This was a 7 night stay where the emphasis was on the local produce of Oristano Province. From Saturday to Saturday we were treated to degustation dinners comprising fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, rice, pasta, wine and liqueurs from this wonderfully fecund part of Sardinia. The staff at Is Benas were passionate about their craft which they have turned into a mission - to introduce all of their guests to the delights of Sardinian cuisine. The rooms are spacious and clean, the common areas of Is Benas lodge are simply decorated and furnished and the gardens are idyllic. The level of service from the caring Is Benas staff was exceptional - without exception.
Beyond Is Benas is an area of ancient culture, with evidence of civilisations going back over 3000 years. There are clean beaches, warm seas and outdoor pursuits aplenty. The locals are very welcoming, almost surprised to find a tourist in their back yard but pleased to see you. They are not, however, the most civic minded people and sadly, Sardinia has both a significant "litter" and "graffiti" problem; ugly blots in an otherwise excitingly naïve and wholesome environment. If only the Sardinians could find some civic pride, this would be the perfect vacation destination for "jaded adult travelers"More
