Millewa Pioneer Park

I called into this pioneer park and was a surprise package, for just a gold coin, you get a full history of how people farmed the area over 100 years ago and also plenty of photos, plus old houses and machinery etc to check out, it would have been hard times.
Worth stopping to check it out.

Worth the trip to see how our Pioneer Families lived in the hard "Outback" of the early days. The kids loved the Train and school house. it is difficult to understand the isolation, of this, one time thriving community

We thought we'd go out for a nice drive to Meringur from Mildura and see the Millewa Pioneer Park for the day. We were pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful place the community has setup. Each of their displays have been setup very well highlighting which local has donated what item or building. They made the effort to restore each building as they got them and maintained them. We were talking to someone who was doing some painting in readiness for their Open Day. The best building was the setup for the school with the desks, the school books (many of these bought back memories of my own school days) and looking through the attendance books (should get these scanned in and put on a genealogical site such as Ancestry before they deteriorate so there is a permanent record of them). There was also a resource building that was full of so many documents for you to go through right up to the current years. You could leave a request to get copies of anything there to be sent to you. You get the impression that any news or information about the town was kept here so there were comprehensive records about Meringur - a wonderful effort and commitment from the town. There are plaques dotted throughout the property that are dedicated to all the early pioneers. They are having an Open day this weekend (1st Sunday of October of each year). You get the impression that the town has taken pride in this pioneer park and trying to keep it preserved. We thought it was better than the Old Mildura Homestead Park. It is a gold coin donation to visit but it was worth more than a gold coin. Well done Meringur - a fantastic job!!
