We visited the Paulsens Hotell and Cafe for the Saturday night Karaoke. What a laugh we had. We were made to feel so welcome and invited to participate with the regulars. Our friend Spud took the centre stage a few time to great applause

The place is a little diamond. Such a pleasant surprise to get inside and find it laid out like a house from the early 1900's full of period artefact and photographs relating to the history of the building.

A great Wee place that is well worth a visit

Thank Norman S

Lovely old style café and hotel (we did not stay overnight, so I can't comment on the 10 hotel rooms), amazing interior. It appears to be in the danger of being closed shortly, if no new owners turn up. We had two dishes from the lunch menu, curried pickled herring with bread, and a larger chicken salad, both fine. The beer selection is better than average for a Norwegian small town. I definitely hope they'll find some way to continue in business.

Do you fancy a bit of nostalgia and old-fashioned "luxury"? Try Paulsens Hotel in Lyngdal, where time has stood almost still since 1894. 10 rooms, two with private bathrooms (!), Exceptionally friendly hosts (Bent and Jimmy), good food, individual breakfast service, and entertainment in the summer garden. Opened in 2011 after 40 years in hibernation. And real boiler coffee!

Paulsens is a good example of a place that knows its strengths and how to use them to attract customers. Got a garage full of grandma's heirlooms? Know how to make tasty traditional dishes? A venue that is puts it all together? Bingo.

If you are in Lyngdal, you are either lost or you already know about Paulsens, either way you have to visit. For extra points take an elderly relative or friend and every time you hear "I had one of these" somebody must drink. Don't worry the attached hotel looks perfectly charming too.

We got a plate with hams and cheeses on our table, and could then add home-baked bread, jam, omelett, vegetables, fruit, freshly cooked tea and coffee.
