“A fantastic stay, a real chateau experience”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

We stayed for one night in August, we loved it. It is a real chateau, with real charm because it is not highly polished. We were a family of 5, had a "family room" (which was 2 adjoining rooms, one a four poster with a lovely modern bathroom) which was perfect. The kids enjoyed the pool. Loic and his wife were charming, engaging hosts, and it was great to have such a detailed tour of tour of the chateau (in English and French!). We chose to eat there as well, started with bubbly and nibbles in the courtyard with Loic, his wife and the other guests, before dinner in the formal dining room (lovely classical music played through Loic's valve amp). We all dined on separate tables (so not table d'hote in the traditional sense), we like socialising with other guests at dinner, but can see how it may not be as much fun for others if you want a quiet dinner without distraction from our kids! The meal was delicious (3 courses, duck main course, plus cheese I think, can't quite remember as we had cheese almost everywhere!) No choice of food, but we like this, you get to try new things. And we let them know in advance that my wife and daughter cannot eat cheese and they were happy to accommodate. A wonderful experience, good value for money, we would definitely go back.

Room Tip: I cannot remember what the room was called, but it was a "family room" which was actually...

Stayed for one night in August. The owner provides a very interesting tour of the chateau which is well worth doing. Our room was very old, but with a reasonably modern bathroom. We didn't have the best nights sleep, hence the 4 stars, as our bed was not terribly comfortable, but other than that we had a memorable and interesting experience which will stay with us forever. The Chateau is a little run down, but is in a vey lovely location, with wonderful grounds which you can explore. We sat outside and watched the sunset which was a lovely end to our day. Our children also loved meeting the two very friendly dogs!!!

This was my first chateau experience and I absolutely loved it. The accommodation and hosts were absolutely amazing. We had a very warm welcome, sipped champagne in the courtyard with the count and countess. How often does that happen. We had a silver service 4 course superb dinner listening to Debussy. A world away from the hustle and bustle of London life.

As already stated this isn't a Disneyland castle all glossy and fake but a genuine castle. Yes its a little tired around the edges but you do feel the sense of history and family traditions here.
Unfortunately we used a GPS and took the wrong reading and ended 100 k out of the way ,so do double check you have the right Ternay. As we arrived late our planned leisurely day was curtailed and we were rushed into dinner.
The dinner itself is more of a family standard than high cuisine but the opportunity to dine in such an ancient dining room surrounded by antiques makes it a wonderful occasion. The Compte and Comptess are excellent hosts and make the whole stay a memorable experience.
We really enjoyed the tour of the castle and Compte Loic makes an entertaining tour guide who demonstates his passions for his family and their history.

At first sight, this building looks derelict, but there are owners in residence and it is very very old inside with lots of original features such as original chapel from 15th century inside the building.

Needs loads and loads of work but very reasonable at 110 euros including breakfast.

The owner is charming as is his family, and very interested in sharing the history of the place back to 13th century.

Simple pool and nice grounds. Very nice stay.

Room Tip: Check bed big enough, we had four poster and are average, but our four poster, which was gorgeous, j...

There is really little praise that can be added that has not already been said in previous reviews other than to support that the chateau is real, the experience authentic, the building beautiful in showing it's fragility and age, the surroundings magnificent and peaceful and the story-telling first hand as Compte de Ternay's lineage is resident in the demeure since 1606.

There is no pretension here - simply delightful guests who's passion is there home and heritage.

It's a pleasure and an honour to be hosted by Loick and his wife Charlotte.

Do not hesitate to go.

Room Tip: It's a chateau ! Every nook and cranny shouts authenticity. Every room is unique and any room...

We stayed here during a riding holiday with Chateau et Cheval. Great hosts and a wonderful setting. We arrived on horseback via the forest behind, and then had a tour and glass of fizz followed by supper. The food was excellent as well.
