The property sits in an amazing location and is a beautiful property. However we were given a room right next to construction in progress of a high rise tower expansion in spite of other empty rooms being available. We had no hot water the next morning for a shower. The food choices for the three meals are limited and meal times are rigid with set times of an hour you have to have your meals within.

Room Tip: Stay away from cottages next to construction in progress

As part of our tour of Kyrgyzstan we carefully chose Raguda Central for a relaxing few days based on the facilities featured on the resorts website.
Sadly it all went to pot right from our arrival with our taxi being refused admission to the resort. Instead the security guard directed us to carry our bags several hundred yards to the reception with no offer of assistance.
On checking in we asked about where we can get a meal that evening and we told the only restaurant open throughout the whole complex only offered a fixed menu which had to be ordered in advance. This came as quite a blow because we had specifically chosen the resort because of the advertised European style restaurants, and bars.

The receptionist then told us will have to walk up to the restaurant and ask if we could be fed that evening and what the menu was. This we did only to find the building closed and locked! We walked around the building and found the staff entrance where a cleaner allowed us entry to speak to a cook to order our meal. A very unsatisfactory situation.

The next big disappointment was the quality of the food in this restaurant. It was awful, it was cold, the service was appalling, staff spent more time fiddling with their mobile phones than giving us any attention. A pot of unknown tea was plonked in front of us with no explanation. We were not offered the opportunity to order wine, beer or even a cup of coffee. Then a cold and very greasy meat and potato pie was plonked in front of us. There was a buffet table all laid out with salads and soups but no explanation was given or offer to help ourselves to any of it. If it was intended as starter course we were not given any time to sample it.
With the staff still ignoring us we departed assuming the meal would be charged to our room.
Not so, next morning at breakfast in the same restaurant one of the staff immediately came over (at least one of the staff was speaking to us now) and accused us of leaving without paying the night before. My niece being the only one of our party speaking the language then paid and we proceeded to have breakfast.
Breakfast turned into another great disappointment. No sign of any fruit juice, no sign of any fruit for that matter, despite many fruits been for sale on the roadside on our journey in. Just dry bread, cold fried eggs, cold meats and cheese along with a few weird pastries. Plus vats of evil smelling pasta. I did like the rice pudding which with jam added was quite tasty, but hardly a normal breakfast option.
Bins around the resort remained unemptied all the time we were there, hose pipes strewn across the path to our bungalow were a constant trip hazard. Building works left piles of sand in the middle of footpaths unlit at night. Reception desk unmanned in the evening just a note with phone number, but no phone on the counter!

Subsequent conversations with my niece revealed that we had been charged more for that awful meal in the restaurant than we had paid in top quality Bishkek restaurants which had included European wine. Following a complaint to the reception we did receive 10% refund on the meal the next morning, but the price was still extortionate for the quality of food served. The upshot of this was we then had to take taxis in and out of the local town each day just to find edible food. We quickly learned that taxis arranged by the resort staff charge double the fare of taxis we arranged ourselves and use no better vehicles.

On a positive note, yes there were some positive notes. The heated indoor swimming pool was very good even though the sauna area was closed, and the tiled surrounds extremely slippery when wet. The two-bedroom bungalow (number seven) was very well equipped and extremely comfortable. The only downside was that for some strange reason the refrigerator is replaced in the bedrooms. This meant that their switching on and off all night could be rather disturbing, and the microwave oven was placed on the floor making it very difficult to use.

To cap it all off when we came to check out we were told we must wait for 10 minutes whilst our room was checked. We then waited for at least 20 minutes before a young lady turned up to count the towels in our bungalow. This was so insulting, I have never in all my travels across all the continents had to wait to have the towels in my room counted before I could leave any hotel.

To sum up. This had intended to be a restful respite in the middle of our tour. However it turned out we had to take taxis every day to and from the local town just to find appetising food.

Do not book this resort without checking if the facilities you need will be open!

Raduga has its own beach and pier on the enormous Issyk Kul lake. The rooms are in cottages scattered about a lush garden cum apple orchard, and a profusion of rose bushes adds to the beauty of the place.

This place was a bit hard to rate...running from excellent to average. How you feel will depend on your priorities. First...the location is excellent. The beach is lovely and the mountain views are stunning. The grounds around the living areas are impeccably kept. Trees and flowers are everywhere. This is a beautiful place to relax, to take the kids, etc
.
Our "house" included a bathroom and a large room with bed, dining table, couch.and television..all very clean.Unfortunately, there was no internet access in the unit. Breakfast was included with the package but we opted out of having all meals at the resort since we wanted to try local places. Though we didn't have time to do a lot, we noticed there are boards around the complex that post activities and excursions. The unit is expensive by Kyrgyz standards but reasonable by Western standards.

Unfortunately, it's tough to find someone who speaks English (though we did meet some young people at the Crocs store who were very helpful). This can make it a bit tough if you are a mono-lingual American and have no talent for pantomime.

We tried food in one of the private restaurants and it was quite good but the included breakfast was barely average...instant coffee, fried eggs that were cold, food that was not replaced when it ran out, etc.

For us...the pluses outweighed the minuses but others may not feel the same.

The service is baaaaad. Food is awful. 80% of delegation was food poisoned. There is a drug store where a pharmacist probably knew what happened to me once I entered Never go there for such money. The only good thing is a territory which is green.
