very busy always had time for us. The building is also gorgeous and overall the cleanliness, warmth and space meant everyone was more than happy to stay there two nights. We stayed for breakfast on Sunday morning and again, we weren't disappointed.

Fantastic value for money!

It was the first time we had been in this place and we just called for a light bite en-route to other places, The owner was friendly, as was another lady who also served us. The home prepared food was great as a result of which we had a bit more than the really small bite which we had intended. I reckon this is a place where really good fun with the caving and walking fraternity is possible when they visit and stay awhile.

Called in several times, for coffee (very reasonably priced) and beer (ditto, and very well kept). Walker-friendly, unpretentious cafe and bar, with very friendly staff, and a log-burning stove that was very welcome on a cold November day. Definitely a worthwhile end to a walk in the beautiful surroundings of Clapham

I stayed in September. Last minute booking with late arrival - Owner was very helpful - staying for my late arrival, gave me somewhere nicely tucked away to park my motorbike and gave me lots of local info. Very friendly and accomodating. Fab historic thicked-walled ex-manor house in charming village with good lively pub nearby, not that you need it as the Clapham Bunk aka The Reading Room has it's own bar, open til early evening and then you can enjoy your own drinks in the same space after, or just sit and relax. Great location. Fab place to stay if doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.

I was lucky enough to have the room to myself but would normally sleep 10. Bedding supplied. My bed was v comfy. Bunks are solid wooden, not flimsly metal wobbly things like in some places. For a balanced view - some might say bedrooms are basic with some tired frniture but they are as good as any hostel but with the extra charm of the building, bar, cafe and location. Self-catering kitchen too so you can sort out your own dinner, breakfast if you wish.

Fab popular bar downstairs open to public til early evening. Later the shutters are down on the bar itself but the room is open to use by residents. Charming, quirky place. Great atmosphere.

I liked it so much I stayed a second night rather than dashing home. This time there was a group staying who were friends of the owner who introduced us and we had a fab evening.

Cafe looked fab for breakfast in the morning...but sadly I had to dash off so can't comment on the food but looked great.

I would definitely stay here again if in the area. Great value for money.
