Great venue, superb views over the river or lovely gardens, while in the centre of town. Hosts Nick and Mary could not do more to make us comfortable, the perfect hosts. The rooms are immaculate, clean and comfortable with ensuite facilities and a really comfy bed. Access to a modern equipped kitchen to make a cup of tea, etc was an absolute bonus! Breakfast was really special around a long table laden with fresh fruit, breads, yoghurts etc and the hosts for company, really lovely. The spacious layout makes you feel as if you have the house to yourselves, very private, with your own key, more like a 'gite'. Only stayed 2 nights which was not enough, will stay longer next time! A 'must' if you are in the area! Short walk over the bridge to the town.

Room Tip: Our room overlooking the garden was very quiet and restful.

After a 9 hour drive from Calais we arrived around 5.30 pm to be welcomed by Nick who showed us around, we booked the front balcony room but we were shown another room to see if we liked that one more, we settled on the balcony room which was large with an ensuite, armchairs and a chaise long with views over the river and old bridge. We went to the guest kitchen/dining room and Nick made a cup of tea for us which we had with some yummy french cookies, we were given our key and left to settle in and have a nice hot shower. As we were exhausted we had a quick walk around the town and decided to get a takeaway and eat back at Pont vieux in the guest kitchen. We had a great nights sleep in the very comfortable bed and woke refreshed ready for breakfast which was in Nick and Marys very large kitchen, the long table was full with croissants , pain aux chocolate, yoghurts, breads and jams, brioche and freshly prepared fruit salad, we were offered boiled eggs too. We went for a Sunday morning walk and made use of the kitchen facilities for a lunchtime snack. In the afternoon we did some reading and used the wifi and explored the riverside garden despite the rain. We ate at the Hotel Emeraud in the evening which was only 5 minutes away over the bridge(.see separate review) We popped in Chez Eric's bar opposite for a quick drink and stayed 2 hours!, Eric from Mauritius kept us entertained with his tales as it was very quiet with everyone leaving town for the bank holiday. We enjoyed our 2 night stay in Confolens and would recommend you stay here , you won't be disappointed.

Another wonderful week at Pont Vieux. We are always made so welcome. This time we had two friends with us so we were a party of four. The proprietors, Nick and Mary Felton, could not do enough to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The use of the spotless and well equipped kitchen allowed us to cook for ourselves in the evening and dine by candlelight, whilst enjoying the view of the river. The elevated terrace overlooking the garden is a suntrap where one can chill and top up one's Vitamin D, even in early March. Due to Nick's eco approach to hot water heating, there is always plenty of hot water for showers with that special effervescence that solar hot water seems to have - well it certainly does it for me!To greet us on our arrival, Mary had made some giant Muffins, which were totally delicious. The rebuilt Intermarche supermarket has now reopened where there is a wonderful fish counter and a wide range of fine wines. Pineau de Charente is a speciality of the area and an addictive and delicious fortified wine. A new restaurant has recently opened in Confolens, the Taj Mahal, it is receiving excellent reviews. In addition the cinema has been refurbished. The medieval town is fascinating to explore and has a number of brocantes and reclamation yards and recently a couple of Salle de Vente have opened. There are two Immos in the main street with an extensive range of properties if you are house hunting and the Cafe la Gare and the Cafeteria Confolens have delicious and reasonably priced lunch menus. If you want to be spoilt then stay at Pont Vieux, it is wonderful!

Room Tip: The room with the balcony overlooking the river is spacious and luxurious.

We stayed for 1 night in August 2012 . After a 10 hour drive , to be greeted by Nick putting the kettle on was bliss!
This place is fantastic - more like a 5 star hotel than anything else. the rooms are large and beautifully decorated - ensuite with superb facilities .Luxury is a small word to describe our stay . The beds are even more comfortable than at home ....
There is a kitchen which is fully equiped , tea/coffee/juice available - a fridge to store food and drink - a terrace with table/chairs / sofas so you can relax , or eat alfresco in the evening . The breakfast is great - plenty of choice and endless supply ........
What really makes this place though , are Nick and Mary ! They are friendly , considerate and very welcoming - so are their cats - which were almost hijacked by my daughter .....
We met Nick and Mary later in our holiday ( we rented a nearby house) and even though we weren't staying with them , they were still prepared to help out if we got stuck or needed to know anything about the area . They really should market this place a '' better than the Hilton '' because having stayed in both places , this DEFINATELY IS !!!!!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are SUPERB !

We (two couples) stayed just one night in June 2012.
Weabsolutely loved it, and wished we had time to stay longer.
The location is perfect, just over the river to the centre of town, the rooms, well appointed and clean, and the kitchen area was perfect for making cofee etc,(and storing our drinks)
Nick & Mary were extremely friendly, and the breakfast was great.
The new deck area would be a good spot to relax and watch the river go by. (sadly too cold & wet while we were there)
We can highly recommend Pont Vieux, and would definately stay again.

We stayed in this B and B for just one night on our travels and were very warmly welcomed from Nick and Mary. Nothing was a problem and they put on a gorgeous breakfast for us and made us feel very at home. As we were travelling with our young daughter we are always mindful of this being more difficult at a B and B however this place has changed our mind.. Mary and Nick we just a delight and our daughter was very welcome. Thanks you guys, hopefully we will be back! x
