“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

We really enjoyed staying at Middleton Cottage recently and it lived up to our high expectations. Paula was very helpful before we arrived advising us on our trip to kangaroo Island and was an excellent source of local knowledge. We wished we had booked for longer as we only had two nights there and it really warranted three as the KI day was very long! We spent a day visiting Victor Harbour and Goolwa before moving on the Adelaide, which was an easy drive. The room we had was very beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable and it was a lovely touch to be greeted with a drink by Philippe on our arrival. It was nice to have the option of breakfast in our room or in the main house.

I don't write many reviews but I wanted to share our experience of staying at Middleton Cottage. Phillipe and Paula are the perfect hosts, they strike the right balance of helping you make the most of your time in the area without being too intrusive. We didn't have our own transport so we were extremely grateful to Phillipe for giving us lifts to both Victor Harbour and Goolwa, we thought it was very generous for Phillipe to give up his time like that.

The accommodation is very comfortable and as has already been mentioned a range of books, magazines and DVDs are available. We found having access to WIFI very handy also.

We had the continental breakfast, it was delicious.....the croissants are the best I have tasted.

Overall this B&B represents excellent value and we wouldn't hesitate booking another stay here in the future.

Room Tip: Public transport links are limited so make sure you have your own transport.

In this very pretty B&B, you will experience warm hosts in Phillippe and Paula, who are non-intrusive but friendly and interested in you, and give great local recommendations. We loved our room which was done with a Hamptons-style blue and white sea theme, and was as neat and clean as a pin. Lots of books and DVDs, comfortable bed. We were very relaxed here, and enjoyed our stay.

Breakfast was a choice of croissants, toast with jam, fresh fruit and yoghurt, proper coffee and orange juice, all fresh and wam delivered at a time of your choice, with a little sprig of flowers as a nice touch. The B&B is on the same central road as Middleton Beach Huts and the caravan park, and very convenient for Middleton Beach and Boomer Beach (our favourite).

We have only nice things to say about our considerate hosts, and can highly recommend Middleton Cottage. We don't understand other comments below about fresh towels daily etc -- this is Australia where water is precious, and washing towels every day is wasteful.

We obviously did something very wrong when we stayed at Middleton Cottage for 3 nights. The key was left on the outside table when we arrived so we let ourselves in. We happened to run into Phillipe on the first afternoon and for the remainder of our stay we saw no-one. We made our own bed, emptied the bins daily and pegged our towels out each night - because there were no clean towels provided.
When we viewed their on-line advertisement we were lead to believe that the cottage was close to the ocean - be aware that The Blue Room looks out onto the chemist car park - it is not conducive to a relaxed atmosphere.
Port Elliott and Goolwa were fabulous and are worth a visit,

Philippe T, Owner at Middleton Cottage, responded to this review, 31 December 2012
Dear Jill, thank you for your feedback, we are certainly sorry that you feel that way. After operating for over 5 years & meeting so many wonderful & appreciative guests, this review comes as a real shock.
We would just like to clarify a few points; we did phone to let you know that we would not be on site for your arrival & arranged with you, for the key to be left out.
We also delivered ‘complimentary’ drinks & cheese to you in person on your first night, so indeed, we did greet you.
You may remember our discussion at that time, we clarified that you had chosen and booked our ‘Room Only’ option, where breakfast is not included. Subsequently, you did not see us as our guests normally would when we deliver & serve breakfast. This absence of our presence may have been interpreted as neglect, when in fact it was the result of choosing a ‘Room Only’ (no breakfast) booking option.
We also offered to change your booking to include breakfast, whereby it would have been delivered to your room or served to you in the comfort of our guest dining room, but we did not hear back.
Regarding service, had we known that you particularly wanted your bed made every day, bin emptied every day & fresh towels every day, although not common practice in B & B’s, we most certainly would have provided you with this service.
Finally, yes the blue room does overlook a tiny 12 car carpark. It is also surrounded by magnificent mature trees full of abundant birdlife. The Blue Room courtyard was fenced intentionally in a way so that our guests could enjoy these beautiful trees & the sea view in the distance. We are sorry that you only saw the carpark & not the trees and the beautiful sea, as many of our guests have and enjoyed.
We would be happy to discuss this further, please feel free to give us a call.

Arriving at the tourist info centre at 430pm on a Saturday in the school holidays with nowhere booked for the night could have proved difficult, however the TI ladies played a blinder and found us this fantastic B & B in Middleton, about 8 KMs up the road. Met by Phillipe, the owner, we were shown to our well appointed room, with separate shower and toilet facilities and immediatley this was followed by Phillipe returning with Kir and a delightful cheeseboard for 2 to welcome us - bliss.
The large bed was extremely comfortable and the local 'pub' provided wholesome fayre and great company for the evening and only 100yards up the road. We would certainly stay there again, book early, we were lucky that he had a vacancy. To cap it all go for the continental breakfast in your room in the morning - you will be pleased you did - truly a lovely memory!

Bright, beautifully decorated rooms with thoughtful touches such as 4 types of tea, lots of magazines and DVDs. One of the rooms has a large spa bath. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit and croissants. A great mix of French Riviera style decoration complemented with Australian roses. Philippe is a warm and welcoming host.
The beach is less than a 5 minute stroll away.
